racerx 05-30-2008, 03:57 PM I'm thinking of installing my infinity 12'' 250 watt sub...i'll have to post my pics as well...
SRG963 05-30-2008, 04:10 PM I didn't have to drill any holes. 4 splices, remote via currant relay and hooked up to battery. Sooooo easy. This was the easiest car I've ever worked on.
smoking rr 05-30-2008, 05:31 PM i dont know about the "stealth" part, but i bet is sounds really good.

zosoboogie 05-30-2008, 08:58 PM There goes the comparison in weight for the BMW 5 series now you are over 4000lbs!!
unixadm 06-06-2008, 10:51 PM Looks good. What wires did you splice in to? I'm installing an Alpine PLT-5 Subwoofer in my G8 GT for just a bit more 'thump', and I'd like to get all of my wiring done ahead of time and sleeved. It requires two speaker high level inputs for reference.
Thanks!
Bob.au 06-07-2008, 01:14 AM Umm, interesting.

There was a thread with the wire diagram posted in this section. Splice to the rear speakers. I used a relay switch hooked up to one positive speaker connection for my remote, and wired my amp directly to the battery. Works perfectly, and even with 2 subs/boxes, I can still fit 8 large cases of water from Sams Club in the trunk! Tons of room back there.
BTW, everything is ran threw my Audio Control EQX which is hidden on the outside of the box opposite the amp.
Here's the info

I think the added weight in the rear smooths out the suspension some. Plus the weight helps my traction and I'm able to launch at a higher RPM.
unixadm 06-08-2008, 11:46 PM Thanks for the info. I was not sure if I should tap into the sub wiring or the rear speaker wiring. It looks like my Alpine set up will be here on Friday, so I'll tackle it Saturday morning.
asylum 06-09-2008, 02:47 AM just looking at that wiring diagram, i take its for the plug that goes into the amp that sits in front of the battery?
it has speaker outputs for 2 rear speakers, and 2 subs, but i was pretty sure it was only a 2ch amp!?
68Rustang 06-09-2008, 07:03 AM I would have to look at mine but it could be using it as the signal and then passing the it through.
SRG963 06-09-2008, 08:01 AM Yeah, I think the rear speaker signal is what the amp is using for the factory subs. Note that there are 2 battery positives and 2 grounds running into (or out of) that plug. Be sure to stay away from the orange & black w/orange stripe wires :) They are constant power & ground (no good for remote wire application).

youre not kidding!!! my box(30lbs+20speaker lbs),amp8lbs),tool bucket(60 lbs)and various other in and out crap...
= super dooper traction.I cant break em loose unless I'm turning!!
I'm sure it slows me down a little, but the launch is amazing!:driving:
jawilsn 06-11-2008, 09:41 AM Any Ideas for securing those sub boxes? I installed a single box 12" Kenwood. For now I just have two bungee straps but it ruins the look. Has anyone drilled into the trunk yet?
Wolfgangdoom 06-11-2008, 11:03 AM Just out of curiosity, what guage wire did you go with for the amps hot wire? I've never had a car with a battery in the trunk.
Solrac 06-11-2008, 12:57 PM show pictures of how you wired the stereo?

I would, but it's too hot to be moving everything around in the trunk just for pics. I can tell you how I wired it....I think everyone else did it this way.
Follow the chart I posted. Splice the rear speakers, both + and -. That is your line level input. You need something that can take that, so I use a Audio Control EQX. There are also line converters you can buy anywhere. I couldn't live without my EQX, best piece of equipment I've ever bought. Anyways, I bought a power relay switch ($25) and a stereo shop and used it to tap into one of the + of the rear speaker for your remote. Run your amp wires and bingo.

My Boxes fit exactly under the metal deck shelf that is close to the rear seat. I'll go take some pictures of that and post here

4 gauge :)
Solrac 08-24-2008, 09:49 AM what u just explained confused the hell out of me lol
btw i thought u connected your amp directly to the battery, where did u run the wire through?

All the wires are pretty well hidden behind the trunk liner :wink2:
Yes, directly to the battery. I ran the wires to the corner (close to the back seat) then down the drivers side to the battery compartment.
I'll take some more pictures and post them :)
therapture 01-29-2009, 02:45 PM Nice....my 10" sub fits right in the same place on the LH side. fits perfect, I am waiting on my sub, but my box is built and ready to cover, gonna do my wiring next week and have everything ready to go.
Grantski Barney 01-29-2009, 06:14 PM I found a good way to hold sub boxes down a few years ago when I had my lifted Expedition, which I jumped by accident and four wheeled like a retard on purpose. And it is Velcro. I got some "extreme" stuff from Home Depot, it might have been made by Gorilla Glue, but not sure. Just put the side that will "stick" to the carpet on the bottom of the box, and bam, it doesn't move. You could staple gun it to the box if you are concerned about it coming off, but it worked fine for the 2 12" head-ache-providers I had. It also worked wonders on my tool box when off roading, and that thing weighs over 60 lbs. Cheap and fast, that's how I love 'em.
MLozano 01-29-2009, 08:43 PM :eek:Hmmm... Where's the sub?
M1dNit3 01-30-2009, 09:52 AM I'm going with the Bob.AU set up.
I think that's the ultimate stealth. IMO.
SRG963 08-24-2010, 02:52 PM Thought I'd update.
Everything is mounded to the box, which I can remove in less than a min when needed.

aabry 11-28-2010, 08:40 AM So I have had my subs input signal wires hooked directly to each subwoofer in the rear decklid. I don't know how to convert the hookup to use RCA cables for the low input only, so I have to use this hookup. I have the left and the right. the + and - of the left and the + and - of the right, both soldered to the rear subs, going into the input harness of my amp. Ok, I assume that is correct. I had to hook the remote wire to the fuse panel under the driver seat! I did this all about a year ago so I can't really remember why I had so much trouble, but I remember I had to run a wire all the way to the fuse panel under the driver dash. the battery wire is common sense, battery is right there...got it. So why didn't I look at all this before.
So my question now is, you are telling me that the remote for my amp is simply the rear speake wire...is that before the stock amp or out of the stock amp? Is my set up OK? I have 2 10s and and 800 watt amp putting 400 in each sub. It sounds pretty good really, but things are starting to rattle. I don't have sound deadener either, maybe something I should look into. thanks everyone.
BAMAGXP 02-19-2011, 07:11 PM Ok, so I haven't put everything back together but I have everything wired, the remote wire is running from the rear backup sensor harness like you see all around this forum. No engine noise thank you very much!! But, I chose to keep my center speaker hot for now. Question is; are you telling me I can tap into one of the speaker wires coming out of the headunit into the sub amp or the 4 channel I installed to act as a remote? like it detects signal and turns on? I would leave my setup as is but already 4 hours after completing it drives me nuts when I take the key out of the ignition and everything powers off but the center crap speaker. Thanks in advance. If you could reply soon that would be great so I can put everything back together and thump.
SRG963 02-20-2011, 07:58 PM A signal relay switch can sense power from a positive speaker lead and turn on the blue remote wire leaving the switch.
