Okay so I've seen a bunch of information over a handful of threads. I've found the wheels I want and I just need to get definitive answers on the TPMS. I'd like to resell my stock 18's so I want to keep them in tact with their sensors.

What's the GM P/N for the TPMS sensor for this car? And where's the best place to get them?
What needs to be done to the computer when new wheels with new sensors are put in to prevent from throwing codes?

Thanks for the help!

BTW I've decided on this wheel from raceline wheels.

I like that wheel too. Sorry I wasn't more helpful. :)

Go to any decent tire place, they should have generic TPMS sensors and know the process for calibrating them. I believe TPMS is manditory on all 2008+ cars.

Why not keep the factory sensors and make whoever buys the wheels worry about getting new sensors? Read your owners manual, it gives the procedure for resetting the sensors if you rotate or change wheels/tires. I'll be putting the factory 19" tires and sensors on my new wheels when they show up.

1. TPMS - You need four obviously and if you do not want to reuse the stock ones, these are what Tire Rack recommends:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/TPMSServlet?qty=4&type=W&wheelPartNum=50851930211115MG&sortCode=91385&autoMake=Pontiac&autoModel=G8+GT&autoYear=2008&autoModClar=

2. Check and see if you need centering rings.

3. Check with your wheel dealer and see if you need new lug nuts.

I had a tpms inop light come on mine and took it to the dealer. They reset everything, re-programmed everything and even did the tcm update spoke of elsewhere on this site. Now the dealer I took mine too said that any time you rotated or changed anything you should bring it back to the dealer and let them re-program it. My dealer said they would never charge or question something like that. So unless you have a crappy dealer or just would rather trust tire rack or discount tire, let your dealer do the work.

A dealer NOT charge for something???? I find that VERY hard to believe! The pressure sensor reset is easy. It's outlined in the owners manual. I forget what you do to invoke it but basically it tells you which tire to go to and either inflate or deflate it so the car can detect that sensor's position. You do this for each tire as it tells you to. It then learns the sensors positions and then all is well. I find there are very few knowledgeable dealers and service departments out there. I usually know more about the vehicle than they do.

i love the rims, very nice. besides that comment, i am useless with wheel info. all i know bout tires is they need air, to be balanced, and you put the rubber tire over the rim.

Because that would cost maybe $10 per wheel to dismantle and reinstall - the sensors are inside the wheel and cannot be removed or installed with tire on rim. BTW each sensor costs something like $56.39 msrp. However shop around, even usually great-priced TR is quoting $236 for a set of sensors installed with otherwise free mount and balance. And sets of 4 have been spotted on ebay for $55 per set.

The manual WILL specify whether deflating each tire in turn going around teh car is necessary procedure or if GM has caught up to Honda where no action is necessary - recalibration is automatic.
