Hi guys and gals,
I'm new here and this is 1st post. I bought my GT on 8-20-09. came with only one key. The owners manual fell apart in my hands. The glue on the
spine was gone-melted away. after getting home I could tell all the plastic had sun damage on the front grill pieces. Window sticker was yellow. no
Bluetooth but has bthe phone buutons on steering wheel. I could go on and on but I'm on my way back to dealer now who is going to fix all this....ha we'll see. :bs:

I've trying to figure out when this vehicle was built because I know it had silver sticker on the door. Another dealer said 11/08 because he could read my VIN and thats what he says. Last Fri. I was at the dealer and I did get one new key and the have have the other new one for me now and a new manual. I asked about bluetooth, which I do have promised, on my Due Bill. They aren't sure yet because GM says no way can I get factory now. Anyway on the date of manufacture the sevice dept shows that my warranty began on 8-08-09. I purchased on 8-20-09. He went to check on that and tells me I better check with sales because records somewhere showed warranty began in 09-08. wt%-over?? The new wrinkle in this mystery is after last fridays trip to the dealership I have found the missing silver sticker on the door post saying manufacture date of 05-08. The VIN says 09.
Funny thing also the yellow window stickersays sold and shipped to GM in Detroit. I heard more than one person say at the dealership that this was a GM showcar? What does that mean to me? That I Have the oldest 09 around that sat in the hot sun somewhere for a very long time? I've learned a little bit about the car by poking around this gr88t website but I am totaly confused. Is this really an 08 with a new VIN showing 09. And I know the silver sticker wasn't there before last Friday or I wouldn't have been asking so many questions? Oh by the way I hadn't looked at new cars for awhile and I was shocked about the no spare tire. I have since learned. I at least see a minus spare tire and add inflator kit. My sticker didn't say anything.
Any help from you veterans out there would be greatly appreciated and also suggestions. Plus what do you think I should demand on the Bluetooth if it has to be after-market?:pir_flag:
My back is tired.

Welcome to the G8 world! I have a 2009 SRM GT that was built 6-08, and it too does not have bluetooth. BT did not arrive until the 2009.5 cars showed up...it was a late model year addition. Your car should have come with 3 keys. One "switchblade" fob, one fixed blade fob and a glove compartment key. The fobs do fit the glove compartment. Sounds to me like the dealer is bull****ting you about being the first owner of that G8. The warranty should have started the day you picked it up, not last year.

How many miles were on the car when you got it?

BTW, if it was a trade show car, it could explain the missing keys and weird warranty start date issues. It would also explain if your car had a "normal" new car mileage, no more than a couple hundred or so. Either way, I would bitch at the dealer to make your the right keys for your car. If they claim it was new, they owe you two more keys. They also need to straighten out you warranty. You get a FULL warranty if they sold the car as new, even if you have to make them pay for extending it for you. You want your full 5 years on the drivetrain for sure. Its great that it can last to 100,000 miles, but most people will see it expire at the 5 year mark with less than 100K. In fact, they say the average person drives 15,000 miles a year...that means you will only have 45K on the car when the drivetrain warranty expires. They should honor an advertised 100,000 mile warranty to the 100K, not attach a lousy five years to it.

You are probably screwed on the bluetooth. Lots of people thought they got because some newer cars have it and older 2009's don't...and the saleguys can play games in that situation. They can just say "i goofed". Unless its on the sales contract or you have the greatest dealer on earth, you won't have factory BT anytime soon...unless you are willing to pay about $500 for it. You can purchase minutes from onstar though and have hands free calling using their system to make calls. They should have set that up for you upon delivery and gave you your cars phone number.

Yeah, this one is tripping the BS-meter a bit. Sounds pretty shady that the warranty started almost a year before you bought it. How many miles were on the odometer when you took delivery?

