: Picture of 6.0 liter engine with cover removed???
Mike P 06-10-2007, 11:03 AM Does anyone have a picture or pictures of the VE Commodore 6.0 V8 engine with the engine cover removed?
I'm taking mine off as soon as I get it home.
Thanks in advance!
immortal 06-10-2007, 01:17 PM I can't find my camera's USB cable, I'll post it once I do. Why do you ask?

I think we just want to see how cool it looks. Kinda like a girl without clothes on. :p

Great analogy! Yea, I just want to see what it looks like with no cover, as that's how it will look in my engine bay.
Immortal: When you get a chance please post a couple of pictures, if you would. Thanks! :yumyum:
Mike P 06-14-2007, 08:12 AM Any yet? : )

I'm sure it looks nearly identical to the LS2. (I'll be taking the cover off also.)
immortal 06-17-2007, 04:23 PM Sorry Mike, no cable , I've looked for it. Once I can get the engine shots up; I will.
Mike P 06-18-2007, 11:58 AM Cool, thanks.
immortal 06-24-2007, 05:52 PM Hoorah! found it!

Question: Why does it look like there are 2 airboxes?
Maton8 06-25-2007, 07:39 AM That air box is so crappy that is probably why so many get such a large HP increase from a intake alone. there is no way in hell that flows good

np :). The one on the left is the fuse box. There are three fuse boxes in the car, one in the engine compartment, another in the trunk and the last is beside the pedals coverd up.
and yes the intake tube is VERY constrictive, I'm thinking of fabbing up a pipe ;)

I think he means the baffle right in front of the throttle body and the air filter box on the right.
The Camaro/Firebird LS1's came with a similar baffle. The removal of said baffle and airbox lid were usually the first mod for F-body guys.

+1
That junk is just unncessary plastic.
Mike P 07-01-2007, 12:00 PM I wonder if someone will make a Cold Air Intake like they have designed for the Corvettes. One's that are attached right after the throttle body? It seems like that would be best so the air would come straight in vs. having to go around a bend like some of the Austrailian CAI's?
The type of intakes I'm talking about look like this: (below)
(I can't figure out how to post pictures)

immortal 07-01-2007, 04:53 PM That would go right over the radiator.. I'm not sure if it would be better but unless you drill the nostrils on the G8 it'll just bring in hot air.
What I'll be doing is just a custom fab 4" pipe (bent to the side) and throw a cone filter on it :D

The one closest to the TB is a baffle that is also called an air-silencer, it keeps the engine intake noise to a minimum.
(Sarcasm) Who buys a V8 and wants the intake noise kept to a minimum?

Will do. My car will be going through a dramatic change in a short while, I'll keep you all posted :D
Mike P 07-06-2007, 06:37 PM Sweet, keep us posted.....

Yes there is. I have one on my car and have made up the plastic cover (where the yellow warning sticker) to close up the gaping hole left by the removal of the factory air box. The pics below are of my mates HSV Clubsport R8 with the LS2 engine but the CAI fits both the LS2 and L98's.... It takes about 45 minutes to do the change over and boy the induction roar is nice... The pipe is aluminium 4".
There are some mods being trialled over here to get more cooler air into the filter which sits down below the headlight

you can do an "over the radiator" setup, but that would require custom tuning without the MAF sensor

I have seen pictures of a sweet OTR filter on the Commodore forum down there. Probably available as aftermarket soon here. Thanks.

Very nice job indeed.
CTS-V 12-16-2007, 09:00 PM I wonder if the Z06 fuel rail covers could be modified to fit this engine? They look sweet on a CTS-V when we do that. This shows off the cool looking intake in the middle.
On the intake I wonder if that air box after the filter box is a surge tank as well as a noise baffle. When I get a V8 I *need* to hear the intake LOL.
