: Need Some Questions Answered
VENOM 05-20-2008, 09:11 AM Hi everyone,
Just got my G8 on Sat and got some questions I was hopin you could answer.
1. Can the DOD be setup to show during regular driving mode or only in engineering mode? Would be nice to see all the time if its active or deactive.
2. Remote start - Why does the air come on full blast? Can I set it so that the heat comes on and the heated seats turn on? In winter, I would like to remote start the car, then get in it nice and warm with the seats hot and the windshield defrosted.
3. Has anyone taken their car to the "very low" fuel light? I read in manuel there is "low fuel" and then a light for "very low" fuel.
Thanks everyone!
SRG963 05-20-2008, 09:15 AM 1. No
2. Set to come on at 73 degrees. It will turn on the heat/ac depending on the outside temp. No auto seat heater :(
3. I believe you run out of gas soon after the "very low fuel" indicator light turns on :)
and yes, someone started out that way on a test drive, they ran out of gas soon after leaving the lot.
GETGONE 05-20-2008, 09:16 AM I believe the DOD is only shown in engineering mode. I wish it would show in regular mode too.
Remote start auto heats or cools the car depending on the sensors. It detects outside temp, inside temp and the solar sensor and turns on the heat or air as necessary to get the inside to 73 degrees. Seat heaters are manual on/off only.
I wouldn't dare try to run the tank to very low fuel level. Good way to overheat the fuel pump and burn it up quickly since it uses the fuel to help cool it off.
VENOM 05-20-2008, 09:56 AM if you turn your heated seats on and then turn the car off, next time you start the car will the seats be on? i may have to try this out if no one knows the answer
lonewolfz28 05-20-2008, 09:57 AM I know the "Low Fuel" comes on when the car determines you are under 50 mi of range remaining. I've driven another 20-30 miles past that a couple times and didn't see the "Very Low Fuel" warning...which is a good thing I guess.:wink2:

Yeah, let us know if it works. I'm thinking it won't, but it would be cool if it did.

No, it's like the rear defrost. It activates a timer circuit and is only a momentary switch, not an on off switch.
VENOM 05-20-2008, 10:17 AM thats gay they dont stay on. wtf gm
GETGONE 05-20-2008, 10:18 AM Why would they? They're not meant to be an always on item. I don't think they're that way in any car.
SRG963 05-20-2008, 10:23 AM Just have your trunk monkey hop up in the front seat and turn the heat on for you :wink2:
speeder 05-20-2008, 10:46 AM if you turn your heated seats on and then turn the car off, next time you start the car will the seats be on? i may have to try this out if no one knows the answer
When you use the remote start feature it only starts the car and activates the heat or a/c to achieve an inside temperature of 73 degrees. No other features or accessaries are turned on, i.e. radio, power ports, seat heaters, dash instruments, dash lights, etc. Remote start only starts the motor and turns on the Parking Lights.
Zaphod B 05-20-2008, 11:04 AM I'lll just confirm what others have said:
-- You can only view DoD in engineering mode
-- After a remote start the HVAC system goes to full AUTO mode with a target temp of 73F. As soon as you turn the key on, the HVAC will revert to whatever setting you had it on when you turned the car off.
-- I've only taken mine to the "low fuel" indication, and was not aware that you get anything further. Even at the low fuel indication the DIC will no longer estimate a remaining range, although it seems that there are a couple of gallons left - but best to get to a gas station ASAP.
VENOM 05-20-2008, 11:22 AM In the manuel it shows like the fuel pump icon full when your are "low" on fuel. Once you get to "very low" the fuel pump is empty and your car will be shortly as well lol

:bs:
In my fiancée's Acura TSX the heated seats are controlled by a mechanical three way toggle switch: low, off, high. You can drive around all day long with the heated seats turned on if you want. I think having a timed switch for this is stupid too. Sounds like they did this so that they wouldn't have to regulate the temperature of the seat heaters over long periods of time.
SRG963 05-20-2008, 11:47 AM It's not a Cadillac, it's a Pontiac. Some Cadillacs do have the feature to turn on the seat heat/coolers along with the HVAC on remote start I believe.
It would be nice to have this option on our G8 as well, I find myself using them all the time.
theun4gven 05-20-2008, 12:52 PM I would absolutely love a seat cooler. Black leather in the Florida sun, even with tinting and a sun shade, can get a little hot.
LoveMyGT 05-20-2008, 01:10 PM I just bought my G8 GT( V-8) and I am a bit confused about what kind of gas I am suppost to put in it??? Any help would be appreciated:)
speeder 05-20-2008, 01:35 PM 87 octane is the minimum required.

The seat coolers are very nice. I had them in my 04 DTS and used them all the time. I used the heat so much, I burnt it up ($350 to fix). It's a item that is only covered by the bumper to bumper warranty, (extended GMPP major guard excludes this item) so I didn't have it fixed.
With black seats, coolers should be a option IMO. I'd pay for them.
Rue_G8GT 05-20-2008, 02:07 PM I would absolutely love a seat cooler. Black leather in the Florida sun, even with tinting and a sun shade, can get a little hot.I test drove a Lincoln Zephyr with cooled front seats last year and OMG I fell in love with those seats especially since it was hot that day. I first thought that cooled seating was a stupid option until I saw first hand and now I think that every car with leather seats should have that option. Lol!
theun4gven 05-20-2008, 02:56 PM I'm really considering having some Katzkins installed with the cooling option because I've seen some of their work and it's top notch, but it would be tough to fork over the cash when the black/onyx I have right now is so nice.

If it was possible to do it I would probably get the shop who is doing the upholstery new for my Mustang to do it on the G8 if it isn't too expensive. Wouldn't even be hard to convince my wife because she loved the cooled seats as well. Lol!
Ausstar 05-20-2008, 06:22 PM its one thing I dont liek about this car. You dont get to see how many actual miles you have left on the tank. My GTO told me axactly how many miles I had left. The G8 just says low fuel.
But whatever. I like to fill up before it even reaches the low light.
neelnug 05-20-2008, 07:29 PM Very low fuel means you are out. I've seen it... and I ran out. The dealer let me take a quick test drive of the car right off the truck. I stayed in the parking lot of the dealer. It ran out after one lap. The dealer was pissed because the car had less then 1 gallon in the tank. (the factory is supposed to put enough in to get to a has station)

Miles left is in the DIC. Or were you looking for something else and I am misinterpreting?

Does MTE (miles to empty) show under normal operation or only in engineering mode?
Had a 6000STE with fighter plane dashdoard (digital and bars for fuel) I always wondered what would happen if the last fuela bar disappeared - found out, light went out as last drop of fuel was injected and engine shut down.:(
VENOM 05-21-2008, 10:00 AM the DIC just gives you a range to go. Engineering mode says I only got 3 gallons of gas left but the fuel light hasnt come on and I am still above a quarter. When full, the gas gauge barely moves. Once it gets to half it starts droppin like a rock
