: Engine noise on start up

Recently when I've started my car (and the engine has been cold) there has been a rapid tapping noise coming from the engine. Almost like a rattle. It lasts about half a minute or so, and then disappears. Apart from that, the car is running perfectly.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Or does anyone have any idea what it might be? My warranty is up in a few weeks, and I don't want the stealership to just fob me off, and hope I come back when it's too late.

I thought your Holden was a V8 so I'm not sure if the above applies to your car or not, but give it a read anyway.

Nope, mine's a V6. There's no way I could afford a V8. Maybe one day.
Thanks for the link. I'll go check it out. :)

Crikey, is there a copy of that in English? Or female? lol

I've printed it, and will take it to the stealership next time I visit (probably within a week). Of course the car has stopped making the noise, but they don't need to know that.

Get it documented. Get them to recognize there is a problem before your warranty is up.
Establishing the existence of a problem now can go a long way in receiving no expense post warranty work done.

Are you at 100,000 Miles yet? The powertrain warranty on your car is 5years/100,000 Miles so your engine is covered for a while, you are probably running out of your 3years/36,000

I do get them to document everything. Even if I'm not booking the car in, I go and tell them. They're so sick of me. :)

09V8G8 my car has just over 26,000 miles. I'm not so sure we have the powertrain warranty. All mine came with is the new car warranty which runs out in June, and the second hand car warranty (which is tacked on to the end) which starts in June.

Oops, forgot to mention, the noise stops when I put the car in neutral and take my foot off the clutch. Weird huh? Or is it when I put my foot on the clutch? Hmm, it's one or the other.

In that case,it would be the throw-out bearing/input shaft bearing.

It appears that the noise is coming from the gearbox. A friend who is a mechanic sat in the car for a few seconds, and identified the noise straight away. The car is due for a service in a couple of weeks, so I'll see what the stealership has to say then.
Thanks for all of the input, and the link to the other thread. A few Aussies want a copy of that one. :)
