Feel free to suggest ways of making the G8 of the month contest better. A lot of forums have similar contests, but different rules. One suggestion submitted to me was nomination entries only. I like this idea. We may try this to see how this works out. Another forum's contest has a different theme every month (night photos, city backgrounds, etc.) Any other ideas?

I suggest that photos that are photoshopped not be allowed. It's not natural and not everyone has access to that s/w. Maybe I'm missing something though. :dunno:

Must admit I agree with the no photoshopping! And the other forums I'm on usually have an open invite and then starting later in the month start voting down to say 10, then 5 and then a winner. Any ideas are cool though!

1) Limit amount of g8's in final voting to 4 or 5. I think there were way too many in the 1st poll

2) Once a g8 wins g8 of the month, make it so they are not allowed to be nominated again until the following year. (because if there is a badass g8 on the board, everyone will keep nominating it and it will keep wining making it unfair for others)
But it's ok to be nominated more than once, unless you have already won.

How would you guys like it if maybe it was theme based? In this case, people would have to submit their own pics because it would be too difficult to nominate a pic based on the criteria, IMO. i.e, City background pics, night pics, etc. An issue I could see with this is that not everyone would have access to certain sceneries, conditions, etc. Just a thought.

I would suggest not completely do away with Photoshopped images. Maybe make one month a No Photoshop, one month night shot, one month photoshopped, one month action shots. My 2 cents.

Not entirely sure yet, but to the G8 rally, wherever that is. It's all just a maybe right now, but basically I'll start in L.A. then drive to Kentucky.....then hang around for a few weeks, then end up at the G8 rally. :)

I suggest, that for the April COTM, we go back to just individual shots of cars so anyone who hasn't entered their ride can do so without it needing to be an *in action* pose. Follow the K.I.S.S. rule.

We can do that. I was going to do a different theme each month, i.e., Beach/Ocean/River background, city background, night shots, etc. Not only action shots, that was just for this month only. But if that's what you guys want we can do regular shots. Doesn't matter to me. But, I think the cap will still apply so we don't have too many entries. The general consensus seems to agree that the first month's had way too many.

How about we make one months theme, in front of a building that everyone has access to. Such as a gas station, school, hospital, etc....

Or we could even make it a little more difficult and have to take it with a....lets see...i know, a national monument. Like say...um....oh what could it be? Of course, yes " Devils Tower". I win I win. Yeah.

Personally I don't like that idea. Most automotive discussion forums that I've been around that have a car of the month feature displayed it on the front page of the parent of the board. You'll notice that this discussion forum is only one aspect of AutoGuide; people who may not even care about message boards will still see the G8 of the month if it's on the top level page.

I was thinking a good theme for one of the months could be, Best Photo at a Car Show/Event. Something with other cars in the background.

For Sept. I suggest the COTM should be of action shots at the drag strip, autocross or road course events. This is an aspect of our "performance sedans" that should be brought to the forefront once-in-a-while.

That was just an in general "Action Shots" contest. I'm thinking more in terms of shots of the G8 doing burnouts at the strip; into the turns at a famous road course, or maybe Jaysin knocking over some cones at an AutoX. ;)

October's theme for G8OTM should be best photos from the national meet. Just a thought I had, although that would limit the number of potential participants. BUT it is only one month and might be a cool way to showcase the biggest G8 event to date.

Well, kinda like the GXPs, but even less common are V6 entries. If we limited it to V6 only, we'd get 3-4 entries at best. Look how the theme went this month, very little entries, even though I know there are a lot more track pictures out there. Then again, I guess that's not something everyone can do either. We don't have any tracks around here so that excluded all my pictures as well.

That might be doable since everyone can participate, even with a stock engine bay. It doesn't have to be a beautiful engine bay, just a beautiful shot of your engine bay. Hmmm...we can probably do this one for one of the months.

This is the first year of doing this, so there has been trial and error all year, but it seems to be going pretty smooth. Now if we could get some vendors to sponsor some prizes......:D

I love all g8s, how about haveing a v6 along with a gt,gxp, or a firehawk, on each month? all colors are great too. I have the 2011 calendar, is there a 2010 g8 calendar? if so how can i get one?

I still want a "Rival" photo contest. Like your G8 nose to nose with say a Mustang or Charger or doing a burnout in front of one of those cars. Just an idea. I think all these ideas sound pretty good!

as for the GXP and V6 car of the month.... I dont know what the Trim of the G8 has to do with winning. It all seems to be based off the exterior appearance of the car. Yes the v6 gt gxp has small style changes between them but if you do exterior style mods to the car no one trim level has an advantage over another. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't mind seeing a G8 of the week deal where on the front page there was an owners spotlight where they can talk about there car and mods or whatever and post the picture of their choosing. Maybe have the Mods select a contributing forum member. It could be like an honorary thing to be chosen by the forum mods who see people putting in work by being active in the forums. Then turn G8 of the month into more of a photo of the month type of deal to showcase someones photog art work on the front page as well.

That would be very hard to moderate. Some pictures look photoshopped but are not and some that are photoshopped could pass as a real picture. That used to be the rule, but I'm no picture expert so I can't enforce that. But for those that have the reasoning that it leaves people out because they have expensive software, that's not true. You can download plenty of free software that will do most of the cool effects.

i might be misunderstanding your circumstances behind when you can and cannot upload Photoshoped pics, but isnt it kinda handy to have people PS cosmetic things that your considering doing to your car? like powdercoating wheels, Firehawking the hood, blacking out tails.. that kinda thing
