: Road Course/Auto-X: Rear Gears

I'm setting my car up for track days (road course/Auto-X) and was wondering what effect the rear gear ratio has on things. The GT has a 2.92 rear gear, while the GXP (auto) has a 3.27. How do the rear gear ratio effect things on? Would there be a benefit to having the shorter gears? Any downsides? Are any of the A6 GXP folks finding themselves wishing they had taller gears?

My biggest concern is effecting gear selection and if the shorter gears would cause me to shift more frequently because I'm hitting the rev-limiter. For example: If I could stay in 2nd for an Auto-X with the 2.92 gears... but would have to shift to 3rd with 3.27 gears.

Moving to a set of 3.27 gears doesn't seem like it would be too extreme for my daily driver... and would help improve acceleration and 1/4 mile times. I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot on a road course/Auto-X.

Hope this helps, it's based on Honda's but you may be able to plug in our gears as well.
