Hey Scott! Anything new in your car that I should be worried about? :wink2:
g8ace 09-30-2009, 01:15 PM being halloween should i disguise my G8 into a 94 z28 with a 383 and a V-1 vortech blower pumping 600 hp to the wheels or should i leave it as my G8. i really would like to take the camaro out though. still havent dragged the damn beast yet.

Either one should work. Bring 'em both out if you can. Of course, we'd like to have another G8 in the pits with us, but nothing wrong with a healthy Camaro.

g8ace 09-30-2009, 04:15 PM ill get the camaro fixed up and i hope i can do at least one pass. hell i hope i can get through tech. that is the only reason i havent taken the camaro to the track.
familycaronROIDS! 09-30-2009, 06:04 PM One of my racing buddies is going with us to Fontana he lives about 2-3 blocks from there. He does not drive a G8 he drives a EVO 8. A different car for us to race for the heck of it. He has minor mods I believe the last time he took it out it ran a 13.3-13.5.
He does not go on OUR list since he doesn't drive a G8.
familycaronROIDS! 10-15-2009, 01:35 PM Ok guys its time to get some people on the list. BUMP!!
G8BLBYU 10-15-2009, 03:33 PM Hey Don, do you remember the name of the guy who brought the GXP to the cruise/lunch that you put together a while back? IIRC, he lives in Redlands which isn't too far from the track. Maybe we can get him to go.

You must really like driving out here alot lol.

G8BLBYU 10-29-2009, 12:57 PM Weather report for Saturday: Highs in the low 80's. Sunny.
I was checking in case the wind was expected to pick up. Hey Don, how's the wind been at Fontucky? I'm hoping the wind isn't going to be an issue.
Also, just a reminder to those who have not been there before, this is probably going to be a crowded event unlike last year this time. Last year, it was the day after Halloween and it seemed like many people didn't come (maybe too much partying on Halloween night). This year, it's on Halloween, so I'm guessing we'll have a big crowd. So, chances are, lots of time waiting between runs.
Bring your chair and your patience. :)
scotth3886 10-29-2009, 03:01 PM uh oh --- who's going to be drag racing in drag?
Well at least while were waiting we all have plenty of time to compare strut tower bushing gaps.
G8BLBYU 10-29-2009, 03:11 PM uh oh --- who's going to be drag racing in drag?
Scary thought. :eek2:
The Dark Knight 10-29-2009, 03:35 PM You can take me off the list :(
Will not be able to make it.
JoeSyko 10-29-2009, 03:36 PM Pretty windy here the last few days. Wind seems to be coming out of the North and it is cold.

Bummer...I wanted to see what a 6 cyl will run.

Kris, I think that with 8500 miles, you'll see a difference. These cars do run better after you put miles on them. Hope you can make it.
G8BLBYU 10-29-2009, 04:10 PM Pretty windy here the last few days. Wind seems to be coming out of the North and it is cold.
That's what I was afraid of. Hope it's not strong enough for them to cancel the drags.
kbuckert 10-29-2009, 04:39 PM Kris, I think that with 8500 miles, you'll see a difference. These cars do run better after you put miles on them. Hope you can make it.
Actually, I dont think I'm going to make it, I kinda forgot that I dont have a legal license at the current moment! I know that it would run better, and should run under 14...which means that my helmet that is in IL probably wont do much much good! Guess its time to upgrade to a true NHRA helmet and be done with it!
Besides, with the wait, I would want to make a stock run, then pull out all of the weight (spare tire stuff, mufflers, etc) and see how much difference...I would guess around 0.07-0.1sec. I'd like to know the K&N actual performance, so I would be thinking of stock intake vs K&N run as well...dont know if we would end up with that many runs through the day.
g8ace 10-29-2009, 05:25 PM sorry i wont be able to make it. i really would like to go. last time i was at the fontucky drags was 5 yrs ago.

Oh, well, the no legal license does pose a problem. :wink2:
Which reminds me, for those who have not been to the drags at Fontucky before, make sure to bring current proof of insurance. Seems pretty basic, but we've seen drivers (not driving G8's, mind you) that show up without proof of insurance and don't get through tech.
G8BLBYU 10-29-2009, 06:14 PM sorry i wont be able to make it. i really would like to go. last time i was at the fontucky drags was 5 yrs ago.
Bummer, but no problem. Maybe next time.
familycaronROIDS! 10-29-2009, 09:09 PM Hey Vince post up the cross streets of where you guys are meeting Saturday prior to the strip. I might not be available til tomorrow late night (Friday) I am expecting a long day at work. But of course it is on for Saturday woo hoo!!
JoeSyko 10-30-2009, 01:16 AM I may not be able to make it guys. Tami drove the car to work today and when she went to start it to go home, the check engine light came on. I've had this happen before and I tightened the gas cap and the next day it was fine. I hope this situation is the same but if it isn't, I'll need to find out what the problem is before I can have a day at the races.
The Dark Knight 10-30-2009, 09:37 AM Bummer...I wanted to see what a 6 cyl will run.Probably not impressive...even though I did beat a 350Z this morning...but I think he missed a gear so I won't count this as a win :slap:

Julian,
Usually, it's just been me, Don, and Scott meeting up at the Carl's before they open tech. The Carl's Jr. is the one on 4th street, north of the Ontario Mills. It's next to the Krispy Kreme. I think it's about a mile or so west of the 15 freeway.
Vince
scotth3886 10-30-2009, 11:54 AM Yes, carl's jr that time of the morning keeps my 'woofer' working all day long.

If it is, I think it takes like 30 or so ignition cycles before it goes back off.

HunterSwift 10-30-2009, 03:29 PM what time would you have to get there to be the first in line?
G8BLBYU 10-30-2009, 03:39 PM what time would you have to get there to be the first in line?
You would have to line up outside of the Speedway across Cherry on Randall or possible on Cherry heading south quite a bit before 6am, I think. They open the gates around 6:30 to get in to the area to line up to wait for tech to open. Tech starts at 7am. And supposedly, racing starts at 8. But, the last few times, the first race didn't go until 9.
People line up outside the Speedway early to get that first spot.
JoeSyko 10-30-2009, 03:49 PM Doesn't matter anyway....it's all about finding the fastest tech line. We've had people show up much later and get thru before us because our inspector was slow.

True. I think the trick is to go to the free left lanes when you drive up to tech. That seems to be what others did to get through tech before us.
nuklear 10-30-2009, 04:05 PM gonna be an early morning that's for sure...looking forward to seeing some of you guys tomorrow
kbuckert 10-30-2009, 04:34 PM I think last time I was up there I was in the 2nd from the right and got through quicker than some of the rest of the guys!
Good luck tomorrow, hope all goes well for all!!!
scotth3886 10-30-2009, 08:44 PM I don't think there's been a time yet when we all of haven't made it through tech before the racing started. Getting through fast is more important to get our special reserved parking.

G8BLBYU 10-30-2009, 09:33 PM Guys, there's a chance that I might not make it. My oldest daughter got the flu yesterday but her fever seems to have goten worse today, so I'm taking her to urgent care tonight just to make sure it's not H1N1.
I'll be bummed for sure, but imagine how bummed she is for missing costume day at school today, a friend's Halloween party tonight, and trick or treating tomorrow. I need to make sure that she's okay, though.
Sorry if I don't make it.
JoeSyko 10-30-2009, 11:10 PM Drove the car around a little tonite. Thing drove like it always does and after a few miles the CEL clicked off so we're good to go. Loaded the EZ-UP and 5 chairs. We'll plan on being at the Carl's Jr. sometime between 6 & 6:30am.
Vince, sorry to hear about your girl. Tell her that guy w/ the purple car wishes her well. Hope to see you there but if not I totally understand.

I'm still going to Carl's between 6 and 6:30. Since Vince might not be there I'll PM you my phone #
G8BLBYU 10-31-2009, 02:06 AM Thanks, guys. It looks like she has a slight case of pnumonia, which was why her fever wasn't going down. The doctor prescribed some meds and she should be ok.
But, I don't think I'll be there tomorrow. I want to make sure she's really okay this weekend and going 100 miles away isn't going to work.
Have fun and good racing to all of you who go!

5litrarag 10-31-2009, 04:17 PM Think I'm gonna cruise out there and see whats going on....
HunterSwift 10-31-2009, 07:32 PM my time: 13.4 at 106 mph with VMS tune and Roto Fab CAI, Exhaust cutouts shut.
G8BLBYU 10-31-2009, 07:49 PM Hey, great run, Hunter! That's an awesome time and MPH for the mods you have.
It was also great to see the local die-hards again. I apologize to those I may miss (not too good with names).
Don got a 13.7 on his first run. Not sure what his second run was.
Dan got a 13.3 on his only run. BTW, thanks for leaving your run sticker, Dan. I got a second run because of it.
Scott got his usual, steady, consistent runs of 13.6 and 13.6.
Julian texted me that he got a 13.2 after I left.
As for me, I think something changed with my car since the May drags. My two runs were 13.939@103.14 (60' was 2.209) and 13.850@102.73 (60' was 2.178). The reason I think something changed, when I look at my 14 timeslips in May, I can clearly see that my car was losing at every point of the run.
In May, my average 1/8 mile was 8.907@81.73. Today, my two runs averaged 9.066@80.36 at the 1/8 mile. By 1000', it got worse. In May, my average 1000' time was 11.491. Today, 11.693. And my average 1/4 mile was 13.660@103.79.
And since I my car normally runs nearly identical times to Scott, the fact that he ran his normal times today leads me to believe that something is not quite the same with my car now.
The only thing I can point to was on 8/22, I had my car's oil changed. I think they did the brake position sensor TSB then, but I also think that they may have flashed my TCM. Ever since I got it back, it didn't seem to shift the same as it did before. I couldn't really put my finger on it, but it just seemed a bit "off" from before I took it in. Shifts didn't seem as hard/crisp as before, but I could still chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift, so I thought that I was imagining that. I wish I could tell easily if the TCM program in the car now is different from the VMS program I uploaded earlier this year.
In any case, it was good seeing everyone again and meeting the new folks. Again, sorry that I didn't mention you by name.
I guess I'll need to ask Vector for the cable so that I can re-flash the TCM. Maybe get updated ECM and TCM programs since Hunter's programs seem to be pretty good. :wink2:

scotth3886 11-01-2009, 09:14 AM It was great seeing everyone yesterday.
Too bad the track was so very crowded plus a couple of cars or more left oil all the way down the track so we lost at least another hour to clean ups.
DA was 1800-2000'. We never have good air there.
Since I really haven't driven mine since the last time we were out there, I still had most of the fill-up from when I left the track still in the car. I put a little 100 octane to freshen it up a bit. However I pretty much ran the same as I always do --- a 13.601@103.92 with a 2.103 60' and 13.620 @ 103.99 with a 2.110 60'. My 60' is fairly consistent which helps too. I was carrying just short of a full tank so I had an extra 120-130 lb in the car that didn't have to be. It would probably run pretty well if I ran on an 1/8th tank and had someone a 100 lb lighter than me driving.
We had all available colors there except for LR and SBM. We didn't all have the same run groups so we never had everyone in the pits at the same time

nuklear 11-01-2009, 12:18 PM As everyone else has said, it was great seeing you guys yesterday and meeting some of you for the first time! I had a great time and this was my first time at the track with my car. Got in 3 runs, best time was 14.104@101.7 with a 2.19 60'....this was with a bit of wheelspin. I managed a 2.16 60' on my second run leaving off idle but my E.T. was a tad higher for some reason. Btw my car is bone stock, had about 39 psi in the rears which probably didn't help. Most important thing was it was FUN :driving:
Al N Eds La Verne CA 11-01-2009, 12:19 PM When I left the DA was 3250 and talkin to some people that said they were runing anywere from 3 to 5 tenths slower.
g8ace 11-01-2009, 01:47 PM DAMN you guys are slow. lol jk. i wish i could have gone guys. ill go next time though.
Al N Eds La Verne CA 11-01-2009, 01:54 PM Hey guy's it was great meeting all of you, hopefully I will get to hang out again. I want to ask you a question, any reply would be great. I am thinking of doing a plaster cast of a box for our cars. The information I would need to get is: 1)where you would want the box, 2)how many woofers, 3)how big of a woofer, and 4)how many of you are interested. The plaster and gel coat is costly and would want to make sure it is worth it, the more people I can get the better. There would be a special price for all of you that are on this thread. Thanks again for making us feel so comfortable in you group!
Al N Eds La Verne CA 11-01-2009, 01:59 PM With the number of woofers keep in mind weight we would be adding.

I'd guess that since we don't have a spare, that space would be a good idea for a sub box. I think two larger woofers would probably be good enough for that space. Just my $0.02.
HunterSwift 11-01-2009, 07:29 PM ok to get it back on topic...
Here are my two In-Car videos, I ziptied my Flip UltraHD camera to the head rest.
This first video is of my first run, only 6 cars had even ran before me, 2 cars ahead of me a new camaro ss fish-tailed at the begining. I ended up doing the same thing. Interesting if you look at the tracks of the car ahead of me (watch on full screen) you can see i did it at the same spot. Ended up getting a 14.7.

hey im sorry i didnt get to go guys seems like fun, but for the stereo... i think 2 10" woofers would be perfect. i would love for it to be in the spare tire and i would love to get on the list for one of them. check this thread out it might help to visualize where i would like it. hopefully you agree, if so im willing to talk price. also a price to wire it all up for me. http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14179

Sorry Hunter they video I took of your race did not come out. My son took the good ones and I took 2 that did not come out:(.
Hunter I did find a video of your 13.4 run though on youtube the actual 1/4 did not come out. By the way I know it looks ugly with the other car winning but that car would have beat any G8 there that day.

Al N Eds La Verne CA 11-03-2009, 03:10 PM Spare tire box has started we can fit up to 4 12's if some one wants that much bass or that much weight. so my box will be done tomarrow so if you are interested I will get the casting plaster and start on the mold. this box has a ton of airspace so any woofer will fit.
