I'll be looking at an 09 G8 GT later this year and I'm planning ahead and learning before hand :)
It seems, from what I've read, that the stock manifolds are the restriction once you open up the exhaust (Magnaflow, etc.). I was thinking a cheap alternative to aftermarket headers would be a set of stock exhaust manifolds of a different LSx motor....
Any ideas on what would work, if any? Otherwise, I'll just see what options are out there for headers....when the time comes.

I'm in the same boat as you are. Looking to get a loaded 09' Magnetic Grey ASAP and already starting a "mods" list.

I plan on waiting to see what comes on the GXP. I have a feeling they will have better flowing manifolds and a 2.5" catback setup. Better flowing and factory noise levels is what I am looking for :wink2:

The GXP will have a different engine, the LS3. Not sure if they will fit our heads. But maybe someone can get ahold of some off of the new vette and let us know.

Heads are different bore size but the manifolds will bolt up

Yeah? Says they're the L92 heads. I assume when GM gives something a part number, it stays the same. Maybe I assume incorrectly.

Same heads with different bore for the intake but same exhaust diameter.
