I hear that! I usually lease, but I think I'm going to buy this G8 V8. Who knows what will be available 3 years after I get into it......

Oh well here's hoping for a twin turbo SIDI 3.6L in 2010 then. :D

I thought it was mentioned somewhere that the G8 was gonna be built in Aussie for 2 model years then end up being built in Canada.Maybe on a new platform.
Ill look for the link i know i read it somewhere

It has been assumed as much, to help fill Oshawa plant capacity which is greater than the sum of Camaro and new Impala. But AFAIK tere has been no official statement as such. There is also no reason that poroduction could not continue from Oz.

2 years on a platform is a mighty short time, and I don't think it would put GM in a position to recover the tooling costs for the Zeta 1 architecture. Unless the cost to change the car over to Zeta-2 are minimal, I would bet the US would have to do without a V8 for a few years after 2010. Since the number of v8 G8's is going to be small to begin with, I doubt it would make financial sense to move away from the Zeta-1 just for the (relatively) limited number of cars affected.

My guess is that this will have less of an effect on the possibility of a GXP in 09 than the current Green/Milage push in congress.

Just my 2 cents worth.

It will be interesting to see what happens

What I gathered was that the Zeta-1 and Zeta-2 architectures are very, very similar, but that the Zeta-2 has a little more flexibility when it comes to moving the wheelbase, allowing for the room in the front end to pass crash regulations. I'm sure GM just tweaked it enough to pass crash regs, so that there is very little difference. We shall see though...

Hopefully you are right. Wouldn't they still have to tweak the sheetmetal though?

That would allow GM to keep a fresh face on the car. You know how the American buying public is. They want a new look every couple of years. :whine:

That would suck. Perfect timing. I'm going to be in the market in late 2009/early 2010, so if no V8 is available and production is moved outside Australia, that would dampen my enthusiasm significantly.

Who gives a **** about bumpers? What a load of crap. Honestly...
