Were their problems early enough that you could invoke the lemon law? I'm still torn between getting a close 2008 model, vs. a 2009 the exact way I want it for more money!

I tagged an '09 G8 GT Sport Red Metallic loaded last night right after they were released for tagging. Checked a little while ago and there are no loaded GTs, of any color, left in this current batch. All are taken by dealers. So if you want an '09 you are going to have do dealer searches to find what you want, or have the dealer do it for you and hope they can arrange a trade. Good luck!:wink2:

This is actually NOT a new Pontiac Model.. The Aussies have had it on the road for a while ..Not REALLY any "First Year" issues with the G8.. So far, just minor gripes from some and the usual small number of REAL problems..
I've had them all.. from a Porsche 911, BMW's and 2 Corvettes.. They ALL have had little issues.. they are all machines after all.
BUY the g8 .. It's a GREAT car!

There's a girl on here now? ewwwww, icky girls...

Don't tell her about the $1400 price increase for 2009 or how the aussies have been driving this model Holden Commodore SS-V for two years. She'll never go away...

Priceless. ;)

moonsketcher,
Get the G8/GT, you won't regret it. It is one of the most refined cars under $50,000.00 that I have ever driven. The attention to quality and engineering is unbelivable for a price of around $31,000.00. One test drive and I think you will be hooked. As Heli411 said the Zeta platform that this car is based on has been around for a few years.

As a member of G6performance, I remember your G6. You really need to read the forum. There are complaints here as well. No car is perfect.

So far I am completely satisfied. As mentioned before, no car is perfect.

Overall, I'm very satisfied. I've never owned a car anywhere near this nice and it still feels like a steal knowing I paid under $30k for this car (with GMS and loyalty rebate).

My biggest (and really only) disappointment so far is the transmission. In my opinion, it is sub-par compared to everything else about the vehicle. When driving in normal "D" (not sport mode") and you want to pass someone quickly on the highway, it takes FOREVER to downshift through the gears. Once it finally gets to the right gear I'm looking for, it takes off like a bat out of hell. I just wish it were more responsive (ala the G6 that my wife drives. You press the pedal in that thing and it down shifts what feels like instantly).

This is a stock tuning issue. After I got VMS tuned the car is completely different. Shifts when and where you would expect without being over done. There is little to no waitng during down shifts. I have also read that if you go to the dealer and get the software update the transmission feel is much better. Just my .02

I've driven Cadillacs for the past 5 years, and traded in my DTS for the GT. Quailty of the G8 is A+. I was able to find over 4 items right away on my new 04 Cadillac DTS that needed fixed. Only thing I feel needs to be improved on the GT is the transmission shifting quicker, something the average driver probably wouldn't notice.

GT7s for this first batch/group/lot are gone, at least as of Thursday night. I haven't looked yet tonight, but somehow I doubt they have restocked the larder this fast.

Price increase for '09s is $400 for Base and $1365 for GT. No news on the ST (the UTE without a name) or the GXP.:)

I had a few little issues, nothing to write home about. Most of it was ME just getting used to the car. I live in California and the drivers out here are scary at times. I have NEVER had a problem passing them in this GT wonder horse:driving:. I have NO regrets!!! As far as gas is concerned, YES you are not going to get excellent gas milage. However, you get so much more like power, a huge "Costco trunk." And I must say a nice roomy backseat, duel air and on and on. For me it does not eat gas threw a straw and compared to my Suburban I traded in it's nothing in gas. You live but once, if you love it and you can afford it than I say go for it and just enjoy it for what it is, " A GREAT RIDE!!"

I too have had my eye on the G8 for quite a while, ever since it was announced in fact. Last year I was extremely close to pulling the trigger and picking up a G6 as well. I decided to hold off another year and get my finances in order. I had just moved and transfered to a new job. I'm glad I waited because I now have a new G8 GT sitting in my garage and I don't regret the purchase one bit.

Wife and I are looking at purchasing a PB G8 GT in about a month. The only concern I have is the transmissions ability to shift properly. MJ, just out of curiousity, where did you read about the dealers being able to upgrade the trans software? Is this something I need to ask about up front, or should the dealers already have this completed at pick up?

There is a TSB for the software update. Odds are that if you purchased a car delivered after the first of May you will already have this update. If I were you I would go do a test drive and see what you think. I was very impressed with the normal shifting operation of the transmission, at least around town. So I would say the stock tune is fine for regular driving or a little messing around. For performance reasons I went with the VMS tune which also helped the cars shifting greatly when driving the car hard. The shifting points were a little more what you would expect under high rpm conditions as well with little to no waiting when downshifting.

Well, there goes their tag line - "Most powerful car under $31360.01" doesn't seem to have the same ring to it...
