So, today I tried to use the spare key only to find it wouldnt unlock the doors. I press all the buttons on the remote, nothing. So I put the key in and turn it to the left, doors unlock. As soon as I open the door, car starts beeping. I then close the door, and it continues. Then the alarm starts going off. So I run into the house and grab the regular set and press the panic button and it turns off. I went into the customize options on the DIC to program the spare set. I do what it says and I am all set. The buttons unlock the doors and everthing, awesome. I then try to use my normal set, and now that one doesnt work. So I program that set, then the spare doesnt work. WTF? Does anyone know how to get BOTH sets setup so the remote buttons work? I looked through the manuel but found nothing. Any help would be appreciated. I know that if you unlock it manually with the spare set, the car starts beeping, then you need to put it in the ignition and turn it on for it to stop, but all I want is both remotes to work at the same time. Any clue?

That sucks nike. Can't help you with that. Both mine work fine. Your thread prompted me to check my spare, since I haven't used it since getting the car. Best bet, call your dealer. That should have been checked during the PDI.

You're almost there - you have to program both keys at the same time one after the other.

The way you were doing it, it would ignore whatever key was not programmed that session.

That sucks! I haven't tried mine yet.

At least you got to test the SECURITY SYSTEM. Good to know it has a alarm.

How you program both at same time when only 1 can be in the ignition?

Personally, I just take one key out and put in the other one :)

Page 2-13 of your owners manual

"5. Repeat Step 4 for all other keys including keys that require programming or ones previously programmed to the vehicle. Any key not programmed will be erased."

You got a manual when you bought the car correct? :slap: :)

Pull out the manual and take a look. I was perusing it last night and filled in a lot of the holes in my knowledge of the car.

As always, RTFM. :wink2:

Thank you for the huge insight. I didnt even know the car had a CD player or windows. I was suprised to find the car had headlights and a steering wheel.

I did read the manuel and the instructions were not that clear on how to program both sets of keys and how to do it. I know how to program the one set, I was wondering how you program the other.

If you look in section 2-12 of the manual, the second key has to be disassembled into it's two parts. The blade part has the immobilizer in it, and the programming procedure states that you have to put the original, programmed key in first, start the engine, then remove the key. then inesrt the blade section of the other key into the ignition within 5 seconds and turn to the on position, then turn the ignition off again. That will program the new key. After that, you can proceed to program the remote section of the key.

It actually doesn't sound complicated. It's probably harder to get the key apart!
Actually, the diagram shows that the two pieces of the key just slide-lock together.

Make sure you let us know how long it takes you to disasseble the key! :wink2:

It's a new car under warranty...just take it back to the dealer and make them do it since they probably screwed it up in the first place! Have em check your ECM/TCM while they're at it. My ECM had 9 updates! None for the TCM though.

I know you could take it to any Pontiac dealer to get it done.
