OK.. i decided i want one..gonna go to the dealer to test drive,,but need your opinions..do i go v6 or v8 and why?

yes i know the 8 will kill the 6 but is the 6 enough to have fun with..plus the cars look the same except for rims...

i know i would love the gxp or an 8 but $$$ the gas...plus i have a 2009 hayabusa for speed..lol

thx

The V8 won't use that much more gas, I'd go with the V8 if you can afford it. There's so many V6 owners trying to make their car faster but there's very little mods available for it.

Get the v8 or you will regret it. You can get very good mpg with the gt.

My opinion on whether you should go with a V6 or V8 is - What kind of speed are you eventually looking to get out of the car.

Mileage is very close.
Reliabilty seems very close.
Maintenance cost goes to the V6.
Power and ultimate potential goes to the V8.

If the V6 is powerful enough to keep you happy & you have no plans on making the car quicker, go for the 6.
Try to drive both though to be sure.

not tracking the car or anything..just make it look good..want a white one and some 20's with white face and chrome lip or black face and white lip and maybe 1 inch lowering with eibach springs..

you guys mention that the mpg is similar? really...how many kms to a full tank on the v6 and v8? and how much to fill?

oh and if i got the 8 i would do exhaust..but thats it ok air filter too..lol but not looking to spend $$$$ to go fast..like i mentioned i have a monster bike...lol

thx..do you guys have any nightly rides or meets?

Morris
04-19-2010, 11:36 AM
LOL, just the exhaust, maybe an intake, too funy.....that's how it starts. Your not the only one with a bike, that is no cure for the mod bug.

Look you can average 20+ mpg on the gt easy, I get that driving 80 mph. The v8 will sound killer compared to the v6 when you get the exhaust.

Honestly I can see very little reason to go with the v6 over the v8 but a ton of reasons to get the v8. Buyers remorse number one on the list.

Sure there are some who are content with the v6 but the simple fact that you asked the questions means that you are not one of them IMO.

in my V8 i get over 300 miles per tank not sure in kilometers but i tend to drive it like a V8 more that i should lol and its a pretty monster tank i think its around 16 gallons i average about 18 mpg highway and FUN city driving lol

Morris

I think I'm at 330 to 340 each time I fill up and that's when the light comes on. I think there is another 1.5 or so gallons left in there after that. I'm guessing, not sure what the tank holds but I put about 16 gallons in.

Now after looking at that list of mods......You need to come to our next modaholic class as you are most certainly afflicted in a bad way.

04-19-2010, 04:50 PM
The tank holds approximately 19.3 gallons or 73.0 Liters.
Mileage varies by driver input.

was in the same boat as you, shopped for 3-4months to find mine, be patient, the right car will come along.. I would pass on the v6 (I did) cause I would have always regretted it. Also, the V8 was the same to insure (for me) as the v6. I started out looking for a white one, then started looking at silver, ended up in MGM (gray) White V8's are pretty rare in the Ontario market right now. I think the only one for sale when I bought mine was the one in Orangeville that you mentioned. That dealer is out to lunch on his price though, wish you more luck than I had in talking him down...
I'm averaging 10.2l per 100km. thats mixed city and hwy, but I don't have a heavy right foot (save the speed for the two wheels)

Hey Guys,

Thanks troy for the heads up. I am in Toronto and have my 09 G8 GT White Hot for sale 1SC package. its the 2nd highest package available for a Canadian car besides 1SD (had the 19's and $100 race pedals you can buy separately). I bought my GT new from Hinton Pontiac on May 1st, 2009. I still have the original bill of sale with full documentation.

Was looking for 35,999 for it stock. I currently have the Rotofab CAI on it as well as the Hi Flow Solo Cats (just installed last saturday) and Solo Mach catback v2 with jpipes (zero drone). The stock rims are the 18's on the GT but I have 20 inch Breyton GTS matte grey 20x8.5 fronts & rears (to rotate for maximized tire life). The tires on them are Yokohama S-Drive's with 90% tred left (have about 10k on them). They are from tire rack and have all hardware (at additional cost).

here is my ad in autotrader - we can work something out. PM me if you are serious.

Canadian cars are always more expensive then US cars. The problem with buying a US car is that GM Canada will not honor the warentee if the car is from the US.

Auto manufacturers do this so that it cuts down on importing from the US. You would also have to pay import/duty tax if you bring in a car from the USA and need to get it inspected. Because the car is manufactured in Australia, NAFTA does not apply and you would have to pay an additional tax.

So its up to you if you want to import and go through the hassle of a few hundred bucks at the end of the day.

The supercharged Grand Prix doesn't have a limited slip either, and many of them are 11 second cars with the right mods. So you don't need an LSD to go fast.

While an open differential and limited slip differential have their pros and cons, two wheeled burnouts are absolutely
capable with both. The open differential just needs equal traction at both tires to acheive it. Cornering is a whole other
ball game. Judging by the interest in the GT it looks like it a moot point. Limited slip it is.

Carry on.

I have a rental and it's a great car, except for the lower control arms it's been trouble free after 33,000 miles.

Usually the break in period of a vehicle determines the long term effects down the road. Most of us owners followed factory recommended wear in. Usually rental car companies do not follow the requirement as they do not have control over the customer once they leave the lot.

DRCUSTOMPARTS
04-21-2010, 12:43 PM
In some cases that's true, but we had a discussion about this, and quite a few members DON'T follow the factory break-in procedure. They claimed it was better to just drive the car hard than to break it in properly, which I didn't agree on.

Besides I have a 5yr/100,000 mile engine warranty, so I'm not too concerned how my motor was treated during the break-in period. The possibility that someone drove it like they stole it the whole time during first 500 miles are pretty slim anyway.

The supercharged Grand Prix doesn't have a limited slip either, and many of them are 11 second cars with the right mods. So you don't need an LSD to go fast.
My comment regarding the differentials was in reference to using the car as a DD and for use in Canadian winters, which in his case I would think having the LSD would be a definite perk.
