: Who Did It???
LoveMyGT 05-26-2008, 11:03 AM So here's the deal, yesturday after my husband drove my 1 week old Liquid Red baby GT around I saw a scratch in the back on the trunk by the Pontiac emblem. Everything in me dropped! LOL. It did not take the paint off but left a white mark.... Any ideas how to get it off?? I tried waxing her, but no luck. My husband says I need to chill out, it is going to get a few scratches (we have 3 sons). I wigged out. I'm still wigging out. LOL LOL. :whine: Nobody wanted to fess up on who did it...LMAO.
unixadm 05-26-2008, 11:20 AM I have some Mother's polish products that is specifically for removing scratches. However if you can catch your nail on the scratch, it won't get rid of it. But if the clear coat is just smudged, it should polish most if not all of it out. Most any auto parts store should have it in a red bottle. I recommend using a microfiber polishing cloth, so if you don't have one, now is a good time to pick up a couple. It only gets easier from here, the first scratch is always the worst.
VENOM 05-26-2008, 11:39 AM try Meguires "scratch X." its really good stuff. If it went thru the clear coat, nothin you can do about it. But if it's not, just try some scratch X and hopefully it till come out.
oh, by the way, I DID IT!

Looks like the four of them are keeping secrets from you.

This usually worked for me.
Put all 3 sons on their knees in a small circle in the back yard. Make sure all 3 get a good look at the .357 Magnum in your hand. Advise them that the first one to rat-out the culprit has a "chance" of living. Might find out right away. If not, worst case, none of them will ever scratch the car again.
OK...............................:p

Just like the movie "The Deer Hunter". I think this calls more for Mad Max themed punishement, seeing that your car has Autralian roots mate. Just stake them all out in the back yard....
On the other hand have you tried a Clay Bar? It is amazing what those things can do... The one that Mother's makes is usually avalalble at the local auto parts store. Even if it does not work, you will need it for other things. It works on a number of imperfections...
BBBBGXP 05-26-2008, 07:09 PM These are all good ideas, although some rather extreme, Pen, but the FIRST thing you want to do is collect all the keys. Give only one set out at a time. The one that has the keys last, made the new scratch. Simple rule, simple solution.........see Pen's post above!:wink2:
G8 Ray 05-27-2008, 05:22 AM Lots of great advise here. LOL
I'd go with the Mother's California Gold scratch remover, or one of the other brands posted. :)
Blackdevil77 05-27-2008, 06:23 AM bring it to the dealer. Have them try to compound it out. If that doesn't work, either touch up or have them repaint it. I feel your pain. I back up into a thorn bush in a parking lot that was so low I couldn't see it. This was in the first week i got it and scratched up the bumper and trunk pretty good. I cried. DEALER REPAINTED IT FOR FREE! :D
LoveMyGT 05-27-2008, 07:18 AM You guys are sooo funny !!LMAO. Bought Mothers scratch remover yesturday. It did'nt take it out, but I have not tried the bar yet:). The kids and husband are still pleading the fifth! Can you really blame them??LOL.. Thanks all for your help:)
G8 Ray 05-27-2008, 09:24 AM The clay bar will not help with the scratch. Unfortunately.
VENOM 05-27-2008, 11:24 AM Clay bar will NOT do anything for a scratch. Try "Meguires Scratch X." Stuff workers wonders
zosoboogie 05-27-2008, 08:52 PM the first scratch is always the hardest. my second day of careful but yet fun driving I took a corner too sharp and scratched the rim it wasn't bad but it hurt the most.

That may have been a bit extreme on my part. I think the staking out in the back yard is likely much better. The worst that could happen is they all get a nice tan (sunburn).
Unless, of course,...............................there are ants, and a pot of honey.
:p :p :p
BBBBGXP 05-27-2008, 10:31 PM Don't think she lives in the Puget Sound area, so the chances of a sun anything go up immensely!:biggrin2:

BBBBGXP 05-27-2008, 10:41 PM At least we do see the sun................just before it sets!!#$%@&*:cursin:
Dan1G8 05-28-2008, 04:16 PM I feel your pain. My wife called me one day screaming and crying because someone put a dent in the passenger side of our 2 week old 06 Mustang GT in the parking lot at Publix. It was obviously that someone hit it pretty damn hard with their door, leaving white paint right in the slight crease that runs down the body. I knew the pharmacy manager and asked him if he could check the security tapes and all he could tell me is that there was a white Expedition parked next to her,but no footage of the occupant(s) exiting the car. It ended up costing us around $200 to have the Dent Dr fix it. Took the tech about 1hr and it was damn near perfect when he was done. It was worth every penny. What really pissed me off, was the fact that we had to lay out $200 before we ever made the first payment, just because some scumbag has no respect for other peoples property.

That's ridiculous. Something like that happened to my old car (thank god NOT G8). Someone decided to open there door as hard as they can with their foot! That's right they kicked it open. Don't ask me why. Sounded like a car accident. I started running after him but he sped off. Ya know, sometimes I just hate people. They can be so disgusting and disrespectful sometimes. That's why I park my G8 WAY in the back of parking lot's away from everyone else. If I can't do that then I try to park next to nice expensive cars. I figure they don't wanna hit their car into anything either.
kmag53 05-29-2008, 09:56 AM I know what you all mean..this is why I always head for an "end" spot so at least no one can park next to me on one side.
MissNaySimon 05-29-2008, 10:59 AM Thankfully, my husband put the first scratch on ours. :P He was putting the carseat in the car a little rough... :P
