Awesome video. I've never taken a car down the track, but I'm tempted to take mine out next Thursday night to our test and tune night. Any advise for a complete rookie?

LOL, no, because I'm a complete rookie. Well, I do have a couple thoughts. Don't go with a full tanks of gas, and take the golf clubs out of the trunk. :embarrassed:

I also want to add,

take out the 6 bags of clothing that you are goin to donate the next day out of the trunk

Nice runs Ray! I wish everyone could get in the 13s in stock trim!!!!

14.0x totally toys with your emotions.......

Its all about the launch. You'll have to practice (at the track since the surface is different that any street) to see how much gas you can give it from the start with out spinning the tires (turn ESP/Stabilitrak off so it doesn't take away too mcuh power), otherwise just keep it in sport mode and let the car do the shifting since everything I have seen says that is the quickest way to go.
Go on a weekly test and tune night when the atmosphere is more relaxed and you'll have a great time.

I'm running tomorrow night, I hope to get mine in the 13's. Hopefully my old drag days will pay off. Then on the dyno Saturday morning with my intake and h pipe.

I'll be heading to the track in an hour or so. Hopefully I'll put up better numbers. Props to everyone for posting their ideas. Charlie, I didn't get to cutting the panel today. The muffler shop that has the lift was closed when I went over there.
Got my compressor all charged up, and have someone going with me to hang onto it.

It wasn't a good day. Temp was 80 and humidity was 55 percent. I did do better than my previous run though.
13.89
13.91
14.04 hot lapped.

G8 Ray: Are you still completely stock? If so, 13.89 is not that bad. What was you MPH & 60' times on that run. (curious).

Test & tune nights at Stanton, MI are on Wednesdays, so I'm going to have to plan a trip in the next couple of weeks.

No, I'm not stock. Time to change my sig I guess.

Ray you need to work on your 60' but yeah the DA was in the hole yesterday 80 degrees and high humidity is not good racing weather.

G8 Ray

Da was 2232. Thanks to the guys showing us how to check that. Personally I think ORP is not a good track. I might try Muncie next week. Going to rain there today.
I still need a TCM tune Chris.

Are you crossing in 3rd gear or 4th ?

Are you crossing in 3rd gear or 4th ?

Mike, I think this is a problem for most of the people that are struggling with hitting mid to low 13s. I figured this out on a back road before I hit the strip. If they do this and a have a trans tune I just cant see people not running mid 13s. Charlie

So what gear did you cross in ? You can use sport mode in manual to cross in 3rd . It can make about 3 tenths and 2-3 mph difference crossing in 3rd gear than shifting into 4th .

G8 Ray
06-26-2008, 07:32 AM
I was crossing in 3rd. I also did one in 4th as I tried auto as well. My times were close.
I'm pretty sure DA and track conditions had a lot to do with it. Well, that and torque management.

I was in m3 mode. I had tried to let it do its thing in sport mode practicing, but the dashawk said it was faster holding 3rd gear and it was. Charlie

Hey GRRRR8 I would have to see your time slip for that 12.7 you ran because most of the G8 are running the upper 13s . No way a tune would knock off a full second + .

U are correct! There is no way a TUNE only can get U a low 13 second pass:slap:. Now if U read all my posts and the PM I sent U I think U will see it was easier then U think. MissnaySimon ran 13.40 BONE STOCK. But I guess its just not even imaginable to pick up .7 tenths for All the time and R&D I did. Yes I have nothing better to do at 41 years old then to instill false hopes in people.:slap: Charlie

I believe you Charlie.
BTW: When you run at the track do you do a burnout? I know houston always preps there track really nice so I was just wondering if you were hooking without doing a burnout or if you still had to warm up the tires to hook.

No burn out. Went around water box and just dry hopped the tires 2 times and letter rip.:driving: Charlie

I bettered my time again. still not what I want, but I'm having 60 ft troubles. LOL
60' 2.200
330 5.968
1/8 9.041

1000 11.642
1/4 13.810
mph 103.40

After some practice , you should be able to bring your 60 foot time down in the 2.0's , then you will shave another 3-4 tenths of your 1/4 mile time as well . I ran a 13.4 @105mph with just New Era Intake and custom tune , my 60 foot time was 2.08 . If you cut that same 60 foot time , you will be right around there . I didn't do any track tricks like Grrrr8 did either .

A little fine tuning between the right foot and the gas pedal and you will get it. Excellent for only the 3rd time driving down a drag strip in your life. I think I will develope the GRRRR8 gas pedal mod next. :driving:

Headers, cam and lifters with valve springs, AFM/DOD delete, ported intake, maybe a little head work, and a torque converter. I am buying the wife things and she has the car today so when this all happens I can be forgiven, well not forgiven, but maybe the bitchin wont last as long. I am still seeking sponsorship. Any takers? Tax deductable, great for advertising, or all members send $1 for the cause. LOL Charlie

I am in okc and I have ran a 14.34 at 100mph in the 1\4. I had a reaction time of .073 and still ran a 14.40 at a 100 mph. Even though I want to get in the 13's I just can't get it in stock form. I am getting a tune by s.w.Tuning up here in town and going to see if that knocks some more time off. Good thing about the car is I have had no stock gt mustangs beat me yet.

Blknight, what was your 60ft time? Did u cross finish line in 3rd or 4th gear. These 2 questions are probably the reason u did not hit 13s.

I think that must be the slowest time posted. I'd like to know what temp it was when you raced. How much ethanol is in your gas?

GRRRR8
07-06-2008, 10:23 AM
Gas does make a difference. My wife accidentally put Shell supreme in the car about 3 weeks ago, what a pig! Way to much ethanol. I guess I should let her out of the shed now and feed her. LOL

Stingpac

Exxon 93 only. When I lived I GA I really liked BP 93. Man my Mach 1 ran like a raped ape on that gas. I could not believe the consistant difference in the car on that fuel.

i had the TCM off, regular drive mode, stock tire pressure, 3/4 tank of gas, held the RPM's around 1,200, then just floored it. You dont have to be an expert to figure out how to race these cars. they hook up very good off the line. no wheel spin or nothing. all depends on weather.

That's the Torque Management in the TCM.

Track prep has a lot to do with it. The ability to floor from a dead stop is not possible for everyone, stock or not.

I hope to be experimenting with the HP tuner to see what gains I can personally get with my extra ecm. After a lot of data-logging I can see a few areas I would like to tweak to maximize for the ongoing changes I keep doing without bothering VMS all the time. I just have done too much drivability and know that there is more to be had safely.

Mine spins like crazy if I try that. Maybe I need more gas. LOL
I'm not an expert, I've proven that.
