: Pontiac's Vehicle Locator Observations
Ajava 05-18-2008, 11:18 AM Went on the page about 3 1/2 weeks ago, (4/27 to be exact) and nearly every car that was on there is still there today. There has been very little movement and yet the dealers are still holding fast on the $1,000 - $3,000 price adjustments. Out of the 25 that were there initially, 22 were still there. Mind you this is all within a 25-30 mile radius. This doesn't seem to be a great demand in my book. These cars are sitting on lots and dealers are paying for the floorplans but don't want to move vehicles because they are holding out for the big sale. This is in a major metro area and not in the boonies. Anyone else see this happening?
On another note: the dealer that I've bought two Yukon Denali XL's from, and has treated me VERY well, doesn't have any GT's but has 3 G8 V-6's......wonder it he could get me the car I want? Anyone had a dealer willing to get you the car you wanted?

Call Sy at Jim Culligan in Buffalo. I know this is a 7 hour drive for you, but you will get the MSRP and be treated very well. They gave me almost KBB trade-in value on my 2004 Yukon Denali. Tell him I sent you.

GeorgeInNePa 05-18-2008, 11:32 AM The dealerships in Northeastern Pa, around Scranton, are selling for MSRP.
I bought mine at R.J. Burne in Scranton.
Give them a call, ask for Phil Svoboda.
HokieSean24 05-18-2008, 11:37 AM I just called a dealer about 90 minutes from my house, literally 20 min ago. He said MSRP plus $5k. I said NO WAY!!
He called me back 5 min later, MSRP and I can get 1k off for owning a car that is a 1999 or newer?!?!
macgto 05-18-2008, 11:39 AM I purshased mine from Faulkner in Harrisburg, @ MSRP - $1500 Private offer GM incentive.
I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what the locater is telling you. Before I bought mine, I looked using the locater and no one had a GT, all that was showing up was V6s. So I called a few dealers, and all of them, including the one's that were not showing any, all had GTs on the lot.
I have found most of the dealers around here can't keep the GTs on the lot cause they sell fast.

h3llphyre 05-18-2008, 12:17 PM I got MSRP - $1000 GM Loyalty on my car. They tried to get me on $5000 over MSRP, so I walked and they stopped me.
buzzard31581 05-18-2008, 12:31 PM The locator isn't very good and isn't updated very often. I was looking for a red one with the premium package (onyx/red leather interior) and the sport package. I used the locator for a couple of weeks to no avail.
Last Monday morning I finally found one in my area. I kept an eye on it for the next couple days to make sure it was still there. I finally had a chance to get to the dealer on Wednesday. I called the dealer that evening while I was on my way there. They said the car had just rolled off the truck half an hour before I called. So, the car was on the locator three days before the dealer even had the car.
I purchased it Wednesday night and then went back on Thursday and picked it up. The car is still showing up on the locator and it's now Sunday.
Long story short, don't put too much stock in what the locator is telling you. Just because it says a dealer has a certain car doesn't mean it's on their lot yet or that they haven't already sold it.
MissNaySimon 05-18-2008, 12:54 PM Just order an '09. Dealers can't mark up anything ordered from factory since you basically eliminate them as middle man.
Don't settle and get a V6 either.

There's a snowballs chance in hell that that's going to happen.
I went to three different dealers last week and they all had what was listed on the locator when I went to kick the tires. Go figure.
HokieSean24 05-18-2008, 08:01 PM I have the one I test drove today for invoice minus the $1000 incentive for owning a car newer than 1999 (even though I am not trading it on the G8). Weirdest incentive I have ever heard of, I dont get it...

Going to have to explain what product or industry you were thinking of when you posted this.

The idea is: if you're driving a car that is newer than 99 and NOT a Pontiac - to BUY a Pontiac. It's called a "Conquest" rebate.
Blackdevil77 05-18-2008, 09:50 PM only two of the dealers around me were doing mark-ups. Every other dealer was MSRP. The two mark-ups were no where near 5k. they were all 1k
Is this locater on a website? I would love to know if there is a GT near me.

Pontiac.com, left hand side near the bottom. Click and fill out the choices. Good hunting!:wink2:
BLACK08G8GT 05-18-2008, 11:02 PM yeah i wouldnt trust the site either. said there was around 30 near me in fact there were only around 5 within 50 miles of me so thats my story. its worth hunting one down i love mine no regrets
Slizzo 05-19-2008, 07:23 AM Takes a while for purchased vehicles to be taken off the site. It grabs data from the main GM vehicle locater if I'm not mistaken...
Heli411 05-19-2008, 05:17 PM What about a vehicle inbound on a truck... how could you possibly track that? Will it show in the dealer's inventory before it gets there?
chiefpontiac 05-19-2008, 06:18 PM Yes, inbound cars appear in the locator prior to arrival. I've seen it happen locally. Tracking codes and status in shipment is something the dealer should be able to log in and retrieve on a daily basis.

Mine was invoiced to dealer for dealer inventory on April 15th and arrived at dealer on May 8th. I picked it up on May 14th. It never showed up on the Pontiac locator but the dealer knew through his district manager where the vehicle was enroute. I was there the night the truck dropped it off.

After that long a wait, I think I would have escorted the truck to the dealer to make sure it really got there!:wink2:
