I know this is a weird request perhaps, but can someone who owns or has access to a Commodore SS take some trunk measurements for me?

I know what the rated cargo volume for the G8 will be, I'm trying to get an idea of the opening size.

Please pop the trunk open and measure:

1. Put one end of measuring tape against top trunk seal and measure down
and towards you to bottom trunk seal at the center of the trunk. Kind of a top to bottom opening measurement.

2. Put one end on left trunk seal and measure across to the right one going along the TOP plane of the trunk.

3. Repeat #2 but measure lower, along the rear-facing plane of the trunk.

I was kind of interested in a current Impala SS until I went to the dealer. Though the capacity is huge, the opening isn't. Sorry but as a family man I need to be able to throw in a stroller, big suitcase, etc. (Even the Malibu sedan had a much bigger opening than the Impala.)

Thanks!!

Whose ya gonna stuff in dat trunk, wise guy. ;)

Look at a last model Bonneville for similar opening while waiting on measurements. The Impala is only a Grand Prix, not any larger, BTW.

Umm, not exactly. The Impala has an 18.6 cu ft trunk, and the GP has a 16 (so does LaCrosse). Despite all 3 being W-bodies, the Impala is the biggest in every measurement.

And despite the previous body style Impala also having an 18.6 cu ft trunk, the current one has a much smaller trunk lid, thus making it harder to load bigger items. :-)

Sorry for the late reply but here are the measurements:
1-top trunk seal->bottom trunk seal: 45 inches
2-across to the right and along the top: 85 inches
3-across to the right and along the bottom: 76 inches

and here are some other measurements I took while taping my trunk:

depth of the trunk (from the outer seal till the inside): 45.5 inches
height of the trunk on the inside (from the roof to bottom): 18.5 inches

Cheers,

Does the Impala have goosenecks or parallelagrams?

This is spooky, the wide-track Pontiac GP's front track is .80 in narrower than Impala, and is smaller in every single dimension, including height by almost 3 inches. Obviously the extra body width and length of the Impala shows up mostly in the trunk.