Also, if they promised you BT on your due bill, they should honor that. Tough cookies if they didn't know enough about the car they were selling to figure out that it didn't come with BT. In this case, they'd have to go aftermarket, which shouldn't be too difficult. Either they pay for one to be installed or they pay you to have one installed.

Good luck!

The phone buttons on the wheel work for Onstar, that's why they are there.

I believe all 2009.5 models have a manufacturing date of November 2008.

:judge: Thanks guys for giving me some feedback and welcoming me to the group. I first hit the Big Dog over service and parts yesterday afternoon. I now have two new flip keys and one straight key. The have a new cylinder on order for the glove box. I have a brand new owners manual and the four new grilles for the front are in but they didn't have enough time to install. Everybody seems afraid of this guy! I was headed straight to his office and rounded the corner and almost ran him over. His Hi and big smile and handshake quickly took a turn for the worse when I said what's up with the Bluetooth?? He showed me a memo from GM stating that noway or nohow can or will a factory Bluetooth can be put on the earlier 09's. Then he said I'm havin' a hellava time finding an aftermarket one or someone to come out and install it .:bs:I said then I'll research it and I'll get er done for probably less than I'm alotted $$ for it. He said that would be gr888t and he wouldn't have to worry about that but I better check with sales Mgr. This guy has done everything i've asked for so far.
Now time for my meeting with sales Mgr. which I like, and I think has been
up-front with me so far. OK the car had 47 miles on it when I purchased it on 8-20-09. He told me that he researched it and found out GM had this car early on for photo shoots and car shows like you guys thought. He was suppose to meet with a GM Rep for So. Cal. earlier this week but GM blew him off. He admits that he was oblivious to the fact that this car was a GM show car first or he would have dealt with the deal totaly differently. Now what would make me happy he says with GM already showing in warranty for at least a year if not longer. I told him first off I'm getting full warranty or the car is coming back. Secondly if I knew I was buying a car that was almost a year and a half old, trailered around by GM and then sitting in their hotassed yard in San Bernardino for God knows how long I probabably wouldn't have purchased it. He says why it's still a new car? Yes but how about the length of time it sat pretty all over the place and then baked. no juices flowing to keep all the seals and such lubricated. He sees my point and knows I'm right and has been trying to find out the correct info for me once I brought it to his attention. He even says I'll never let this happen again cuz You don't know what a headache this is for me. If I didn't like the guy I would've bee way up GM's tree by now.
Anyway he told me to go ahead and check out the Bluetooth issue and let him know so we can get er done. In the meantime He is going to try and work something out with GM on the warranty deal. I really believe it's GM that is being the hard a%%es over the pontiac line and dealers.

Anybody out there know of a good, discreat Bluetooth system out their that can use my speakers, can hear and be heard well? I saw in the first reply a Parrot system of some type? Another dealer said he liked the one made by a company called Sig or Cig?? Anyone hear of them? I'll look at any suggestions you guys have on the Bluetooth or anything else for that matter. I really would hate to take this car back cuz I did get a helluva deal on it with the premium and sport package, throwing in the Bluetooth sticker was $33,210. minus the incentives either $3,000 or $3,500 and then another $1,700. Not too bad I don't think. Oh yeah I almost forgot to tell the guy who replied about the phone buttons on the steering wheel that I found out on the second day that they were also for On Star. The lady almost yelled at me for using those instead of the mirror. wtfover, why the redundancy?
By the way if there are any just real die=hard Pontiac guys out there and if you weren't able to get the whole book " 2009 PONTIAC " DESIGNED FOR ACTION, I've got a couple extra. It's got the whole lineup, pictures specs, colors designs etc. Just let me know. You never know they might be worth something someday.
Thanks for your input guys and anymore would be greatly appreciated.

One idea might be to have your dealer contact SellersAutoSport, which is a dealer from Detroit, to see if you can get the factory Bluetooth retrofit. Currently it is sold out, but who knows maybe they will help out another dealer. Another option would be to make your dealer file a warranty claim on your existing Onstar VCIM and make sure it will be replaced with the updated part#20783877. If you get them to do that then make sure they also order the antenna (15938939).

