The GTO is BACK!
The GTO is BACK! In SPEED World Challenge, that is. After two blown motors in Sebring and an electronics problem in Long Beach, Group-A Wheels is switching from a Corvette to a Pontiac GTO. The announcement was made official this week after a long awaited deal was but together with Autosport Development. The final deal included the two cars that were run in World-Challenge in 2004-2007.
Joey Scarallo will jump out of his Corvette and into the GTO as of round 3 at Utah. While there will be no time to shake down the cars or do any testing, the team is looking forward to putting the GTO back on the track. A second team driver may be announced at a later date.
“I am so excited to be in the GTO both as a driver and from a personal aspect. This is a great chance for us to show, once again, that we are the authority for GTO, G8 and all GM wheels. Not to mention, promoting the new DR-2, other future offerings, and giving our customers something to cheer for when they watch us race.” – Joey Scarallo
Do not look for the GTO to be in the winners circle right out of the box. There will be a few bugs to be worked out, but do look for the Joey and the GTO to be winning races around Watkins Glen.
What you can look for, is added products to be available from Group-A Wheels. A full body kit to replicate the Race GTO will be offered for the street. Flared Carbon Fiber fenders and Louvered Carbon Fiber Hoods, as well as other Carbon Fiber body panels for the GTO will be offered, as we look to tie-in our racing program with what we sell for the street.
