: M6 release???
So I have read numerous posts about the M6 arriving soon after launch. Any one know exactly HOW soon? I have heard as long as 6 months after to as little as 1 month. And why the hell are they delaying the launch of the manual in the first place. The damn show car had the manual, so why cant the production version get it upon release. One would think that if they are marketing this as a sports sedan that a manual would be available at launch. Sorry for the rant :banghead:

PMD G8 09-03-2007, 02:08 AM Any word yet on when the M6 will be available?
Cool_Hand_Luke 09-03-2007, 02:31 AM crickets chirping........................
Nope, I keep banging my drum about how important it is to have this release ready with M6 and GXP options. The competition will already have GM beat with SRT8 ,M3/M5, and other top of the line models ready to thump the upstart G8 with no GXP version.
Naute 04-08-2008, 04:34 PM the current GT makes plenty of power for a base level. Right there with the ls2's. Like i can defiently come fond of a lower 13 sec car right off the line. Only lord knows ill take it into the 11's. But the 6 speed is standard for me really gettin this car.

Uh... the car does come with a 6 speed, but it's a 6 speed automatic. No 6 speed manual until the GXP comes out. There has been plenty of debate about whether or not the manual transmission will ever be offered on the GT, but as far as I know the answer as of now is that it won't.
SPARKYBOY5X8 04-16-2008, 05:18 AM Naute, the car is mid 14 sec off the showroom floor not 13's, stop dreaming man. And as for the M6, it's saved for the best and much more powerful LS3 GXP G8
Slizzo 04-16-2008, 07:30 AM Uhm, no it's been proven that the car is a mid 13's car right off the bat.
I now refer you to:
Stock G8 1/4Mile (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnYKQaXZevc)
^ That's a compilation vid, taken at Atco, which, granted, was just resurfaced and is very sticky, but I digress.... Also notice the Temp plate in the back window. Looks like the car was driven straight off the dealer lot and onto the strip.
With a tune for 93 octane they got low 13s at 107MPH....
This car has far more potential than most that are not in the know give it credit for.
Naute 04-16-2008, 09:13 AM sorry i meant 6 speed manual... i agree the car has great potential. mid 14's??? where you get that number man? watch the vid.
asylum 04-16-2008, 07:19 PM mate of mine just picked up his manual SS, G-tech'd at an EASY mid-13

I'm beginning to smell the slight whiff of "troll" in your posts...

Thats the first I have heard of a 6M in anything other than a GXP.

I don't think this will happen unless they figured out a way for the AFM to work with the manual or unless they drop the L76 for another power plant.
L8RG8R 05-20-2008, 01:05 AM I gotta have my manual six-speed! I am keeping my fingers crossed!
sccaGTO 05-22-2008, 07:36 PM I don't think this will happen unless they figured out a way for the AFM to work with the manual or unless they drop the L76 for another power plant.
The only thing they would have to do is reprogram the ECU (I think). IIRC, the computer re-routes oil to 4 of the cylinders to stop the valves from opening. All they have to do is reprogram that function out & add in the manual transmission. I also think I remember reading that Vector can program AFM out. http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f53/active-fuel-management-50389/
ADent 05-29-2008, 02:02 PM But then the M6 will get worse mileage in the tests (and EPA rating) than the A6.
Also what will the take rate on the GT M6 be? (what was it on the GTO?) How many M6 buyers will get the GXP? Is the take rate worth the money to certify the fourth engine/tranny combo (GXP M6, A6 - GT A6 and then the M6?).
There is still a chance, I saw this today on G8nation.
The gang at CarDomain.com recently had the pleasure of breaking bread with Maximum Bob. They were relentless at getting answer to the all important question….”What’s with the disappearance of the stick shift from modern cars?”
Mr. Lutz responded by reminding us that gone are the days where manual transmission are more fuel efficient than automatics. So in order to meet the all-important average fleet MPG goals, the number of sticks needs to be reduced.
On to the good stuff…we’ll keep it short and sweet….Lutz confirmed that the G8 GT will have an optional Tremec six-speed for 2009.
Rejoice my friends….rejoice.

Wow! That is great news.
G8Smitty 06-20-2008, 02:33 PM Left Lane News picked up the story as well.

BoostedToy 06-20-2008, 06:54 PM Looks like G8 GT M6 will employ a 3.27 rear gear. The 3.27 coupled up with the 6060 should be a nice combo.
Scroll down to transmission....
http://media.gm.com/us/pontiac/en/pr...8/09index.html (http://media.gm.com/us/pontiac/en/product_services/r_cars/r_c_g8/09index.html)
BoostedToy 06-20-2008, 07:13 PM 3.27 coupled with a 6060 will provide the following (approximately):
1st: 48.5 mph @ 6000 rpm
2nd: 70.5 mph @ 6000 rpm
3rd: 102 mph @ 6000 rpm
4th: 146 mph @ 6000 rpm
5th: 173.5 mph @ 6000 rpm
6th: 256 mph @ 6000 rpm
This car is geared relatively long. I personally like this gearing. Even w/o DOD, I don't care about the EPA rating, this car should be attaining 26-28 mpg at 70 mph on cruise control. 1640 rpm @ 70 mph. For comparative purposes, the GXP will turn 1860 rpm @ 70 mph.(theoretically...variables include dependant on TC lockup, and whether tires are properly inflated...this was calculated with the 19" wheel/tire package)
G8Nation.com 06-24-2008, 07:26 PM Just in case you guys haven't heard, the rumor about the 6 speed Tremec stick that was initially published last week by the gang at CarDomain.com isn't accurate. I heard from Pontiac Communications Manager, Jim Hopson this morning and he let me know that the info wasn't factual. There was an apparent misunderstanding between what Bob Lutz said and what CarDomain heard. :(
GR8 G8 07-11-2008, 05:52 PM Such a mistake not to offer it. I don't quite think i'm convinced by the whole fule economy thing as most buyers choose the auto just like with the Corvettes. But like many, I will not buy this car unless I have a 6 speed manual. Automatics bore me... no driver involvement. It's still said to be seen if I can afford a GXP.....
ps. it'd be nice to know the damn price already!
FtrV8 07-22-2008, 01:11 AM Well if GM is offering AFM and a six-speed for the new 2010 Camaro (according to the press release below in the link), then I do see a possibility of either one of two; six speed no AFM, or six speed with AFM. When I wouldn't know. Now they might just not offer at all, but who knows. I am waiting it out for a six speed manual!

UltraMagnus 07-22-2008, 11:31 AM ^ There will not be a six speed stick with AFM. I think the Camaro announcement pretty much guaranteed that. Too much interaction between the engine and transmission to allow AFM to work right without the computer running the tranny.
FtrV8 07-22-2008, 05:11 PM I don't mind that at all Ultra Magnus! Delete the AFM and let me get my six speed manual. That way I don't HAVE to buy a GXP if I want a G8! Can I get a AMEN! =)
