: First oil change.. many questions..
hazer396 10-26-2009, 05:50 PM I'm not trying to spend alot of money.. right now im at 2800mi and using whatever i got in my car when i bought it.
1. Which oil should i use and how many qts?
2. Which oil filter should i use?
3. Where is the oil filter? at the bottom? (i think i saw a thread about this)
and thats it!!
SRG963 10-26-2009, 06:03 PM The filter is at the bottom drivers side.
I use Wix, Napa Gold, or K&N oil filters.
I use Castroil Edge oil and have run Royal Purple and Mobil 1 in the past, in this car. I've been changing every 7500 even though the DIC says I can go 18k between changes.
Not sure of the quarts, as I'm a GT and we use 8.8.
When your done changing the oil. Turn the car on, but do not start, and within 5 seconds mash the gas peddle 3 times to reset the oil monitor.
Then get out, jump back 3 times, do a back filp and take a picture and post!
hazer396 10-26-2009, 06:14 PM YOU HAS A GT!!!
i have a V6
SRG963 10-26-2009, 06:19 PM Still a nice looking car :) I almost got the White Hot

Yeah, I like the stryker blue also.
Hell, I like them all!:judge::judge::judge::judge:

Mike Jung 10-26-2009, 06:38 PM You have a drop-in cartridge type oil filter.
http://www.wixconnect.com/images/filters/1401_1.gif
You should be able to access it from the top.
Becareful in not over tightening the cap for the oil filter.
I like Wix, aka: NAPA Gold & CarQuest Premuim Blue oil filters
hazer396 10-26-2009, 06:41 PM im going to napa right now.. you think they would know what i need?
Mike Jung 10-26-2009, 06:59 PM From http://www.wixfilters.com
The NAPA Gold oil filter should be: 7090
hazer396 10-26-2009, 07:05 PM 5w-30 is the oil i need.. but how many quarts.. that is the question?
duffman 10-26-2009, 07:26 PM 6.6 quarts for the v6. Are the NAPA filters better than Fram? I've been running Fram filters and Quakerstate synthetic since I bought the car.

Check your manual
Someday 10-26-2009, 07:31 PM I've been told numerous times that Fram filters are crap. Wix and AC Delco are supposed to be good. I think the K&N filter is supposed to be good too.
andrewv28 10-26-2009, 08:13 PM The filter is at the bottom drivers side.

So I have always used the old "change your oil every 3,000 miles" method. I have 2,100 miles on my car now. Should I stick with changing every 3,000 or can this car go longer between changes?
hazer396 10-26-2009, 08:42 PM So i went with castrol edge.. and a STP filter..
lol when the guy asked what car i have hes like OMG i love those!!!
but then hes like OH when i told him i had a V6.. but then he came outside and watched me driveaway
lol autozone

++1 on all of that. I will never again use a Fram filter. If I was in the desert and needed one to get the car home I would get out and push it instead of installing the Fram. Yeah, I feel that strongly.
I believe NAPA gold filters are made by Wix. Hastings makes a pretty good filter also.
hazer396 10-27-2009, 12:23 PM well i did my oil change took me about 30 min after lifting the car up i actually like the drop in oil filter.. pretty easy and convenient
Mike Jung 10-27-2009, 12:34 PM ...Are the NAPA filters better than Fram? I've been running Fram filters and Quakerstate synthetic since I bought the car.
Yes.
Fram are frowned upon on many forums.
& for good reason too.
NAPA Gold oil filters are high quality & high flowing oil filters.
(Note: The other NAPA oil filters are different than the Gold model.)
SRG963 10-27-2009, 12:47 PM So I have always used the old "change your oil every 3,000 miles" method. I have 2,100 miles on my car now. Should I stick with changing every 3,000 or can this car go longer between changes?
Enter engineering mode (hold down enter when turning the key) and your DIC will tell you when it's time to change. Mine tells me I can go 18k between, but I change every 7500.
duffman 10-27-2009, 02:47 PM Well I guess I will be running NAPA Gold from now on! Thanks guys.

18000 hu. Must be an easy driver or I just drive mine too hard. Mine says to change every 12000 miles. :)
rich67 11-10-2009, 09:19 PM the v6 takes 7 qts. !!!
Panzer Leader 11-11-2009, 07:16 AM Interesting when you look at where the filters are made. Most in India and cost more. AC/DELCO is made in the U.S. and costs less (at Autozone)
SRG963 11-11-2009, 08:15 AM 18000 hu. Must be an easy driver or I just drive mine too hard. Mine says to change every 12000 miles. :)
lol, I drive 90% highway, which accounts for my higher mileage interval :)
I change every 7500 regardless :)
hazer396 07-03-2010, 06:31 PM im thinking about switching to royal purple now..
what do you guys think?
i wanted to switch over to full synthetic anyway..
anything special i have to do?
Schwartz 07-03-2010, 06:37 PM I use royale purple 5w30 in mine.Mobile1 is just as good.I feed my ride nothin' but the best!
