: Anyone Have Squeaky Brakes Already?

Our G8 has about 1700 miles on it now, and I've noticed that for a few hundred miles it's been having squeaky brakes. I dropped it off at the dealer to have it looked at about an hour and a half ago. They are also doing the TCM and ECM updates on it.

Anyone else have brake problems already?

I do going backwards but never forwards. Same mileage BTW.

My car's brakes perform flawless both ways. Guess after what seems to be millions of pads, I finally broke them in correctly :)

I'm only at 1000 miles BTW

Yeah mine have squeaked since I got it. Pisses me off. Light braking is silent and heavy braking is silent. It's just normal-moderate braking that causes it. Took it to the dealer and they didn't fix it.

I noticed that it did it when it was cold for a while, but now it's starting to do it when I've been driving for a while. I had a serious case of brake dust too. I wish I hadn't washed the car and got rid of it..

Had the same thing for a while, but it seems to have disappeared. Haven't noticed it for a few weeks (2800 miles). Maybe whatever coating was on the pads is worn off. :dunno:

Is this something that the dealer could fix or would I be wasting my time taking it in?

I have squeaky brakes but mine is from burnouts. I don't think that it is anything that major. if it prolongs i would ask the dealer.

Has anyone taken their car into the dealer on this? If so, have they been able to fix it? It annoys the hell out of me to have a brand new car and when I back out of my driveway it sounds like I am driving a chevette!

Like most, mine do it mostly when backing out of the garage into the street in the morning. The only other time is they are wet and I just started up the car. After a few miles and they dry off though, they're fine. I wouldn't say it's anything out of the ordinary.

WTF my brakes are the same when i back out in the morning they squeal and when cruising down state street (santa barbaras main street) at a moderate pace they sort of making a hissing sound SUPER embarrassing especially bcuz everybody turns around!

Well I seem to be lucky again. Have yet to hear even the slightest squeek. And suprisingly very, very little brake dust on wheels. 2008, not first 888, ~5000 miles.

I have a slight squeek when backing out in the AM, but that's the only time. 2008, not first 888, ~2000 miles.

I had the same issue. My car went into the shop on Monday and this is one of the issues that needed to be addressed.
The dealer removed the rear brake pads and beveled the edges of the pad, and now, no squeaky!

Yeah I have the brake squeak! :( I have speed bumps in my neighborhood and its annoying to have it squeak at each bump in the morning or when ever I drive the car for the first time that day. It really sux when I'm going through a drive-through. It seems to me that it is only one wheel, LR tire. I have 4500 miles on her now.

OK, sorry guys but did a search and brought this thread back. This brake squeaking sometimes happens to me when backing out of my garage in the morning. How do you bevel the pads? Does every dealer know how to do this? Has anyone found a solution or does it go away after so many miles?

Mine still squeals, and I'm just about at 10,000 miles. Only when backing up out of my garage. I attribute it to moisture as it only happens in the morning for me, but that's just my guess.

I am guessing they will always squeak.

I remember seeing a bulletin about this a while back. The dealer is supposed to replace the rear pads. I guess it is a new compound.

Since they only do it cold when backing up for the first time in the morning, I'm not interested. They work GREAT otherwise. If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

has anyone found a good solution for the squeaky breaks? Mine squeak like hell when the disks/pads are cold. Once they've warmed up they are quiet...but man when they are cold they will wake up the neighborhood

Remove the pads and apply anti-squeal compound on the back of all the pads. You can buy it at most auto parts stores.

JusticePete

anti-squeal will help. Re-bedding the brakes can help too.

Mine still squeek even though it's not cold anymore. Getting tired of it. Might have to get Hawk pads sooner than I thought.

Thought I'd bring back this thread because I'm sick of my brakes squeaking. It's not the backing squeak or the cold / wet brake squeak. Rather, my brakes -- I think it's the rears and not the front Brembros -- squeak like CRAZY when coming to a stop. The squeak seems to happen during the initial stages of brake application. In other words, it happens at about the first 25% of brake pedal application and stops thereafter. But, during that first 25% it is crazy loud. It seems to come and go, but it happens multiple times during every trip. It happens when the brakes are warm or cold. Frankly, it's embarrasing to have a nice car, only to pull up to someone with the brakes yelling like mad.

I took it to the dealer about 6 weeks ago, and they told me the brakes looked fine. They told me that, with performance brakes, they are going to be a little noisier. I completely get that, but the noise I get is certainly not what GM had intended. Then, I got to thinking more about it and wondered why the front Brembros don't squeak -- after all, aren't they high performance brakes?

I'm very close to going back to the dealer and telling them to replace the rear pads and to put it on GM's tab.

Any thoughts? I realize I can go buy some Hawks or other ceramic brakes. But, frankly, I don't want to spend $300 after install when this is something that GM should fix. Plus, I wash the car every week and can deal with the brake dust.

Thanks in advance.

Many times just taking the car out and burnishing them (drive with the brakes and throttle applied) for 10 seconds seconds, wiati 15, then repeat this process most times eliminates the squeel. Most poeple who drive their rides gingerly have squeel. Heavy brake application guys usually do not
