: I got an OnStar Phone Call Last Night...
Zaphod B 05-14-2008, 10:46 AM ...which really surprised me since I haven't subscribed to that package.
But FYI it works really well, even if it was a wrong number from a total stranger. :wink2:
h3llphyre 05-14-2008, 10:48 AM I got a call from OnStar, telling me to call OnStar, to hear their sales pitch. I hit the hang up button and continued driving. Definately surprised me.
FL_G8 05-14-2008, 11:35 AM I am pretty happy with it so far. I subscribed to the 100 min's for 15 dollars of hands free calling.

Me too, so for those that hung up and didn't call them they lost out on a great op for 100 min for $15! :)

Well, shoot, I never got a solicitation. The standard rate for 100 min is $39.99, so $15 is a great deal.
Tonkadad 05-14-2008, 12:39 PM What would you use it for? If I have a cel phone why would I want 100 mins of On-Star? Obviously I have never had a GM car before.
thanks
Smtkd 05-14-2008, 01:15 PM Well, sometimes I forget my cell at home so its nice to have the Onstar service as a backup also when I drive I can keep my eye's on the road and hands on the wheel while driving this beast, so the Onstar comes in handy to just speak into the hands-off mic and the number is dialed for me. Plus, my friends think it cool when I get a call from the misses when Im driving! :D
edfiero 05-14-2008, 01:31 PM You can link your onstar account to your Verizon account and use those minutes. The onstar phone is much more powerful than a standard cell. 3 watts vs 500 milliwatts.

My understanding of this was that you have to add your OnStar phone to your 'family plan' with Verizon. The pricing I saw on their website (Verizon) was ridiculous. I really wanted to do this but not for that expense.

bingo.
Zaphod B 05-14-2008, 02:15 PM I don't think I'd ever use it (unless the cost per minute comes way down), but it does work well. The talk / hangup buttons on the steering wheel make it super easy. I just don't spend enough time in the car for it to make sense.
Edit: and since my cell provider is AT&T I can't link it to my cell phone.
FL_G8 05-14-2008, 02:20 PM 100 min's for 15 dollars was to hard to pass up. I won't renew for the regular rate. I hope the Blue tooth option becomes available.
Tonkadad 05-14-2008, 04:49 PM I see says the blind man. (No offense intended)
Thanks very much.

Not true.. I did the same thing, then later changed my mind. Logged onto Onstar's website and still had the $15 option for 100min.
Smtkd 05-14-2008, 10:06 PM Congrats! Hope others get this deal before its gone too!
Ryan M 05-14-2008, 11:20 PM I would say no too, but for $15, why not? Cant get much for $15 these days.
I already have a few AT&T lines, and 3 T-Mobile lines, mise well add a Verizon line in there, lol
G8 Ray 05-15-2008, 06:47 AM All I got was a card from Onstar telling me to push the blue button. I guess I should do that.

I guess I should do that.I got it to talk to me one day without pushing the button, it was kind of weird hearing a voice in the car with me, plus it was reminding me that I had not set up Onstar yet, only problem was that I did about 3 weeks before.....

Are you afraid of offending the blind G8 enthusiast or the blind forum reader*? :shiner:
*I suppose it isn't impossible for a blind person to have a device that converts text on a computer to a Braille pad, but for the sake of the joke, they most likely wouldn't be interested in a G8 anyway.
