I've thought about it but the costs would be significant.
Partial list of items needed:
Transmission
Clutch assembly (flywheel, pressure plate, friction disc, slave, master and lines)
Bell housing
clutch pedal
shifter and linkage (and shifter boot)

Potential items:
new driveshaft (depending on length of manual transmission)
most likely need a tune of some sort to make the ECM and gages work.
new rear gear (depending on the transmission)

Good luck though

If I were you I would get the GXP clutch pedal and clutch cylinder assembly as well as the slave cylinder assembly since they were engineered for left hand drive, or you could source the parts for a left hand drive market if they had the V6 available with the manual trans.

There may be a problem with the engine as well as manual equipped engines used to have a pilot bushing in the rear of the crankshaft, I don't know if that is still the case.

I think it would be easier to wait until someone cracks up a base camaro and pull the engine, trans, clutch, computer, etc. out of it and put it in your G8!

well when i used to be 240SX involved it was as simple as unbolting the auto trans and putting the manual trans.. and clutch, pedal, etc.. nothing to hard at all

My car is an SV6 and has a 6 speed manual. It's GREAT !!!! Apparently it's just not worth changing from auto to manual (so I read in an advice column).

why not.. mannnnn
i would buy a project car.. but i rather keep my v6.. i love it for some strange reason

Don't forget that these cars come with "anti launch" technology. Or something like that. Basically you can't launch it in first gear. :(

I think he's talking from a financial perspective. Its more cost effective to trade an auto car for a manual car rather than do the conversion but since we don't have the manual version available a conversion is the only way.

You'd have to get a full parts list then contact JHP or a Holden dealer in Aus and see if you can order everything at once. If you do that shipping would be a lot cheaper than if you order pieces one at a time.

Actually, even though I drive in heavy traffic every day, I'm glad my car is manual, otherwise I'd probably have enough speeding tickets to wallpaper my house. :)

I wish I could afford this lol, as for now I'm stuck just using manual mode with my automatic..

You might be better off just buying all the parts for a GXP transmission. It should bolt right up. I've actually thought about this for after I get a turbo put on my V6, I'll need a beefier transmission to deal with the extra power.

What all is involved in actually swapping an automatic for a manual transmission? I've always wondered if it would be possible to swap out since they didn't offer a manual when I bought my car. The new V6 Camaro has a six speed, why not just snag one of those?

With the additional power of a turbo or SC that may work but the gear ratios in the GXP trans with a stock V6 would be awfully slow.

I've done a lot of searching about swapping a manual transmission into a G8 GT. Found nothing, but other people wonder about the same thing. It's such a shame the G8 GT didn't have a manual, I would have bought one when they came out. Now, I'm looking at a used 128i bimmer.

Whats wrong with manual mode?
I punched mine down into 3rd today and blasted by a Volvo today like nobody's business.

Well, i hope you beat a Volvo. But that's not the point, there's something about being in control of the interaction between the engine and driving wheels, that only a manual transmission provides. It's the process; lifting of the throttle, disconnecting the engine, selecting the right gear, that involves me in the driving experience in a way an automatic new could. Some don't like that level of involvement, and that's ok. I just hope the car makers understand those that do!

They are getting few and far between my friend!

I am on my second car with a manual option. The majority of my 38 years behind the wheel have been with manuals. And the strangest thing is that I don't miss the clutch at all. Maybe the bad left knee is the reason :driving:

Yeah, well I would also have to get an aftermarket axle/diff/drive shaft to deal with the extra power. I could have the diff geared how I want. This build is getting expensive :driving:

man you where not willing to even tune your car so forget about the tranny idea...

With money anything is possible. Practicality is another story. If you are really serious about this then I would get something that was made here in the US or at least in the Americas to make sure you have an ample supply of parts readily available. This idea of an OZ manual is a good one but you will have the only one in the US. And the camaro thing someone mentioned previously maybe your best way to go. ( If it bolts up to our V6) However this may just cost more then a new car when its all said and done. Good luck what ever you do.

i want to get a tune still but i rather have more performance parts before it.. i rather wait..

r33pwrd
02-24-2010, 01:20 PM
but what "performace" parts can you get? An intake is what 300 bucks? Go get a tune and show these V6 owners how to go faster! an intake, UD pulley and a tune you car would actually pick up some serious #'s a manual tranny will cost you what 5K and get you little to nothing.

yea im working on a UD Pulley have a intake just need a xpipe and axle backs.. ill talk to you after

cool man... I think talking tanny when you have a stock intake is the wrong way to tackle it :)

Like i said before an intake and tune (with UD) will make a big difference for you. Exhaust IMO is a "sound mod" not a peformace mod for the most part. But sound mods are not a bad thing!

no i was thinking b/c the xpipe is going to be better.. saginaw on this forum said he felt better acceleration..
but if thats the case ill talk to you next month

possible but I have yet to see a car really pick up much HP from an exhaust. (unless headers)

hazer396
02-24-2010, 09:54 PM
is it possible to make my own headers? lol... they dont make headers for the v6..
and did u have a S14 or S13?
