Anyone know if there are any companies currently working on a set of headers yet?

Kooks, American Racing, and JBA

Not sure but i would be surprised if SLP wasn't working on something also.

I will have JBA long tubes on my car in about 2 weeks.

I don't think anyone will have anything ready for the masses for at least another month.

Thanks

What exactly are header's? Are they the pipes that go right on top of the cylinder's on the engine? Are they street legal and are they loud? How much horse do they add, how complicated are they to install and how expensive? Why did I just ask so many questions?

I just talked to Nick from American Racing headers last week , they are building them right now , hopefully they will be available in the next coule of weeks . These will most likely be the best headers you will be able to get , they are the best for every other car they make them for . As soon as they are available we should have some in stock .

Did you get any indication on what the price would be?

Also, what happened to the Doug Thorley headers?

WOW seems to be which header manufacturer will come out with a version first. I cant wait to get a set, bring them to Pacesetter and have them steal the design and sell the headers for half the price. LOL J/K. I noticed on the drivers side where the knuckle is, there just doesn't seem to be alot of room.

good question. Those would be the ones I would lean towards due to their name and longevity in the drag racing community.

Do any of you guys that are getting these header know if they will require a custom exhaust system to go with it? I was all ready to order the Magnaflow exhaust but then began to wonder, if I plan to do headers too if I would end up having to modify cat back to make it work? You would think that as set of long tubes with cats would extend farther back on the car, than stock, requiring different length pipes for the cat back.

JBA usually does a 50 state legal shorty.

Daym I am outta the times..what happend to Hooker headers??
My Dad use them in the 60s to 90s, on about 10 of his cars and 3 of mine..
Hooker Super Comps where the last ones I had on my BB 70 n half SS camero....
and sum tape stuff wrapped around them...thermotech or thermo wrap sumthing...keep them cool...and made the exhaust gas discharge faster..anyone heard of that suff before.??.. its been like 13 + years since I had it....

"Hooker headers are known for winning on the racetrack. Hooker has been producing top-quality, champion-trusted headers and high performance exhaust system parts for decades."

You could start a new thread entitled "BBK header questions/help"...that would be a lot more effective than commenting on a 4 yr old thread...

Also, fwiw, I have never heard of BBK headers...

How about BBK Headers are they any good?

It's quite simple: Go to Google, type in BBK, search their official site for the vehicle in question and you will have your answer. Could save yourself some time and have an instant answer that way.

The answer is no.

Actually the BBK Camaro shorties fit G8's. Just like JBA shorties were for Camaros first.(they discontinued the actual G8 ones, Camaro ones fit better) Hell, Pacesetter has shorties, cheap on Amazon. Coated too. I'm installing MBS Camaro shorties on my G8.

Wish I had read this ten minutes ago. BBK for $300 bones YES!

So what's the consensus for headers? Looks like kooks has the majority of the market for the G8 (by reading this board). Not looking for opinions...it's interesting to read through old threads to compare the speculation at the time to actual results.

Unless you live in California, I would say Shorty headers are not worth any money you put into them. Mids or Long Tubes are the way to go.

I ordered the BBK Shortys. I will let you guys know the results once its installed

from what i've seen here, shorty headers are a decent upgrade, but the biggest restriction is our stock cats. i believe you will need a tune and high flow cats along with headers to see substantial gains.
