Has anyone gotten a deal when renewing with OnStar ?

The regular price for Safe & Sound package is $289 Cdn + taxes.
http://www.onstar.com/canada_english/jsp/plans/index.jsp

I have read that some people in the US have managed to get a better deal than the listed price.

No deals yet but like XM radio may be less then 1/2 if you really fight for it. But thats a maybe.

I personally don't think I will get it. Around $120 a year maybe. But to date with the free stuff I have yet to use it in the 5 months I have owned the car.

Thats just over $27 a month. And I barely even pay that much for my alarm for my house. And I use that every day.

So until they drastically reduce it I won't even touch it.

In the past I have been able to get better pricing out of them by calling, asking for info on renewing then telling them that I'd like to, but the price was out of my budget. They usually come back with a better offer. I think on my wife's Acadia I'm paying something like $200 Cdn + taxes for Safe & Sound.

I just called this morning to renew or cancel my OnStar subscription this morning.

OnStar Plans (http://www.onstar.com/canada_english/jsp/plans/index.jsp)

I 1st connected to the dept to renew my subscription.
But they would not give me any deal on the Safe & Sound annual plan for $289 Cdn + taxes.

& only mentioned there was a promo on the Directions & Connection annual plan for (IIRC) $360 Cdn + taxes (regularly $438 Cdn).

So, she transferred me to the cancellation dept.
I explained again...
I would like to renew the Safe & Sound annual plan; but not at $289 Cdn + taxes.
I felt that was too expensive for me.
When I mainly wanted it for the stolen vehicle tracking.
& Boomerang Tracking was better & cheaper (after the install cost) at under $200 Cdn/year + taxes.
Boomerang Tracking vs OnStar Tracking ? (http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13006)

All of a sudden there was a "Promo" that the other rep didn't know about.
I can get it for at $16.95/month or $198.50/year + taxes.
& I can give you 2-months for free.

After telling her, 'I'll go for it'.
She threw in Directions for 6-months for free.

In the end it costed me $198.50 Cdn/year + taxes.
A savings of $90.50.
2-months for free.
6-months of Directions for free.
:D

All in the name of not losing a customer... they're betting on "many more years" of recurring payments.

Nice job.

I like getting transferred to the 'cancellation specialists' ... it's fun in that they try and validate your perceived value in the product or service, and do their best to change your mind. Then they do it again and again, all day long.

We got 12.95/mo for extending out our trailblazer's onstar when I called to cancel my g8's auto-recurring payment on my g8's first birthday. I didn't even ask for a discount on the TB but they gave it anyways. Not like I'm complaining.... :driving:

My first year freebie is up at the end of April (bought the car April 30, 2009). Got a letter in the mail saying they're continuing it by charging my credit card $40 a month (funny, I don't recall giving them authorization...)

Anyway, last week I called to cancel and they offered me $18 a month for the basic package (Safe and Sound?) I still said no. Fact is I don't drive the car as much as I did six months ago and I still have my CAA membership. CSR said thanks and hopes I come back in the future. That was it.

I think my next project will be to swap out the OnStar for BluStar.

Well I have had the GT for 11 months now and I got the renewal offer from ONstar for my premium package.

I don't use the Directions at all cause I have the Alpine GPS and the IPhone GPS so the onstar version is useless to me. And I was not too keen on the $25.00 per month payments on the safe and security package.

So I called today to cancel the whole thing and the woman on the other end asked me the traditional "WHY"?

I told her my reasons and right away she offered me the Basic Package for $16.00!

I said "Sure" I will take it for that.

They are not interested in loosing any customers at this point I think, with the US economy in the dumpster.

So what is the "Basic" package and what's it not got that the Safe & Sound package has?

Thx

That is the Safe and Sound package. The upgraded package is the Directions and Connections which includes the Safe and Sound Package as well.

Basic is Safe and Sound Package.

I just called OnStar to advise them how disappointed I was that I get to find out from friends on the internet that I'm paying waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for their service. She immediately told me that they "just got an email this week" with the new Canadian Safe and Sound pkg rate of $16.95/mth (+ tax) or $198/yr (+ tax). And she advised me that if any of my friends are paying more, they should call in and get the new reduced rate!!!!!!!

Called Onstar today and got the 198/year deal. No hassle or threat of cancelling, just told them I've heard of people getting this deal.

Just had my basic Onstar package extened for $17.80 a month for up to 1 year. They were going to charge me $24.95 a month, but I asked about any specials. The service provider also extended my onstar hands free calling minutes for 1 year.
