Ok, this may sound weird. Why do they have a feature where one touch window goes fully down, but you have to hold the button for window up??

Never had this problem in my jag ;-)

Anyway, seriously, is there a kit for the G8 to enable auto down and up with one touch??

:drink:

i agree...any japanese car you get now has auto up and down on all windows anymore...

not sure if there is a fix though...

I wonder if there is a way to install a second relay? Splice it in the system somehow utulizing the same relay that make it go fully down...?

I'll have to see if AllData has schamatics posted yet.

Most of the auto down/up windows though, they have a whole different switch system, press halfway in for manual, all the way for auto, touch halfway half through to get it to stop, and on some higher end vehicles like the one my parents own and I dont get to play with, theres the screen feature on the back windows that need a triple hit on the switch. Seems like way too much work for there to be a fix.

$30,000 should = auto windows though. imho:drink:

Did you ever think that this might be a safety feature? I don't believe you can strangle a kid with automatic window down. You probably can with an automatic up feature tripped accidentally. Maybe Jag owners aren't supposed to have kids, but I have never seen a car with automatic up power windows.

I work for ALLDATA, and I doubt we have G8 specific diagrams yet. However since I own a G8, I certainly will be staying on top of this. :)

Not true. My friend bought a new civic and an accord and neither have auto up feature.
I'm glad GM put the money into the drivetrain and not my window switches.

It's a safety thing for Australia, allot of cars are like that here...

I've never seen a car with the auto up feature. I would imagine as others have said that it's for saftey.

Fairly sure it's illegal for a manufacturer to put auto-up on a U.S. car.

lol, the Jag had an Auto up feature.... if a dumb kid stuck his hand/head/leg/finger/nose/toes...or any other body part between the window and seal, the window would instantly stop and go full down! It was sweet! and i loved it! I miss it!

Besides, my kids are all grown up and have their own rides now....just some friends in the back every once in a while, if any of my dumb friends decided to stick their finger..or any other body part between the window and seal just to see how it felt..... they probably deserve the pain!

Hey Unixadn, keep me posted when Alldata gets the diagrams in for the G8, need to wire in my subwoofer and some other stuff...

Thanks!

I believe my friends Audi S4 had auto up. He gave me crap because I had to hold the button. Safety could be solved by a current limiter - the sunroof does it, heck my garage door does it.

If you want auto up, look for a hot blonde or brunette. lol

That's about the best you can hope for if you own a G8. Otherwise, buy a Veedub.

lol....nice....so if i want 451 hp from my 6L G8, i should have bought a AMG Mercedes? Or a corvette? or a Honda civic with twin turbos?

Oh well, sounds like i'm stuck.

Having come from older GM's, this thing is feature packed. However if comparing this car to a true luxury sport sedan feature wise, is going to make the G8 look quite lacking. I believe Holden also offers a few different interior levels, from functional to performance, and luxury. I think we got the middle of the road in terms of features. I mean I miss my navigation and some of the features of my last car, but once I'm behind the wheel of the G8, I'm sitting in a very good place. It's a great drivers car, but the more features, the more money. I think they did a pretty good job on a whole, getting the car at a good price point, with a solid feature set. It won't make everyone happy, but I think as an owner after a while you simply forget about some of the smaller short comings if the package as a whole is good. The G8 isn't the most expensive car I've ever bought, but I find it to be the best. It does a lot of things well, and to me that's what counts.

With that said I'm sure some modules will come out for this, if they are not out already. I know modules exist for alarms to raise and lower the windows. Hey that's another feature I miss, rolling the windows down from the keyfob. Even my old 1995 Maxima SE had that feature. :)

Yeah, I owned a 350z for a while, that feature is standard. Just hold down the unlock button for like five seconds and BAM windows go down. Nice when you live in FL and its 100 degrees in the middle of the day in the summer. It wasn't even that well known of a feature (my local dealer had no idea they did that) The downside is, EVERY car since then that I have driven (not even owned, just driven around) I try the unlock button and nothing happens :-(

But, you can buy universal door/window/autostart/garage door key fobs from best buy and have it installed, so if it's really that big of a deal, head on down.

My recently traded BMW had the auto up feature.
The system involved more than the switch.
As others have said, it's a safety issue.
My BMW had a sensor, encased in a soft rubber bead that encircled each window. If the window was active in it's auto-up cycle, and you pressed on this bead, the window would immediately reverse itself.
My GTO is the same way, so this set up is very familiar to me, and not an issue.

If I remember correctly, I have been in a Cadillac Catera that had the auto up feature. And I think we all know where that car came from too. :)

Our 2007 Honda Pilot has auto-up on the driver's window. (As well as auto-down.)

Not a safety feature. It just needs a sensor to see when the current draw for the motor increases then cause it to reverse directions. I have a Mazda CX-7 that has this feature and it was discussed at length several times when I was at Toyota Tech Center as it was a newer feature comming out.

However, I will gladly take automatic lights over the window up feature any day of the week. I can't tell you how many times I get into the CX-7 and forget to turn on the lights. I guess I've been driving GMs for too long.

Definitely NOT a deal breaker for me.

glad to see at least one other person has some good info on the subject...

having worked at a tier1 supplier that made power window motors, i can enlighten you...

this feature is called "anti-pinch"...basically as stated above, if the window encounters a set amount of resistance (making the current draw go up), a circuit trips and the window reverses approximately 6-8" (on ours anyway, don't know what the other motor manufacturers do)...this happens EXCEPT when the window is within 1" of full closed (there is a cam inside the motor that trips a micro-switch when it reaches this point) the anti-pinch feature is turned off so that the circuit won't be tripped when the window hits the glass run at the top...

i have a nice little PPT if anyone is interested that explains it a little better...

and no it is not illegal to have auto-up on a window, as long as it has an anti-pinch feature...

2004 CTS had auto up and down. It was so sensitive that it was hard to open the window part way.

Thanks for that explanation of the 'Pinch" thingie....makes more sense now. You're right, too complicated and not worth the trouble of rigging it up to have it for the sake of having it....

guess i'll just have to have a pretty little red head in the car with me at all times....lol

It is a safety issue, not but not a safety feature, to save cost, they put the cost of the reversing system (need for safety if auto up not to entrap kids heads and parts like when we were kids and the parents were not paying attention) into something else, or nothing at all to get the G8 to be the fastest car under 30k.

Not a huge issue to me, and I came from a car that had all 4 windows auto up and down.

It is a convenience, however, how lazy can you get that you can't hold the button up for less than a minute? Or just have your passenger do it since the switches are all right in the center. ;)
