: GXP Availablity November or December
I fired off an email to Jim Hopson , Pontaic's Communications Manager asking:
Mr Jim Hopson,
Ever since the Pontiac G8 GXP was announced I and many others have been very eager to find out just when this car will be in dealers showroom floors and what price we can expect to pay. Can you offer any updated information for the car enthusiast out there?
His response is as follows:
Jeff,
Right now, we expect the GXP to be available very late this year, most likely in late November or early December. Pricing hasn't been finalized, but will likely be a few thousand dollars more than a comparable GT. Final pricing will likely be announced about two months prior to availability.
Regards,
Jim Hopson
Manager, Pontiac Communication
So everyone who has been waiting will probably have to wait til September for the final announcement.
MeanGreen 04-27-2008, 11:23 AM Just enough time for me to pick up a slightly used one come next spring if gas isn't $25.64 a gallon by then :D
Frees up some extra cash to try and make a 9 second pass in my car this year :eek2: (hopefully)
r1owner 04-27-2008, 11:32 AM A few thousand more than a GT? Wow, I'm liking what I'm reading here... sounds like no more than 37-38K for a GXP. I'm stoked! I'm also happy about the availability date (assuming they can stick to it).
I'm calling my dealer tomorrow to get on the list for a GXP. :)
appletonrc 04-27-2008, 12:47 PM Didn't pontiac introduce the Solstice in the winter? Why the hi-po cars in December? They have to work on their scheduling.
LS2GTO 04-27-2008, 11:48 PM :popcorn2: :biggrin2: That's great news to hear but I'm more interested to know what the exact MSRP will be.
TriShield 04-28-2008, 12:54 AM $34,995
Atlas 04-28-2008, 01:52 AM $34,995
based on??
Ryan M 04-28-2008, 03:20 AM Sounds good to me too. If G8 GT's can be picked up now while they are in high demand for 31-33k then 34-36k might be a good price for the GXP.

It'll be summer in OZ. :D

probably to allow for production to ramp up in enough time to be running full-tilt once spring rolls around. Better in the fall/winter than pushing the release to spring i suppose?
Orbit Orange 04-28-2008, 04:17 PM Just take that late November or early December with a grain of salt. I'd guess early 2009 on GM's past record with the GTO and G8's. Wasn't the G8 originally due out late 2007??? I just don't want to see people get their hopes up on that date, GM never delivers them on time. :(
Russo 04-28-2008, 05:23 PM i can wait..
stickjohnsonaah 04-28-2008, 05:46 PM So when do you think they will be taking orders? September as well?
Ryan M 04-28-2008, 11:02 PM So when do you think they will be taking orders? September as well?
Well if they are talking November/December then thats only 7-8 months away, I would say they should start taking orders soon, within the next month or two...
Maplehawk 04-29-2008, 12:00 AM My guess is orders in August/September time frame. This will let them roll the GXP into the fall product intros. The first batch will be preordered and then tagged. I suspect even less variability than the G8 and G8 GT. Color / Transmission / Options? > sunroof. My gutt fee is the rest will be standard equipment in GXPs.
Ryan M 04-29-2008, 12:15 AM All I know is that this is the last car I would pick up in December. Most likely the roads will be full of snow and salt here... I'd still wait for spring.

