: Cruise Control disengages when I roll windows up

Today on the highway- I was experiencing what heard what seemed like more wind noise than usual, So I pull up on both front window buttons at the same time.

And cruise control disengaged? At first I thought I may have hit the button, or the pedal.

So I tested it several times. and it didn't do it every time, but I would say about 1 out of every 6 times I did it the Cruise Control would disengage?
This was during the day.

Tonight when I was driving back home- I tried it again, and it did it again. and I notice the lights dim (quite a bit) I would say...more than other cars I've had in the past.

Any ideas?

One thing to note- If the windows are actually down, it doesn't do it, but it is when you try to "roll" them up when they are already up.

I tried one window at a time, and it didn't cause the malfunction, I tried both rears at the same time, but that didn't seem to do it either.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Clubsport. It turned out that there was a short circuit in my trailer wiring harness, two of the pins were touching. It seemed odd that no fuses blew but it sent the cruise contol crazy and the instruments dropped out occasionally.

Not that it really matters, but I meant for this to be in the G8 (V8) section.

My local dealership blows monkey b@lls, so who knows if it will ever get fixed.

Did you hear about the guy in the F**d in Australia whose cruise control got stuck ON? He was doing 60mph (ish) on a freeway. Apparently mechanics can't find anything wrong with the car, but he's adamant it happened.....

Seriously??, you can always put the car in neutral, but you are saying that braking didn't disengage it? That is crazy.
You can also turn the key to the on position (not start) and that may give you Power steering and cut the engine (not sure).

I have tried it again, but it doesn't do it anymore? Either it has a certain speed associated with it, or a fluke, not sure..

He said he tried putting the car in neutral, shutting off the engine, putting the emergency brake on.... nothing worked. I'll see if I can find a link to the story for you.

not sure if electronically it would have let you, but he could have jammed it in park or reverse and that would have did it!

Thats weird? never heard of window switch shutting of crusie control. I seen some funny vids where people rewire there friends horn to the brake pedal.

He said the key wouldn't turn off, he couldn't press the button to get the car into neutral (I'm assuming it was automatic), and when he pressed the brake, it would only go in a little way, then become too hard to press. It all sounds a bit dodgy, but then he was driving a F**d.....

Either you believe in a ghosts/ devils/demons, or he is completely lying.
as the women said in the video: Too many fail safes in place

1. You have the cruise ON/OFF switch,

2. You have the brake that disengages the Cruise.

3. You have the Brake to slow down the car (even if it doesn't turn off cruise control)

4. You can drop to a lower gear and the high revs will engine brake the car, and break probably blow the engine if you drop to a low enough gear.

5. You can jam it in Park / or Reverse-- drop the tranny out, but probably save your life.

6. You have the E-brake

7. You can turn the key off and pull it out of the iginition

I used to have a second gen explorer (1995). Yes the cable can get stuck, had it happen once (only about 5 seconds). But this guy is lying his mouth off.

Ebrake even with new pads and calibrated sucked in the explorer, it would slow you down if you had no engine power, with engine power not really. Brakes on the explorer are really good, and don't heat up easily. My best guess is he just slowly kept adding more and more brake over time and started to boil the brake fluid.

So while hes stupid at this point to boiling the fluid hes still good in my book. But the last two things, of cut the engine, and throw it into N will work in that SUV. I did it for about 3 months to see what was the best MPG I could get out of it for a college paper.

And yes as I found out, if you foot is on the brake you CAN shift it into park. That was an opps on my part but it brought be down from 20 mph really fast on accident. Didnt hurt the truck as it wasnt going fast enough to destroy the locking pin.
