After 15,000 worry free miles...I hit my first problem with my G8. I've noticed that the engine noise is louder than usual. It sounds loudest when I'm around 35-45mph. I haven't lost any power or noticed a difference. It's just bugging me wondering what is going on with the engine.
I did a visual inspection to see if I saw something clogged...nothing. Has anyone had this problem with the V6?

Check for loose hoses or the engine air filter cover not completely closed.

I know the V6 engine is loud under acceleration. But this is during just cruising. It kinda sounds like the fan is working overtime.

I am driving mine on the autobahn here in west Germany and I do notice the sound at a cruising speed. My check engine light came on the other day and I got it checked out and they said it was the cam shaft error. The car runs just fine no lose of power or anything. They cleared the code and it has not came back yet.

Do you hear it at idle? Are you stock? You could always scan it for codes just to be sure.Yes...mine is stock.

That does make sense...cause if I remember correctly...I accelerated kinda hard at the light the morning that I started to hear it...but the car lagged it off the line...thought it was weird.
Good to see it was just a code. Hopefully it's the same for me :(
You could have a failing cam shaft position sensor. That is a nightmare of a fix, or at least it was on my Wife's Regal GS.I'm taking it in to the dealership next Tuesday.
Thanks guys!

Not to change the subject but Norm8 hows Spangdahlem was stationed there in the late eighties. I lived in trier and loved the Germany country side.

The work sucks but the country side is still great. finding a certifyed gm dealer is a pain. closest one is an hour away.
I heard about some recalls. anyone have any problems?

No problems here.
There was an issue with soft cams on certain 3.6 V6's in other GM products (Saturn Outlook and Aura were two). Not sure how similar those engines are to ours.

Noise was a broken driver side strut. Getting fixed. G8 stayed overnight so dealer got me a rental...2009 Buick Enclave...fully loaded. Got it with 19miles on the odometer. Sucks I can't put more than 150 miles on it :(