Agreed. If they would give me a guaranteed (with contingencies) trade-in value for my current car, it'd be on like Donkey Kong.
But seriously, the G8 did arrive well built as expected. Early spring 2009 sounds like a very reasonable guess.
DuBob 04-29-2008, 09:26 PM I can wait.....gives me time to pay on the G8 GT we already have. I am planning on getting a 2010 late in 2009. M6, color depends on what they offer. :)
SPARKYBOY5X8 05-04-2008, 10:40 PM Don't forget dealer mark-up of 4-6k the first 6 months, so 40k is a realistic price.
SPARKYBOY5X8 05-04-2008, 10:42 PM I know of two guys that have placed pre-orders in florida for their GXP's.
GeoffA 05-07-2008, 11:16 AM I just e-mailed Pontiac last night, they called me this morning and left me a voice mail and also e-mailed me this...
-this was my message-
I am interested in a 2009 G8 GXP. I am sure every one is asking about the price, so am I, How much? and if that can't be disclosed yet, When will pricing info on the GXP be released?Thankyou
-And here is there's,not sure this is anything too new though-
Dear Mr. Alessi, Thank you for contacting Pontiac and your interest in the 2009 G8 GXP! We appreciate the time you have taken to write us. We attempted to contact you by phone, but we were unable to reach you. Unfortunately, we do not have pricing information available for the 2009 G8 GXP. Pricing information should be available shortly before the vehicles are available at dealerships, which is scheduled for late 2008. For updates, please check periodically with your preferred Pontiac dealer, our website or contact us at the number listed below. If you are not familiar with the dealers in your area, an easy way to find one is by using the Locate Dealer web tool at http://www.pontiac.com. The heart of the G8 GXP is the 6.2L LS3 small-block V-8, currently rated at 402 horsepower (300 kW)* and 402 lb.-ft. of torque (546 Nm)* pending final SAE certification. This engine is the newest member of GM’s small-block V-8 family. It features a revised, larger-bore cylinder block, high-flow, L92-style cylinder heads; larger-diameter pistons; unique camshaft and camshaft timing; revised valvetrain with offset intake rocker arms; high-flow intake manifold; and high-flow fuel injectors. The LS3 engine has an aluminum cylinder block with cast-in-place iron cylinder liners. Larger bores help create a 376-cubic-inch displacement. The block casting also features revisions and machining in the bulkheads to enhance its strength and improve bay-to-bay breathing. New pistons were designed for high-rpm performance. New, high-flow cylinder heads aid engine breathing and are based on the large port and valve design found on the LS7 engine and other GM L76 engines. The larger-capacity, straighter intake port-design optimizes intake flow to the combustion chamber, an effect augmented by large valves, measuring 2.16 inches (55.0 mm) on the intake side and 1.59 inches (40.4 mm) on the exhaust side. Pending final testing, the G8 GXP is expected to deliver 0-to-60 mph performance of about 4.7 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 13.0 seconds at 108 mph. At Pontiac, we strive to provide exceptional customer service. If we can be of any further assistance please email us or call 1-800-762-2737, between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time, seven days a week. Thank you for contacting Pontiac! I thought they said late first quarter 2008 for the G8, and that's exactly when it came out...
G8>550i 05-07-2008, 03:24 PM Pricing people are talking about doesn't include gas guzzler tax....wouldn't that be another $2k?

It could vary between $1000, $1300, or $2100 depending on final mileage numbers. The SRT8s are getting hit with a $2100 tax at this point.
Chip
ToneyTone 05-10-2008, 08:50 PM I would expect to pay 42k with the gg tax.
BBBBGXP 05-10-2008, 11:42 PM Nah, I'll bet you'll be paying north of $40K, but not to the $42K range. Too far over what a stock Charger SRT8 fetches to keep it competitive, IMHO.;)
Russo 05-11-2008, 01:35 AM well ya know if you don't get a sunroof, then you avoid paying the GG tax... lol

simplegto 05-12-2008, 04:59 PM About the same price as a base Corvette. I will never need 4 doors so it is going to be a hard choice.
MLS27 05-12-2008, 10:30 PM 40+ for a pontiac is crazy...Vettes can be had for that price, and the resale value is MUCH better with vettes over time...go look at used vettes and try to find one under 30k. over 40k for a pontiac with a big engine is crazy....30 is fine, lotta power nice options, you get over 40 you need to think corvette, BMW, Mercedes
GigaHz 05-19-2008, 01:08 PM About the same price as a base Corvette. I will never need 4 doors so it is going to be a hard choice.
Plus they run 11's off the showroom floor.

Hmm, I'll have a real problem fitting two child seats in the backseat of my $40k Corvette now won't I? There is more to a vehicle than resale value. People who bank on resale value are those who typically don't keep a vehicle a long time. I plan on keeping it awhile, so I'm not to concerned about a $40K Pontiac and what's it's resale will be 5+ years down the road.
I still want to drive fast when they're not in the car ya know.
I guess I don't understand why certain vehicles can command a certain price level but other makes can't because of perceived "stigma" surrounding them.
GXPHopeful 05-28-2008, 03:04 AM Pricing people are talking about doesn't include gas guzzler tax....wouldn't that be another $2k?
Are you guys sure there's going to be a gg tax? Accoding to the GM site, the corvette engines do not require it. Are they not leaving the AFM on the LS3 for the GXP? The SRT8's have the tax because the 6.1 Hemi does not have the fuel saver mode like the 5.7.
r1owner 05-28-2008, 06:51 AM LS3 does not have AFM.
ChipC 05-28-2008, 09:56 PM And the Corvette is obviously lighter.
Mr. Sandog 05-28-2008, 10:24 PM And the Corvette is obviously lighter.
...and more aerodynamic, with better gearing...
Slizzo 05-29-2008, 01:51 PM Main reason for no GG tax if I remember is the low throttle 1-4 shift lock out on the manual tranny...