The two manufacturers that come to mind are Parrott and Motorola for aftermarket BT car kits. I would find a good installer that has the know-how to integrate the kit with the car stereo, like my installer did. I probably should have gone with the next model up of Parrott to get a few more features. I used to have a Motoral IHF1000 in my other car and that was a decent kit as well.

In either case, regardless of what kit you go with, make sure to have them wire an on/off toggle for it so that you can turn the unit on/off when needed. At least with my cell phone, sometimes the pairing doesn't work perfectly and it's good to be able to reset the kit without having to stop the car and turn the car off/on.

Hi Greg 8, Man my dealership is clueless. they are a fairly large size Cad, Buick, Gmc store. their parts abd service Dept. is huge and busy. Is this retrofit kit common knowledge to most? If so I don't understand the bulletin that they showed me from GM that it can't and wont be done. Is it a pretty simple deal for the dealership to install and do you know what it costs? I really would prefer this than aftermarket whatever. I don't undersyand the onstar claim. does the new part have dual functionality between the mirror just Onstar and the steering wheel just BT? They already have a back=up battery on order for the onstar system as they show it as missing. Thanks

The retrofit is well known among board members, but not known by dealerships, except for Sellers. According to GM it can't be done, but if you check out many of the great posts from GTPprix you will find that can much can be done , not just with this but with many other things.
If the dealer files a warranty claim it should not cost you or them any $$. It all depends on how much your dealship wants to please you and if they are willing to bend the rules a bit. It is a long shot, but worth pushing for. Given the fact of your situation you might actually be able get it done.
If you were to get the updated VCIM, it would act as if it were a 2009.5 (completely plug and play). Yes, the button would give you dual functionality with Onstar and BT.
Just to verify from your first post, the car is a 2009, correct?

There is a third option for BT. You could track down the right VCIM from a junkyard and send it to GTPprix to have it reprogrammed for your VIN. The junkyard route is tough as every person with a newer GM vehicle without BT are hunting these down.

Again, some of my ideas may be a longshot, but it is worth asking. The holy grail is to have a completely factory BT solution, in my opinion.

Thanks greg8! This is good stuff.Yes it is an 09 GT. The newly discovered silver tag that wasn't there before and suddenly appeared after the dealer visit 2 weeks ago on the door post says it was built 05/08. Without sounding stupid ha lol, what exactly does VCIM stand for? Would they also need to order a new antenna with the part # you mentioned earlier? Thanks greg8. God I'm loving this site. Actually a old salesman from another dealership turned me onto this site. Never met but just talked on the phone a few times. anyway I'll present this stuff to my place and see if this will fly or BS will, out
just ignorance. We shall see but the ol' Lardog, I meen EllTee will not loose without a fight to whereever I might need to go. This actually becoming fun for me now. I've already got them blown away with just the little I have learned from you guys just reading posts for a little while. Thanksagain greg8 and all who have replied

Being once a SOCAL boy, last residing in HB, I kinda feel for anyone still stuck down there! In any case, my SRM G8 GT was built 3/08 and I took delivery on 7 July 08. I've had my fair share of "problems" with my G8, as documented here on the forum, but still consider it the "BEST" GM car I have ever owned, its my 9th GM product. If your car was sold to you as new, your warranty should have a start date of when you took delivery, regardless of what BS they come up with. Last resort would be the state Attourney Generals office for consumer affairs, but that shouldn't be necessary once GM wakes up! If you want more info on your G8, with a personal touch, I suggest you check out the regional threads for the SW Region. Getting in touch with some of your fellow G8 owners via local get togethers would be even more informative. Here in the PNW we have a G8 owners club with GTGs throughout the season (March - November). A lot of good info is passed and lots of good car fun! Good luck!:wink2::pir_flag:
