Im looking to purchase a used set of axel back 40 series delta from a Gt owner. Question will they bolt right up or is their piping larger?

From what Ive heard the piping is larger on the V8 models but it will bolt up to our V6's. So what I'm thinking is that the flange is the same size which is what allows it to bolt up to our smaller sized piping. If you go through with the deal be sure to post up a sound clip.

spoke to a guy at an exhaust shop, the prob is we are down 2 cylinders, to these gt's. he said at like 1500rpm/ 5th gear, it is not a pleasant sound.... so he would not recommend us doing this

I sold some MF axlebacks to a v6 owner a couple weeks ago and havent heard any feedback from him yet.

Exact same problem I had with the prototype cat back from Magnaflow. ;)

Did any of you see in the other V6 section that Solo Performance will be releasing a axle back exhaust for us V6 guys.

Noob question here: axle back systems are primarily to change the exhaust note right? I can't imagine that you would get much performance out of one.

Here is a statement that I received from Steve at Solo Performance in regards to your performance question.

"The performance increase will be slight...since it is just an axle-back. It is difficult to get any performance increases, even with a full cat-back on a V6 without tuning. You will notice an immediate improvement in throttle response, but until it is tested on the dyno, we will not know any HP and TQ gains for sure. It will definitely be more free flowing and sound a heck of a lot better, so I would expect to see some gains."

So probably something like 4-5 hp at most it sounds like. I'm not looking to get a cat back, I want a whole new exhaust from headers on back - I think that would make the biggest difference.

If all you want is the tips I believe SLP sells them seperately. I dont know for sure but looking at there site they have a set of tips that look very very close to what they put on the G8 systems. You could ask them to be sure.

I sold some MF axlebacks to a v6 owner a couple weeks ago and havent heard any feedback from him yet.

That was me!

I am repeating myself here as I have put this in a few threads....maybe I should start my own.

Here we go:

BIG time drone in the 1700-2300 RPM range. If you accelerate through that range quickly it sounds great, if you are starting slowly from a stop sign up through the rev range it gets pretty annoying. This is what killed it for me most (getting through that range to cruise). When cruising at 62 mph it really wasn't bad...the ride on the highway at 70 MPH was a killer - again because I was getting into the 2000 RPM range. I constantly flipped to manual shift to get around the interior drone. In the end I had to take them off.

I am still contemplating my next move, as this MAY be due to the removal of stock resonators and X-muffler (I had both cut out and replaced with a custom X).

I was thinking a set of Magnaflow 10415 resonator like mufflers for each side before going back to the axle backs and a X pipe before them MAY work.

Either that or a dual in dual out muffler with a build in X pipe in the middle where the stock one was.

Anyone have experience with elimination (or even just quieting) of drone using resonators/x-pipe?

Thanks sorry for the loss though will def wait for Solo I need to be patient :)

Patience is a virtue that I kicked to the door long ago!

Good luck...can't wait to hear a viable aftermarket exhaust for our sixes.

Sorry about the drone issue. It wasnt to bad for me on the 6.0, but never went on the highway with them. Maybe you should try J's on them.

Not a problem, you win some you lose some. I still haven't given up hope yet!

J's may be a possibility. I will have to research more into them as I am unfamiliar. I don't want to modify the axle backs in any way just in case I don't end up keeping them around.

I'm in the same situation as you. I also have a v6 and thought what the heck, and bought some gt axle-backs. They are the Doug Thorley axle-backs. But I still have the mid-muffler and resonators installed. I have the same drone problem as you. A killer around 1700-2000 rpms. But if I hit the throttle enough there's no drone. I guess x-pipe or not drone is inevitable with gt Axle-backs on the v-6. Guess Solo is gonna be the route to go for us who own the v-6. BTW anyone interested is some gt axle-backs contact me. Sry not trying to thread jack . Goodluck with the drone issue. Let me know if you end up installing J's.
