Well, here are my new wheels. Will be lowering the G8 on Monday to give it a proper stance. Thoughts?

What size tires did you go with, and what are you doing with your stock wheels?

Oh, and plz post more pics!

Do you think they'd go well with black?

I'm gettin all worried now that theres not much I can do with my black car. I dont want to make it all black because I dont want it to look all gangster.

Ride quality feels the same and it is still fast as heck. Tires are Sumitomos. Bought the whole package from TireRack with sensors. Cost was $2100. Getting the full Pedders Track 2 on Monday. Looking to lower the front and rear about 1.5" to give it a nice squat look. Looks very sinister in person, pic looks sort of sedate.

I actually like the "Murdered Out" look on cars... I'm not wanting to go the full route but there is just something about a Black car with really dark window and black wheels that screams "BAD ASS!!!" :driving:

Breyton has typically been a BMW application and those wheels make the G8 look even more BMW-like (not a bad thing, IMO). I wouldn't say the pic looks sedate, just very purposeful, in a Teutonic, BMW M5 sort of way.

All have to say is SWEET, can you plug in a pic of the front angle too.

I have been eyeing those, I think I want them now. On Tirerack you couldn't really tell how good they were going to look.

Thanks for the compliments. My ultimate goal is to create a BMW M5 killer for under $40,000. After the Pedders the icing on the cake will be a Magnacharger. I posted when I bought the car I paid $25,200 for it with my discount off MSRP and my GM Card. Wheels and Pedders will put me right at $30,000 (getting Rob's 50% off deal from Wretched Motorsports) leaving me $10,000 for engine upgrades. Seems almost unreal that for under $40,000 this car will compete with just about any sedan from Europe.

Wow! Your ride looks great man! Excellent choice of wheels.

I hope you don't mind but I did a chop for you so that you and the rest of us can get an idea of how you're ride will look after it's lowered. I also painted the calipers red too just for you to see if you would like to do that too. It'll look killer man.

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r166/Blackstang96GT/Picture084red.jpg

I know that you didn't ask so I hope you don't mind me doing the chop and posting it if so let me know and I'll remove the pic.

Good luck with your goal for the G8 to be a M5 killer. The G8 has all the potential to do it.

Rue, THANKS. Holy Crap it looks good. I like the red calipers...didn't think I would but it offsets all the grey. Nice job with the chop!

Rue_G8GT
05-09-2008, 04:08 PM
You're welcome man and I'm glad that you like it. :)

What would also look good is painting the calipers flat black. Porsche 911s and Audi RS models are that color if you want to do something to the calipers but not totally offset the grey theme like the red does. I tried to do a chop of the calipers in black but they didn't show up well enough to present.

GEE ATE
05-09-2008, 04:15 PM
Now, I am seriously considering painting them red. I guess the worst case is I don't like it and paint them black. Got to say the red works really well, there is a red Breyton script in the center cap of the wheel that it will match. Moreover, it will be the only color on the car and it draws attention to the wheels. Looks like a project that I'm putting on the "to do" list. Thanks again for the idea.

Yeah, Rue, the chop looks awesome. Gee Ate, your car will look great once you get the brakes/suspension done. These are the pics I DIDNT want to see...now I am going to start throwing mad money at my car, I am afraid. Gee thanks! HA!

Rue_G8GT
05-09-2008, 04:23 PM
I think that the calipers would look great in red but I also understand that you don't want to offset the grey theme too much. I also noticed the red Breyton script on the caps so I thought yeah red calipers would match well with the caps.

I would be careful though on what red paint you select. Don't select a way too vivid red color that would clash imo.

Thanks Cashed. :)

What kind of places can I go to get my calipers painted red? I know I can do it myself (and I've read the threads on this board on how to do it), but I would prefer to give it to a pro. I don't want to screw up doing it myself (let alone lose part of my weekend doing it).
I asked my dealership for some referrals, but they couldn't get me anyone...

Breyton apparently makes that wheel in a 19 inch, but it doesn't come up as a fitment when you plug it into TR's website. I love those wheels, but I'd prefer not to have to buy tires as well. Are they available for the G8 in 19 inch? Thanks!

Well a local dealer is tempting me to come down and buy a '08 G8 GT in Magnetic Gray with Premium and Sport packages. If I do, the first thing I want to do is swap the wheels and sell the stockers.

GEE ATE -

What do you think of the wheels and tires you choose now that they are on the car? Any vibrations? I'm hoping since Tire Rack uses GPS9700's to perform the balancing, that there isn't any wobble or vibrations. I'm super anal when it comes to wheel vibration, so I'd be interested to know your thoughts beside the overall ride quality.

