: My take on debadging
OrangeTiger 05-19-2008, 04:58 PM Everyone is trying different things, it seems like. Here is my debadging.
Took everything off of rear except G8. Took GM quares off of sides. Took my GT from the back, bough another one and put on sides under side lights.
I think the GT looks like it belongs on the side, but I'm still looking for some 6.0L badges that I like.

gonefly 05-19-2008, 06:33 PM just a thought. when i get my 2009 i plan on debadging everything. emblems on the back (all) and the pontiac emblem on the front. then preceeding to place the 6.0 emblem from the GTO on the bottom of the front fenders. thats my take on debadging.
h3llphyre 05-19-2008, 07:18 PM Posted in the color thread, but has anyone considered moving the Pontiac to the bottom left of the trunk lid and the G8 GT to the bottom right, like the Calais?
GETGONE 05-19-2008, 08:13 PM The GT on the sides looks like you are trying to rip off a Mustang. If I were to put anything on the sides, it would be the 6.0L V8 badges from the Holdens.
VENOM 05-19-2008, 09:56 PM the only prob i see with the GT on the side, is the car rakes a bit and the lines on the car run downwards almost on an angle and your GT badges are perfectly straight. Looks different though.
If you go on eBay, they have a really nice set of emblems for the G8. They look really nice
liquidred1 05-19-2008, 10:27 PM im considering removing all the badges on the back and the gm's on the side then get the holden v8 badges and placing one on each side of the car where ORANGETIGER did but move them all the way to the bottom and centered (of course). :)
Ausstar 05-20-2008, 12:05 AM yeah the GT is in the wrong spot IMHO. it should be lower.
Also less is more.

GXPaycheck 05-20-2008, 08:58 AM 2 dumb questions:
1) How do you get the badges off?
2) How do you adhere them to the new location?
Thanx!

:search: Decal Removal. You'll have to get some double stick tape to put them back on I believe.
OrangeTiger 05-20-2008, 09:46 AM Once I had new tape on, I used packing tape on the finished side, so I could move them around. Believe me I tried them 30 places. I agree, the side light canters up a bit, I measured 8 1/4" up from the bottom (not counting the side skirts) Mine are centered in the black area of the side light. When I tried them lower, I centered on the actual fender/door opening itself. With it close to the sidelight, I thought it looked weird centered on the fender, you noticed the sidelight too much.
When you are standing looking at the whole car, the badges lookbetter lever with the bottom of the car, imo. Anyway, that's why we all mod, to each his own.
Once I find some 6.0's I like, the GT's will disappear comepletely I think.
You can get a 25' roll of the 3m emblem tape at Atuzone for $5 or so. I take the badges off with fishing line, remove the old tape, put on new, trim with a razor blade, and start over.
Thanks for feedback.

Well, I did debadging last weekend and took some pics on how to do it. There was a thread on this out there somewhere that I read which is where I learned how to do it.
Take a hair dryer and some fishing line. Put the hair dryer about 1" from the badge you are removing. Let it run on high for about 45 sec to 1 minute.

Take the fishing line and run it back and forth behind the badge....you will essentially saw off the logo. Careful!! ITS HOT!

What is left is residual adhesive. This I was able remove by grabbing a corner with my thumb and finger and peeling away.

The rest I was able to rub off with my thumb and I buffed the remaining little stuff off with a clean cloth. (Some people have used goo gone, but I did not need to) Looks great, took about 30 min to do the GM logos on the side, the pontiac arrowhead on the trunk and the "pontiac" on the trunk. Someone recomended getting a stool to sit on while you do this, great advice :) Hope this helps to anyone debadging. I think it makes the car look very clean and unique. I am not at all ashamed of Pontiac or GM, I am extremely proud to drive this car. I just like the cleaner look. Wish I had an "after" pic, but the camera ran out of batteries.
Mike P 05-21-2008, 01:08 AM Drglock Nice pictures! I'm going to remove my GM square chicklet badges too, ASAP.
I think I'm going to change around the badges on the trunk. I want the "G8" on the left side & the "GT" on the right. The "Pontiac" I want to move to the small strip under the license plate. :)
I think that will look pretty good............

Hahah, I was totally thinkng the same thing. It should Be G8.......GT. I just didnt feel like re-sticking them on so I left it. I do like the thought about maybe doing a 6.0L side badge by the vent or something. I will wait to see what some people have done to see how it looks. What I CANT wait for are the roto-fab Engine and radiator covers! They really sport up the engine compartment. I will prolly be one of the first to order :)
