So I have a honest service guy that swears by this ZMax stuff. I haven't personally tired it, or know of anyone who has.
Anyone try or currently use ZMax? Using every oil change seems costly.

Don't let this turn into a oil discussion!

The only oil additives I have ever used were BG products and those I only use with convention oil. We use these products in our 18 snowplow truck fleet. I also use it in my 1997 Chevy Caviler Z-24 with 100K miles. Does it help? Its hard to say for sure. The rep came in to our shop and showed my Uncle how they work. Mixed up a bunch of their stuff with water in test tubes etc. My Uncle has been a dealer ever since.
I have only used Mobil 1 in my new cars since my 1996 GMC Jimmy and do not use oil additives with the synthetic. Had 100K on the Jimmy when I sold it, have 40K on the '02 Envoy and will use in my G8 when it is time.
Isn't the ZMax supposed to help High Mileage Cars, or am I thinking of RESTORE?

zmax is a metal conditioner/friction inhibitor, it's not intended for high mileage engines, though it can well be used in them. they actually recommend brushing or soaking your rods and pistons in it prior to assembly as it penetrates into the metal, and I believe it's a periodic use, not every oil change. has anyone had any real world experience with it? is it really as beneficial as they claim or is it all hype? they sure spend a lot in advertising so I assume they have to be selling it by the boatload. anyone who knows your input would be appreciated.

Unless you just feel like spending the extra money I wouldn't worry about it. Staying with the factory recommendation for oil will be just fine in these cars.

ZMAX was sued by the government. Although they didn't loose the case, I'd still say its benefits are questionable.
At the end of the day you have to ask yourself this: If there was a simple way to make the engine last longer, or to get better gas mileage, don't you think General Motors and/or other companies would be doing it?

Without an independent test lab providing empirical data, I wouldn't trust any product as far as I could throw my G8.

Snake oil. Use factory spec'd fluids and you'll be just fine.

^ agreed.
Manufacturers usually recommend staying away from additives so I would follow that if I was you.

Their claims are too good to be true... Weren't they the ones driving a car around town without oil in it?
