I don't care for the DRL on my G8 (through the headlights) and would rather they be set as my parking lights. Any way of doing this?

Not legally. In most states you cannot run with only parking lamps. But you can disable the DRL (don't know particulars, but certainly it can be done)

Rotate the headlight switch to the left... they turn off. At least, they do in my car, unless I'm hallucinating. You have to do it every time you get in the car.

The car before my G8 was a Saturn Ion and its DRL's were the parking lights (this is the same for many GM models).

I just pull and turn my switch to the parking lamps. Doesn't take me any longer than it does to put the car in gear.

This is what I've been doing too. Parking lights with the fog lamps turned on when its getting near dusk makes the car look bad a$$, IMO.

Parking light DRLs look better to some people. That's what he's wanting to do. If he leaves his headlight switch in "Auto", his headlights will keep him legal.:wink2:

There's states in the US that require DRLs? I'm glad WI isn't one of them.

I had a 2002 Saab 9-5 that had DRLs. Making them into parking lights was as simple as pulling a fuse.

DRLs were at one time supposed to be a US Federal regulation. But, the government backed off of that. Since GM wants to promote DRLs as a safety item, they have continued to use them. Canada does require DRLs, so they have no option.

Apparently you get a break on insurance for having them too. Same with OnStar (considered a tracking device).

I wired the fogs on my Bonneville to operate as the DRLs. You can remove the standard DRL relay, and use a jumper wire from the correct socket to a different relay so that another circuit is activated when the DRLs would normally be. On my car, the Fogs have their own relay, so they operated as DRLs without the taillamps, which is what I wanted.

After stating the above though, please keep in mind that you may damage something if you make the wrong connection, so unless you really know what you are doing, it's not worth the risk. I did mine by studying which pins did what on the relay box with a Voltmeter, but it really would be best to study a wiring diagram.

What I would like to do when I get mine is to rewire the DRLs so that they work with the high beams like a lot of other cars do simply because I think that it'll look better than the DRLs working with the normal headlights plus so I shouldn't have to deactivate them when I install a HID kit.

In my Vue Redline I pulled the DRL relay out so now it's like a regular car with night time activation intact. I like to control my lights too.

I wonder if this car has said relay...

well all u have to do is turn your light switch to the right 2 twice and ur DRLS go off and ur parking lights come on instead if thats what yuor trying to do

the drls there is a fuse in the kick panel on the driver side its fuse 21 just pull it and the drls will be off i did that to my car because i put h.i.d lights in

I want them to work with the HIDs but hooked up that the DRLs work with the high beams. Sort of how the DRLs/HIDs work in the Audi A4 and A6.

Here's an example from an A4

Here is a 5 series too with the DRLs on. This is the look I'm looking for.

I'm hoping that someone can find a way to hook up the DRLs this way.

I would like to find a way to do this too. I'm planning HID headlamps and the ballast wont like the low voltage from the DRL. Is there any way to re-route the DRL lighting to different lamps? There are three other lamps the DRL could be going to that would be better IMO than the headlights.

Two things I dislike about DRLs:

1) They put motorcyclists at a distinct disadvantage. Used to be, you could spot a motorcycle right off the bat, because they already had DRLs. Now, they just blend in with the crowd.

2) Dim witted driver's who don't use their headlights because the DRLs are on, especially in the fog. There should be a big warning sign on the headlamp switch when you buy a new car that says: "Hey assh*le! Your taillights do not come on with the DRLs!"

Nothing I hate worse than coming up behind someone in the fog, only to find the are puttering around with only DRLs.

DRLs make some people retarded!

I know this is an old thread but I needed to find out what fuse it was...

I agree with Mac 110% if that's possible... That drives me NUTS!

I was planning on looking into this. In my silverado that I traded in for the G8, I was able to use diodes and jump the high beam circuit to the low beams and the DRL's (silverado had separate hi, low and drl bulbs), so that if I hit the high beams the low beams and DRL's would also light up, but if the low beams or DRL's were on they would not feed the high beams. I would think the same thing can be done with the G8 as long as the DRL, high and low circuits all have separate relays.

I asked a tech about switching around my DRL's to the highbeams, he said he could do it but the dash would read highbeams when it's really low and low when it's high.

Probably, but that means there's probably a relay somewhere that controls this, just jumper it and all should be well. I'll probably look to do this, but its too cold out to fiddle with the car.

I pulled the DRL fuse this past weekend in my new G8 and when I did the DRL's stopped working, like I wanted, BUT my power seats didn't work either? Anyone had this problem? There were 2 fuses labeled for the DRL's, a small blade fuse and a larger one, both in the driver side box.

somebody in the Canada forum made the fogs his DRLs. I've tried sending him a PM, but he hasn't been active in a while. He had a wiring diagram from the dealer.

The small one would be the fuse, the larger one would be the relay. You need to put the fuse back in and pull the DRL relay instead, as the power seat is probably on the same fuse circuit.

power seat is probably on the same fuse circuit.

Its not, my DRL fuse is pulled and my seats work fine.

I stand corrected.
I looked in the owner's manual, and the DRL fuse is F21 in the engine compartment fuse block, and the power seats are actually a circuit breaker, B3.
Maybe by coincidence the power seat circuit breaker got tripped.
DRL relay is R11