I'm considering the same Sumitomo tires or perhaps the Generals which are rated #1.

With some tint, your car will look 110% perfect. Great look, great choice in wheels. Your car is my desktop background and I will strive to get that level of perfecting in a G8! :)

Well, it's official...Rob at Wrethched Motorsports has installed the Pedders Track 2 and boy does my G8 handle now! As you can see from Rob's pic it has been substantially lowered in the rear and a bit in the front. The handling? AMAZING! The G8 is razor sharp..you can feel every input you make into the steering wheel. The ride quality? EXCELLENT! Feels pretty much the same as factory. Overall I am super impressed with Pedders and with Rob's operation. First class all the way! Only small issue is I am currently having the rear fenders rolled to make sure this is no rub. I have driven the car about ten miles as is and no rub. But with back seat passengers and a truck full of stuff there would likely be some rub...so roll the fenders. Car is super tight, no vibrations. Thanks for all the wheel compliments, everyone who sees the wheels seems to really like the setup. Again, contrats to Rob for a job well done! ...I would guess so. I would be more concerned with wheel weights that have fallen off the oem shipped cars (as reported in March) Than I would anything from TR or the other major wheel houses. They don't get as big as they are and have the rep they do by shipping anything that is suspect. TR even has a list of local approved installers you can trust all the way to the bank. (in case you buy wheels only or tires only)

I've had problems in the past with aftermarket wheels in general, which is why I asked the OP on how the wheel and tire package worked out. Sometimes it's not a matter of the vendor, or even how it's balanced. Differences from things like hub centric to lug centric, can cause a lot of problems. TR seems to do a good job with centering rings and such, but my friends wife bought a tire/wheel package from them about 18 months ago, and they did have the wobbles on their VW Passat. Let's just say I know more about road force, static, dynamic, and strobe balancing than I ever wanted to out of pure necessity to get some of my vehicles smooth. I remember my first set of TRD wheels on my Toyota Tundra, they were garbage.

My stock wheels seem perfectly balanced on the G8, with zero vibration. With you mentioning wheel weights falling off, I'm wondering if the first G8 GT Sport I drove was suffering from this problem. It vibrated very badly on the freeway, where as the car I bought from another dealer is extremely smooth.

Thanks for the info.

One thing to keep in mind about the 19 inch wheels with summer performance tires. If the car had been sitting for days without being test driven, it's possible that the tires were "flat spotted." This is more prevalent in UHP tires with nylon overlays, as the nylon tends to hold that shape if the car has been sitting for a while. Usually goes away after a few miles.

I did notice a mild vibration on my car during the test drive, but it has never returned since I've owned it.

Good point. I was already suspect of the car when I test drove it, because two weeks prior I saw it sitting up at Les Schwab with a flat rear drivers side tire. Then when I started driving it, the steering wheel was several degrees off center. It added up to a pretty piss poor drive on the freeway, but below 55 was pretty good. I figured it was something with that particular car, so when I bought my G8 GT yesterday I didn't even drive the thing. I signed the papers, jumped it, and the rest was history. Thankfully mine was smooth as silk from the moment she got out on the road.

Thank you, pictures worth a 1000 words. Seems doable.

I had visions of rubber mallets and someone beating the hell out of the fender lip (of a $30,000.00 plus car) trying to gain tire clearance. That tool makes the whole proposition seem very civilized.

pinski
05-22-2008, 03:41 PM
Exactly, Tonkadad - it's actually a pretty simple process. Before I knew what it actually was, I thought the tool went up into the wheel well to physically EXTEND the fender outward, a la the fender bulges on BMW M3's and Subaru WRX's. Thankfully that's not the case!

I don't think you posted the wheel deminsions, off sets, 20x? and tire sizes. Looks more like a 5 series now, I just saw a 530 here at the lake, it looked lower then stock, but, 25k higher.

One question for those who understand offsets better than me. I like to have the wheels out towards the fender as much as possible without rubbing. Tirerack shows the same Breytons in 19"x9.5 with 35mm offset.

Tires are very close to rubbing after the drop. Unfortunately, we do not have the wheel available to us in a higher offset to move them "in" more so the lip roll is necessary.

Yes, they are the Race GTS

I get my Breyton's tomorrow! UPS has sat on them in their HUB about 110 miles away since Sunday. But they are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, and I can't wait.

I'm keeping the stock right height as it better suits my driving style. The Magna Flow ships this Friday, and I got my tint done last Friday. HIDs this weekend, wheels, paint the calipers... she's almost done.
