I think there was a post about making a change on the stock air box to make for better flow and sound. My car is a lease so I don't want to put a complete new system on. I think someone said you cut out an area in front of the air cleaner that feeds from the fender? Thanks!

On the stock air horn that goes into the depths on the driver side, there is a rectangle underneath that is about 2.5x4" that just needs to be scored with a razor knife and it comes right off. Can't be seen unless you pull the air horn and turn it over.
I don't know how much good it did, but the Roto Fab or New Era are better, of course.

Ya, I'm doing it to mine. I can't see spending 300+ for an CAI kit. I cut the bottom out of mine and installed a K&N filter. I think the next step is the delete (somehow) the Air muffers on that thing. If i get around to doing it, i'll post pics.

Keep checking the for sale section, or eBay. You will find a cheaper version soon enough. It'll be better than having the stocker on there.

I pulled the air filter box and it looks like the fresh air is pushed through a small opening in the bottom left of the picture. After opening that area up I think a couple parts from Lowes would do a decent job ramming more air into the stock box or the aftermarket setups. Something like velocity stack/cone with ducting going up to the airbox.

Also does any one have an idea what the grey rectangle is on the bottom of the air inlet?

Has anyone just removed the air horn? From the pic above, it looks like it just pops off.

I looked at it, but if you do, you'll be sucking in a ton of hot air. The extension gets you pretty deep to the front of the car.
Has anyone taken and cut off the extra part of the intake right after it comes out of the engine? If you look at it, there would be 2 "pipes" to plug. I just know (well, I really think) those chambers are for sound deading. Take a good look and you'll see it could be cut off and plugged.
Allright, my 30th post, now I'm a member and can quit feeling like I don't belong!....

the stock air box is the worst design ever. they did that to keep the sound down and it restricts like a mofo. I am prob going to get the new era since it looks 100X nicer and also I think works better being tucked down and not having hot air trapped in that little box. but in time other companies (hopefully) come out with other variations. maybe something to utilize the hood scoops.
