: Which Gives Better Gas Mileage????

I was wondering if anyone has tried this yet.

Do a couple runs in regular mode. Then fill your tank. Do another run in sport mode. Fill your tank. Then do a final run in manuel mode.

Which mode yields the best fuel mileage? I would think either regular or manuel. Manuel you could shift the car early and keep the RPM's really low and normal mode the car wont go crazy. I would think sport would be worst since it shifts at its highest point. I could be wrong. Anyone try this or got any ideas?

I agree with your assessment. Just dont condone it yet. Driving too fast!!

I drive in nothing but manual now. At least for the last 3 weeks. But I like to romp on it till 4500-5000 rpm, tap upshift, let off gas, then ease in and rev up again.

I have gotten to the point where I can bark 2nd and 3rd all the time with just easy cruising....if I choose . Once you figure it out, it is as fun as driving a full manual. So what if I wont win an races.....its a total blast. Some dude in a vette got on the side of me and holla'd he thinks its righteous bada$$ cars like that can be purchased with a stick.

nike, unless you do it in controlled conditions, you'll never know which one is best, gas millage is very hard to reproduce, that is why I am skeptical of any tune increased gas claims, unless they are done in controlled environments.

^ I agree with that statement.

yea I mean, I do all highway driving, 60 out of 70 miles a day is highway. I will put the cruise control on between 65-70, just wondering which would yield better results. Maybe I will be the first to figure this out. Picking up my car friday :)

If you're going to use cruise control, leave the car in Drive and just let it do its thing.

If you are in 6 gear, with Cruise control on, Gas Mileage will be the same in any mode, as you never come out of 6 gear. There may be some variation driving around town with Manual mode giving the worst and Sport giving next to worst, but as was mentioned above, it would be very difficult to replicate identical conditions during each test unless you are on a dyno.

or for 3 weeks i drove the car the same distance and everything, but that aint happening lol

In one year I will put on 17,000 miles just driving to work! So I am going to split time between the G8 and the Dodge Neon. Don't knock the Neon's, they are a terrific daily driver.

Yeah, I'm looking for another daily driver to split time with my G8. I have 4400 miles on it already.

How many miles on a single tank has everyone gotten? Like, whats the most you have done? 375?400?

In theory you could probably get 450. I bet as long as you're not an idiot about driving the entire time, you can get 400 pretty regularly.
A bud of mine says he gets between 23 and 25MPG doing the same route to and from work in their '95 camaro. In my '95 camaro, same engine & tranny, I get 30 or 31.
The difference? About 10 MPH...

I got #142 and if I wanted to drive for fuel economy I would drive my sisters Toyota Prius. I drive it like I stole it, I get the best mileage in traffic like 16.2 to 18 mpg. But with the CAI and that wonderful sound I not there to get 22 more like 9.6 avg
