Has anyone else experienced this?

Car has 1200 miles on it and this has never happened. This morning omw 2 work I was in sport mode (clearly saw it on the dash S1). I had BOTh hands on the wheel, so there is no way i accidentally bumped the shifter. I accelerated hard (3/4 throttle) and at the point where the car would normally shift, if felt like it shifted, but it didnt, i let off the gas and the engine was winding down, i looked on the dash and the tranny was in M1. Anyone? I am hoping it was just some fluke, but there is a small % of me that is worried about the tranny.

Had the same thing happen to me last week. Only happened that once and never again. Don't know. Maybe the hard accel moved the stick enough to bump it down into M1

If you're in sport mode, even if you're not shifting manually, the trans will hold the gear you're in if the computer thinks you're "driving in a sporting manner." This way it won't shift mid-turn and "upset" the car causing you to lose it in a turn, for example.

My car went into M1, from S1, all by itself. I was practicing launching the car, made sure it was in M1, both hands on the wheel, launched, car was bouncing off the rev limiter, looked at the dash, says "M1". That's just my case.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I love the way the car "learns" your driving habits and adjusts. I have experienced this, sometimes it stays in one gear (in sport mode) longer than I want....but this was completely different, the car actually went from Sport mode to Manual mode all on its own without me touching the shifter.

I wonder about your point h3llphyre, if my acceleration was just so forcefull that the stick moved ever so slightly? I have noticed that it is extremely sensitive to movement.

I also experienced this same type of behavior from mine. I put it in sport mode from a dead stop, and when i got to 2nd? i started hearing the motor winding up like it wouldnt shift up a gear. I looked at the dash and it had gone into manual mode as well. I thought i may have accidentally bumped it when i launched, but sure i didnt. I havent driven in sport mode since this incident for fear of it happening again.:(

Ja that sure is sweet.

You get it on and the car just stays into gear expecting you to crank it.

the same thing happened to me just the other day...twice. never happened before, hasn't happened since. I can't explain it exactly, but sure can make you look like you don't know how to drive your car. I personally would prefer a push button sport mode as it would eliminate this problem and any doubt of accidently touching the shifter and putting it into manual mode. getting the 08150 update tomorrow, perhaps it may help to remedy this little quirk.

Had this exact problem yesterday. Was at an 1/8 mile track going from 2nd to 3rd and noticed it wasnt shifting, sure enough it went into manual mode. Nothing will worry you more than looking down and seeing the engine bouncing off the rev limiter.

After that it was runs in manual the rest of the night.

Usually when I shift in an auto i lift my foot off the gas and it upshifts. We should keep in mind that this tranny isnt necessarily meant to react that way. Could it be that its trying to hold the gear thinking its being sporty?

I have had sort of the opposite occur. I was coming down a fairly steep grade in S6 and using the brake to keep me from running up on the car in front of me, and the car shifted to S5 by itself, and a little while later, on the same grade in traffic, my foot still on and off the brake, it shifted down again into S4. Damn car is pretty smart.

Has anyone figured out what the problem is that causes this? I had it happen to me the other day.I was in sport mode, nailed it in a corner in 1st gear, was sideways coming out of the turn and I look down and the tach is at about 6,000 and i noticed M1.I wonder if it's a software glitch or a twitchy gear switch.

You may want to PM Dr. Dana Miller IIRC he had the same issue and I *believe* the fix was a shifter replacement.

Its happened to me several times but each time my own fault. For me it doesn't really go by itself but I like to drive with my hand on the shifter when I'm "driving aggressively"; not used to the way this transmission works completely. You get the picture I'm sure

I've had a few(:wink2:) hard launches in sport mode and haven't encountered this problem. Maybe it's a loose shifter?

That's the first thing I was was thinking, but I am sure I had both hands on the wheel at that moment.

Yes....I also had a problem with mine where the trans. would only work correctly if the shifter was in the normal mode. If shifter was placed into the sport mode (not manual portion) the trans. would not shift out of 1st no matter what you did. Then...if you attempted to use the manual portion of the shift gate the trans. would only stay in 1st gear and if you manually shifted into 2nd it would shift into 2nd for about 1 sec. and then immediately shift violently back into 1st. Throttle position made no difference. Took it to Sellers Pontiac in Farmington Hills ( really great dealer for service....I definitely recommend them!! ) and they ended up replacing the entire shifter assembly which corrected the problem completely.

I've also had the car go into manual mode by itself while driving in sport mode. It was when I accelerated pretty hard.

Mine only does it from a dead stop, in sport mode, power braking and launching. No need to launch in sport mode, so I just leave it in drive. Its not really reproducible, as it doesn't happen all the time, but its happened a few times to me.

Would be nice if there was some sort of "gate lockout" to prevent the shifter from moving when all you want is SM and not full manual. That would also prevent someone from accidentally (my wife) hitting the shifter. :cursin: Something similar to the lock out on the old his-and-hers shifters would be great.
