Gas is killing me@ $4.09 a gallon I do alot of misc driving, parking lot pimping, cruising for chicks, looking for races etc. I got this car and I knew gas would be an issue but I can run out a half a tank of gas in less than a day. Driving this car slow will not happen I will not let gas keep me from having old school fun. Unless gas get's up to the expected high of $8 a gallon. At what point do you draw the line? $5 a gallon, $6 a gallon, what about $8 a gallon?

$4.09? I just paid $4.29 for 87 here in Sacramento today at Chevron. Will it stop me from having fun? Oh heck no. Will it cause me to eat cup 'o noodles? Oh heck ya. 13.8 MPG last tank.

This is the 4th thread of this nature... awesome.

If you couldn't afford the gas, why bother buying the car? We all knew gas was going to get insane before the car even hit the lots.

no one said he couldn't afford gas. he was just asking where you draw the line.

to answer the question that was asked, I think that once it hits $5/gal, may drive the car slightly less. whether people want to believe it or not or continue to be stupid, gas prices will affect sales of this car. in todays world, every car advertised on tv talks about how many MPG's they get, or $2.99 gas guarantee. Its weird though, my 1995 chevy cavalier got like 30mpg back in the day. Today, commericals are bragging about "30mpg." You would think after 10+ years of technology, advancement, and engineering, that majority of new cars would all get over 30mpg. oh well lol

In fact, I plan to celebrate Carbon Belch Day...

Global Warming Skeptics Plot 'Carbon Belch Day'
Conservative grassroots group Grassfire.org wants people to waste as much energy as possible on June 12 to break free from "carbon footprint guilt."

By Paul McDougall

Conservative grassroots group Grassfire.org wants people to waste as much energy as possible on June 12 by "hosting a barbecue, going for a drive, watching television, leaving a few lights on, or even smoking a few cigars."

The point: the group wants to "help Americans break free from the 'carbon footprint guilt' being imposed by Climate Alarmists."

Grassfire.org says it's skeptical over claims that man-made sources of carbon dioxide emissions -- from automobile exhausts to manufacturing plants -- are raising the Earth's temperature at a dangerous rate. Theories about global warming were highlighted by former Vice President Al Gore's 2006 film, An Inconvenient Truth.

Grassfire.org president Steve Elliott, in a statement, said such theories are off the mark. "It's time for Americans to purge ourselves of the false guilt that Al Gore and the Climate Alarmists have placed on us," Elliott said.

Grassfire.org said it chose June 12 as the day it wants Americans to rev up their SUVs because it coincides with expected debate in Congress over a $1.2 billion carbon tax rebate program. "Carbon Belch Day will have at least as much impact on the so-called 'planetary emergency' of man-made global warming as the goofy save the earth mandates telling us to turn our lights off for an hour," said Elliott.

Cities around the world went dark for an hour on March 31 to mark "Earth Hour," an event created by the World Wide Fund for Nature to inspire people to find ways to use less energy.

Grassfire.org is the latest group to question whether global warming is a real phenomenon, or whether it's as severe as portrayed in Gore's film. London's Daily Telegraph this week called environmentalism "the new secular faith."

The paper said the United Kingdom's carbon credits program for industry is "just like the medieval trade in indulgences, where remission for sins was granted by the Church once the sinner confessed and received absolution."

Noted physicist Frederick Seitz, a former president of the National Academy of Sciences, has also questioned the accuracy of global warming theories, as have a number of other academics.

Despite such skepticism, many U.S. companies -- including IT vendors like Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft -- are developing new lines of energy-saving products billed as Earth friendly. IBM (NYSE: IBM), for instance, recently launched Project Big Green, a $1 billion investment to increase the energy efficiency of the company's offerings.

For buyers of such systems, whether or not global warming is real is beside the point. Skyrocketing fuel costs are forcing businesses to cut down on energy consumption in as many ways as possible. As a result, it's unlikely many will decide to "belch" away hard-earned dollars on June 12.

10+ years of more stringent emissions standards and crash safety standards are a bad thing. Engineering can only overcome those so much.

One should ask for any Canadians on this site for their input. Gas prices there are already higher than $5.00/gallon if you convert things over. I actually moved from Canada to Iowa about 2 years ago, and love the cheaper gas. I am heading up there in a couple weeks to visit some friend and family and am already dreading the just in prices I am going to have to pay. But, that all being said, I for one seriously considered buying something more economical before buying this car, but am very glad I didnt. Who wants a boring car that you cant have any fun with? Also, for the price, it is hard to find a car that has as much interior space that this car has AND still looks as sharp. Also, if you cant afford the gas, then you probably should be buying a cheaper car in general.

I used to get like 20mpg on my 95 accord 4 cyl...I actually just filled up today @ $4.35 a gallon and it cost me the same thing. I think if gas is above $6 then I will get a job in Manhattan so I can use the train!!!

Well, I did tell the wife to stop putting the fiber bars in my lunch!

I sold an 07 Honda Civic for the g8, so I guess I need to say NO.

Where would I draw the line. I was spending 600 a month in gas to drive my Titan (10 mpg) That crossed the line. If I can keep my mpg around 20 I'll stay happy. So far I have been getting about 19.5 a tank, mostly freeway miles. I expect it will go up a bit with the exhaust and tune.

Got 8?
07-21-2008, 02:26 AM
I got rid of a 31MPG Cobalt SS to get this G8 and I'm getting about 21 now but I drive 140 miles a day, sometimes 7 days a week (like this week)...If it gets too bad I 'll just take the bike (motorcycle) more..So, hell NO!!!

Stuck in the middel here. Love the car, but man, when you have to fillup 3x's a week compared to the previous car of 1x week....it's getting expensive! It's starting to cut into my starbucks money!
I suppose i can try driving a bit slower and keeping my foot out of the gas pedal will probably help.

I dont care how many people in these threads are like "WHo cares!" And "No way gas prices will never stop me!" Yah...If driving these cars in a way that they should be driven..personally I love that smooth fast acceleration from a stop up to 60...but for sure it will beat up your pocket putting 6-9 gallons in there a day to get around! Which is about
what, $25 bucks a day if we are talking burning about 6 gallons a day?

im with everyone else on this, no way. i can go through 2 tanks a gas a weekend. but it balances out. i travel a lot for my job so every 2 weeks my car sits for 2 weeks while im out of town wishing i could be driving her.

$25 a day? Eh, so what? If I break down my car payment per day, its about $20 a day. I don't see the problem here.

It wont stop me! I still have a vette in my garage to finish. Economy is not a deciding factor for me. Everything I do is within about 3 miles. My gas mileage isnt breaking any records.

short version: no.
long version: My ws.666 gets about 30 mpg hwy and maybe 12-17 street depending on if i romp on her or not. I dont' daily drive it so of course i'm going to crush the pedal every weekend.

My car is tuned and i think the G8 would certainly perform better, both in HP/tq as well as MPG #'s

I think that D.O.D. bull**** makes the engine perform like crap

Yea thats what you think, I have an S4 and still drive everywhere. The only difference for living in the city is you get worse gas mileage cause of city driving, and parking cost 10x more lol. Hopefully I can trade my car in and get the G8, 4 mpg more then my car :)!
