: A6 sucks power?

A coworker had a C6 A6 for several months. Then he dynoed it and only got 313 at the wheels. Traded it on a C6 M6. Are we to expect similar large losses with the G8 A6?

What's the horses? 400, right, well that's 21.75% loss from engine to rear wheels. About normal regardless of transmission. I assume he dynoed the new one before buying if he was that upset wit the results.

I'm a little disappointed they can't get it under 20%.

That is really low. A stock C6 A6 typically puts out around 335 rwhp. The manual C6 puts out around 345. There is about a 10 rwhp difference.

So it sounds as if something was amiss in his C6 A6. Now I really doubt that any dealer would allow a new not sold unit to be dynoed (exception: I once bought a tractor and had a choice of two identical units. I asked the dealer to dyno each and I took teh one with the higher reading) but if most A6's do achieve a respectable 16.25% loss then surely something was either not right with the car or th edyno. There are differences between dynos and side by side you will not get th eexact same numbers frm the same car on the same day. That's why it is important to run repeat tests on teh same equipment.

Hmmmmm.
I currently drive a C6 A6 ( 2007 Coupe ) and I follow the CF board.
The quickest stock C6 quarter mile time I have seen is from an A6.
4 of the current top 10 stock C6s are A6s.
( See below. )

Does any torque converter equipped automatic ( as opposed to automatically shifted manuals, like some Ferraris, Audi & BMWs ) – lose some HP? Yes.

However:
With the relatively aggressive first gear in the 6L80 and a final drive ( 2.92 vs 2.56 in the 2006 & 2007 Corvettes w/A6 ) approx. 14% more ‘dig’ (leverage ?) or mechanical advantage, but pushing something over 20% more weight in the G8, I think the G8 V8 will feel reasonably quick, even with the A6 trans.

And my personal observation is that the 6L80 also has a more aggressive ( I can’t think of a better word? ) combination of mechanical settings & \ or programming in regard to the TCC lockup algorithm. It seems to engage full TCC lockup earlier & more often than any other manumatic equipped, 8 cylinder cars I have driven extensively – including 1 other GM, 2 Lincolns & a VW.

And I certainly feel like I have enough HP & TQ.
I will be curious to see independent tests of production G8 V8s.
My ** GUESS **, based on what we know so far is high 13s, at just over 100 MPH for the A6.
And possibly mid-13s for the M6.
But I could certainly be wrong . . .

Readily admitting an addiction to TQ . . .

CORVETTEFORUM.COM C6 Corvette ET Rankings

Times are received from all over the country and are not corrected. Because track and weather conditions vary, this list ranking does not, and can not, identify the fastest cars or drivers in any particular order. It only lists the recorded times, regardless of conditions, in order from quickest to slowest. In cases where ET is the same, the higher MPH determines list order.

:iagree: Backing that up is facts that some magazines produced faster times with a Sky Redline automatic than with a manual. I know, its on ly half teh weight and cylinders, but launch can be everything.

The Sky Redline and Solstice GXP do better with the automatic because you can spool the turbos a little before launch. With the manual you spin or bog, launch is everything.

When referring to running a quarter mile, today's automatics typically produce better times than manuals. It is not just turbo cars.

And the newest CVTs may do even better, not having to shift even automatically once on the way to 60.

I actually saw a few A6 C6's put down 315rwhp +-2 2 weeks ago, they also belted 36x torque(damn autos get the fun with that one). It was on a mustang dyno, so add 10% feelgood numbers and you'll get the numbers everyone sees on the dynojets.

And yes, automatics today generally get better drag times, and even more so when drag racing is the primary function.

Motor Magazine in Australia tested the Commodore SS manual and auto, along with n HSV R8 and GTS and Ford Falcon XR6 turbo, and FPV F6 and F8. The SS manual and auto have a claimed 270kw (362hp). They actually had 292 (391hp) and 284kw (381hp) respectively at the flywheel and 236 (316) and 232 (311hp) at the rear wheel.

So
A: the claimed HP is LESS than actual
B: You only lose about 5hp with the auto
