: Who's waiting on a Volant CAI?
Ordered mine three weeks ago and after I called the Vendor which I ordered it through, found that they're on backorder and won't ship for another week. They didn't know of the backorder 3 weeks ago? They didn't know of the backorder a week ago when I followed up on the status? Nope, they send back a form letter "reiterating" the original ship dates of 9/15-9/29. They didn't know about the backorder when I called today? "Oh there just making up a new batch" Whatever...batch this.
I hate how some businesses operate. Both vendors and suppliers in this case.
rant over
Imalabil 09-29-2009, 07:22 PM Same here. Mine was supposed to ship September 14th and now I'm being told October 1st thru the 9th!

MDGeeTee 10-09-2009, 02:20 PM Ordered mine on 8/25, credit card was charged on 8/26, and here it is 10/9 and I'm still waiting on my Volant. The web site said it would ship in about a week when I ordered it.
Guess it's better to take your customer's money and apologize later.
GTPprix 10-09-2009, 02:30 PM People are still buying these even after all the horrible dyno results?
1of1828 10-09-2009, 03:08 PM Do yourself a favor and get the SLP Blackwing unit. It looks and sounds awesome. Feels much stronger than the stock box but I cannot prove that. Whether or not it delivers the absolute most power for your money is debatable but the look of this unit just says it all. I love it's clean look which keeps a huge air filter from being the focal point when you open your hood. I hate that! Good luck with whatever you buy!

yup...
LOVE mine...
taking the cold air from down below...
Dry filter, no oil to jack up the MAF...
Ok I'll give up the 2 hp.
That's HORRIBLE.
GTPprix 10-09-2009, 03:32 PM Give up 2HP? There are dyno tests of these things not making half of what other intakes make and on more powerful cars COSTING power. Probably why you rarely hear of anyone around here buying one..
Virus 10-09-2009, 08:29 PM There are actually quite a few people on this board that have the Volant. I myself haven't seen many dyno results on here with the Volant. Links?
616 of 933 10-09-2009, 08:34 PM the volant is a ram air set up so dyno numbers would be down

Yes, and DashHawk's as well.

Damm Dude cancel your order and get a Vararam or Rotofab.

Wow really?
I seen quite a few ppl here with them and no complaints...
I'll have a dyno for you in Nov. from the Dyno Day.

OR contact MarylandSpeed...
Virus 10-10-2009, 06:30 AM Ordered my Roto-Fab from Maryland Speed and they had Roto-Fab drop ship me the intake in 3 days. Ordered late Tuesday, went out Wednesday and I installed it Friday. Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread. The Volant is a nice intake and it was a tough decision between the two. The Volant looks much nicer. The Roto-Fab seems to have good numbers backing up their product and is used by a lot of the top tuning shops. That was the deciding factor for me.

lol its one of the best intakes out! and IMO seeing the vendors having them on back-order kinda shows that its a hot item and popular:slap:.....had a roto-fab like a week didnt like it(i hate oil filtered filters anyway bad exp. with my GTO ) went to a volant i wouldnt put any other intake on the car there selling right now...volant has great performance and a nice oem type look to it...and with a tune you dont lose HP
BigRob 10-10-2009, 07:23 AM correct, i totally love my volant. when running with other g8s at qualcomm, we have a different array of tunes and intakes, and we are all within a tenth of one another very consistently. in other words, they dont do much!
MDGeeTee 10-10-2009, 10:08 AM I don't want to deal with an oiled filter or any potential MAF problems. If I leave 2 HP on the table, then so be it.
ChiefP 10-10-2009, 10:09 AM nice one for sale on the parts board :)
MarylandSpeed 10-10-2009, 01:49 PM The Volant works fine...I have it on my own car. There was one dyno test a while back..and several people questioned the results. Seems like with this intake, you really have to unplug the battery and let the computer relearn the intake like some people do with the Vararam. Either way..dynoing intakes against one another is like putting Usain Bolt in Nike's, Reeboks, and Addida's, and seeing which one he runs the fastest in. Dyno tests of intakes are always kinda screwy because your not moving down the road, and things like hood open/hood closed come into play. Also..best realistic case..and intake is what 10 rwhp. On a 300 HP car that is 3%. I don't think it is unacceptable to say that most dyno's will have around a 3" margin of error between two runs.
Imalabil 10-10-2009, 01:56 PM I've had K & N drop-in replacements in all my cars for years but wanted to try the Volant with a dry filter. The filter is made by Davidson, who is in the business of making filters for a huge variety of industrial applications. This gives me some confidence in their filter engineering abilities. Also, I tend to like the airbox concept; you know the path of intake air is controlled. Maryland Speed sells a variety of intakes, including Volant. I wonder what their thoughts are on this issue?
BTW, I'm still looking for a bandsaw to do the front grille air intake mod...

Anyone want to buy an Impala?
Imalabil 10-10-2009, 01:58 PM guess I didn't type fast enough:)

exactly...i had a oiled filter on my 05 GTO and i had big problems cause if it with the MAF ..and it wasnt my fault from over oiling it cause i never got the chance too.
MDGeeTee 10-13-2009, 12:15 PM Still waiting on my Volant CAI. A UPS guy came out and made me sign some slip affirming that I haven't received the item yet. I'm assuming that UPS and the manufacturer are in some kind of disagreement over who lost it.
I don't see their name on the Vendor list so I'll go ahead and call them out, but Auto Anything has been absolutely no help. You'd think that if a customer called you about a part they never got (after waiting over a month), maybe you'd be a little more pro-active in trying to find the item yourself and keep the customer up to date. Not even a "Hey we f'ed up, here's a store credit" or anything like that.
Well looks like its supposed to be here thrusday 10/15. So lets see over 5 weeks to receive a part. What a joke.
4 wheels from Tire Rack = 2.5 days
4 tires from Discount Tire = 3 days
Some companies have their ship together.

I got my Corsa cat back from Maryland Speed in LESS then 24 hours...
BW G8GT 10-13-2009, 04:09 PM Don't want to start a debate on which intake is the best. They all have pros and cons.
When I was looking at purchasing an intake I read allot of posts on this forum and *********** about intakes available for G8, and it seemed the Vararam received the most recognition.
I ended up getting the Vararam several months ago and it's still sitting in the back of my closet.
I really liked look of the Volant, the dry filter and not having to tilt the radiator, but it seems like the majority of opinions regarding this intake were negative.

Odd I see more good then bad...
phpd7102 10-14-2009, 03:17 PM Volant works great and after talking to the tuner at one of the leading speed shops in the Chicago land area I went ahead and got one. I guess on any given day on the dyno one of the top 3 or 4 intakes could dyno out the best because they are all that close.
I see a bunch of guys hyping the Vararam but havent there been threads by people Hydro locking their engines using one? I know some C5 owners also had that problem and I had an oiled K&N on my C5 which screwed me up a bit, thats why I chose Volant.
So far I couldn't be happier.

Wow!!! I was wondering where you got your. I got my Volant from the same vendor the first week of august. I got it within 5 days. Although, the guy did tell me that he's running low on these CAIs and he has to get more. I guess I lucked out.
MarylandSpeed 10-16-2009, 01:51 PM We have these in stock, ready to ship, and on sale with no wait!

BigRob 10-16-2009, 01:59 PM gotta love MS!
Ben2009GT 10-17-2009, 10:15 AM I bought it for one no oil filter, also like the fact it looks stock. I have had no problem with mine and best of all it doesn't suck water :cursin: into it like the others I have read about. 100K miles before it needs changing. It gets better if I want that sound, I can remove the top for max air flow. I bought mine from MarylandSpeed an it was here in two days.
Imalabil 10-17-2009, 12:33 PM Got my Volant Thursday and installed today. Pretty straightforward install thanks to hints provided on the forum. Have noticed a bit of knocking with the Cortex 87 tune, however. Maybe it will learn itself out, but if not I'll try the 91 octane tune using 93 octane gas.
Also installed my console lid from Crazy Paul...LOVIN' IT!
