Anyone been able to find one online? Commodore VE would also be fine.

They will be printed by Helms when they are out. I have put in for an email notification when they are available for sale, but have not heard anything yet. Also, if I understand correctly, the manual for the tranny may be separate.

Here is the link for the manual:

And I sure hope they will be offered as something searchable like PDF. Paper is Old School.

When I was looking for wiring diagrams at the dealer he told me I could order a complete factory service manual. IRC it was ~$200.

Anyone able to get their hands on one of these? I signed up for the email notification but still have not heard anything from Helms.

I dont mean to bring up an old thread, but has anybody found the service manual yet? I'd like to try to do some of the minor services myself.......

Seems odd that they dont have this available for a two year old car....

I've been emailing GM Parts house for about three months checking on the status. They are still on back order with no expect release date.

Don't apologize!! Search is your friend!! Many here should learn from your example. Keeping a topic together in one thread benefits everyone.

I have not heard any updates, either.

The 2008 manual is available from Helm. The 2009 is BACKORDERED and Helm told me they do not have an ETA. Best guess, several months.

They do come in paper. I can print any page of the 2009 manual direct from my GM site, but to print out a whole manual is a nightmare because it operates on links, like a web page, so to hit all the pages requires an inordinate amount of time clicking back and forth....

FWIW, the 2008 manual is fine, has the same info.

Item not yet released to Helm from manufacturer. Click here (http://www.helminc.com/helm) if you would like to be notified when this item becomes available. Neither year yet ready from Helm. They never seem to be ready until after a model year is completely over, which was like 10 months ago.

It says the 2008 manual is backordered on the Helm website. Am I missing something?

I'd hope that it would be better than the factory manual I have for my 98 Z28. I realize that some level of mechanical competence and knowledge is assumed when they write the manuals but I found that they assumed a great deal with things like interior trim and such. Don

If it is the actual factory service manual then, yeah, they assume there is some prior technical knowledge. Those are intended for the dealer service techs, repair shops, etc. If "Car Repair for Dummies" is more your speed then Helms or Chiltons is a better choice.

Thanks for the cheap shot in the last line. I'm not a pro but I do OK. Don

I'm not ashamed to say I need the Dummies version!

It's not that I want to save money, it's that I dont trust some of these mechanics. Most could never fill the oil right in my Honda Civic - it was either too full or too empty. Cant imagine what they would do with the G8.

If no service manual is available, then I guess the obvious question is how do the service techs know how to do a mildly complicated service?

Don't be so sensitive. It wasn't a cheap shot it was a joke.

The same service info the dealership uses is available to anybody that wants to subscribe. Subscriptions are available for days, months, and a full year and require online access.

Cool, can we pay the $20 for a 3 day subscription and download the manual in PDF format?

Its not quite so simple unless you have hours to click each and every link and then print to a pdf printer...

Though if you do I will send you your $20 if you email me copies ;) You would be better off making friends with your somebody at your dealership that will let you look things up when needed.

Another source (when they add G8 info) is your local library website. Check to see if they allow access to the ARRC (Auto Repair Resource Center) database. They don't have any info for the G8 beyond TSBs right now but more may be added later.

And so it still stands. But the DVD is available for $400! Yikes! Why can't I just get one for the G8? They will make one given the current circumstances, won't they?

Trust me, you are right, it's a nightmare as each section has hyperlinks to other sections, making paper copies a HUGE task, not to mention getting them into a paper order format that would make sense.

20 bucks, ****, it would not be worth that to sit and have to click and print for hours on end!:)

Yep. Make friends at your dealer and let them print what you need, when you need it. I have been in and out of the .pdf files, there is a ton of data in there.

Too bad Helm can't make a paper copy, and might not ever now that the G8 is no longer being produced.

Now that the government will likely take over GM, I wonder if we can get a G8 manual under the Freedom of Information Act:)

I didn't look at that link, but perhaps someone could write a quick script that would do all the key pressing for you ... run it before you go to bed, wake up to a complete manual saved to your HD.

Personally, I'd prefer paper if I'm working in the garage rather than have to go boot the computer and print something out. Computer might have a cow and leave me w/o support. Don
