Has anyone gotten the KEY personalizations to work? This is where you can program different Radio Station pre-sets to be active with a specific key.

I've tried this several times, and can't get it to work. Each time I come back to a car with a different key, the presets are just the ones I had set the last time I was in the car, and not the ones I programmed when using this specfic key.

Not sure if this is clear, but perhaps someone can comment on what can and can not be "Personalized" and the correct procedure to do it.

Make sure the key is in the ignition when your doing it, it effects mirrors, radio, air con, electric seat posistion etc etc.

Check! Procedure done with key in ignition.
Settings are not retained when the other key is used.
What's the trick to make it happen?
(On a side note, I think you are right that Climate controls are part of the personalization, but I didn't come accross anything that said seat position was part of this)

Is this in the manual somewhere? I have not heard of this being a feature on G8s.

The book says that you have to lock the door with your remote, then she has to unlock the door with her remote.

I thought I tried that but it didn't work. I know I hit unlock with hers. Maybe I forgot to hit lock with mine after I was done. I wish this car had memory seats/mirrors. My wife is short and I'm 6'. I always bash my knees trying to get in and out to move the car around and don't feel like trying to find where she had it at.

Correct. The manual says that it is for stereo, DIC and climate control settings. The customization doesn't do anything for seats and mirrors.

BUMP! Has anyone been able to get the personalization to work successfully? I'm curious to know if their is a secret to getting this to work, or is the feature broken.

YES. Its in the manual.

And like other GM products that have key personalization, hitting the unlock button on the key should change all affected settings (DIC, stereo, and climate control (did a little reading on the Holdens, too)) to those associated with that key number. If that's not working, I would have the dealer check the car.

Still don't see anyone say that they've gotten this to work in the G8. I'd like to know if it works for other folks or not, before I take a day off of work to go to the stealership.

I haven't had time to mess with it again to see if it works. Hopefully this weekend.

I once had a Saab that did the mirror dip for reverse. Most useful feature ever, apart from its backup sensors (and, well, the 3-position memory seating). It's criminal that such a large car could be sold without them nowadays.

BUMP. Time to get this thread going again now that we have a bunch of new G8 owners on the board. Has anyone ever successfully programmed two sets of radio presets... one for each key, as described in the owners manual?

I have tried various combinations of hitting LOCK after programming the presets and UNLOCK before programming, and nothing will make the presets associate with the key. I always end up with the same presets that I just programmed with the previous key.

If you have gotten this to work, let me know your procedure, and be sure to specify if you have an '08 or '09.

I even reprogrammed the keys thru the DIC thinking that might be it.

LOL! They didn't change it in the 09 manual either!

I almost put that in my last post saying I bet the marketers said let's tell em it's in there and the engineers on the day they loaded them onto the boat said.... "You told them what?!"

I too have had no sucess and maybe I read this incorrectly, but aren't you able to program the lights to come on when you approach the car with fob in pocket?

I had all that crap on my 2000 Bonnie SSEi. Dont miss it a bit! This is hyterical tho'.

It's definitely a nice feature if you switch drivers often. I wouldn't say criminal either, but would be nice to have.

The bigger question is.... is all the hardware there and they simply switched a bit in the software to turn it off for the G8?

Read a little further.... they made a mistake and put the instructions in the manual, but the feature is not on the car.

Then why did he list a procedure if it doesn't work anyways? How do you srew up and put a feature in the manual that's not even on the car????

I think he was generalizing a procedure used for other cars in the GM fleet.

I was trying to help ed troubleshoot his car. As r1 said, that is the general way the procedure works on a GM car. It was only later that it was determined that the feature is not available, even though it is in the manual. Not sure on your last question.

I bet there is a piece or a few pieces missing, such as something different about the BCM.

GM did something similar on the 05 GXPs (and possibly others). In the service manual (not the owner's manual), you will find info for personalizations for both the Nav/radio and the HVAC system, however the feature (system) was never available in the car.
