: sound system installed
jundy314 05-23-2008, 09:28 AM yesterday i installed my sounds system, i went with ONE 10inch JL W7 and a JL 500/1 amp, with 4gage wire, the instaltion was very easy since the battery in located in the truck allready, only had to run one wire to the front, i just ran the wire under the door plates they just snap right off, overall im happy i no it can be alot better with an aftermarket radio but i dont plan on changeing the OEM ONE only bc i like the original look so yea im really happy with the install, sounds great for just haveing the OEM radio powering it and from the out side u dont hear to much bump so i was happy about that to..

jundy314 05-23-2008, 09:29 AM o and i still HAVE PLENTY truck space left if any of you were wondering about that..
4gasem 05-23-2008, 09:35 AM JL subs are great.
I'd like a Fosgate amp and two tens though... I like me some bass... I'd build a skinny yet long box to fit against the back of the seats but I would also make it very easy to remove.
Looks great!

SRG963 05-23-2008, 11:15 AM ported boxes are such a waste of space IMO
for clean, tight hitting bass, go with a sealed box.

If you want too, you should pick up a 3/4" MDF sealed box. Ebay or something has them for around $30 shipped to your door.
Just to compare for yourself. I bet you like the sealed box better, it requires less power from the amp, and takes up a smaller space :)
You can even go with the smallest suggested box your sub recommends, then stuff it with poly-fill. The poly fill tricks the woofer into thinking it has more room.

Slot port designs are more efficient than sealed boxes and the box is a JL box designed for the sub so I'm guessing the sound is pretty decent.
Looks nice... any rattles?

A custom enclosure in the spare tire well would be cool. Ditch that pump and put a sub - probably could fit the amp too.
HardEight 05-23-2008, 03:32 PM We are going to build an enclosure to match the drivers side of the trunk and take up that empty space where the battery would have gone on the passengers side. Plenty of space there for one 10. But those w7's need more airspace than most speakers I believe. Anyway, looks pretty clean. Does the added SPL pushing against those factory 8's in the rear deck make them sound like garbage or can you tell a difference?

Ported enclosures are actually much more efficient than sealed enclosures. Depending on the listener one can be preferred over the other. Both can sound GREAT! With only a 500/1 on a W7 though I would stick with the ported enclosure. IMO a 500/1 is better suited to the JLW6v2 than the W7. I've worked for one of the states biggest JL Audio dealers for over 4 years and used their woofers in nearly every application you could imagine. If you ever want to redo the enclosure hit me up, I'll be glad to help.
