: Drag Racing: Drive Mode or Sport Shift Mode

Which should produce better 0-60/quarter mile times? I assume that Sport Shift Mode would be better for drag racing, but most people posting results seem to get slightly faster times in normal drive mode. I have the VMS tune, so maybe that fixed the stock problems with Sport Shift Mode, so for me sport shift mode would produce quicker times, whereas people without a tune should use drive?

i used regular drive and ran a 13.785. i also ran sport mode and got a 14.068. the car ran better in regular drive and didnt shift into 4th at all.

Do you have any mod's or is that completely stock? Also, did you bring up the rpm's before launch or just launched the idle rpm?

Forget Drive. Just put it in "R" for race and stomp it!!!

I like launching the car in manual 1st and then slapping it over into D once I'm sure its all hooked up and ready to go.

We found no difference at the drag strip between sport mode and regular drive.

The only reason I start in first is so that I can peddle the car into some form of hook up when needed.

Please note our car is making 460rwhp.

When the car was stock I ran it in D and ran consistent 13.7's

Thanks

maybe 1,000 RPM was where I launched it at and then just floored it. No wheel spin at all.

Bone stock.

We had much better results running it in Normal Shift, but that was before the service update. Dead stock 14.08 with stock tire pressure (~40psi in the rears) in less than favorable traction conditions, StabiliTrak off with a launch from idle.

40 PSI?? :eek2: Running a little high there, aren't ya?

I ran my time in my SIG and I had stock tires pressure (39 in rear) and I had a full tank of gas and it was 85 degrees out :)

You can't really take much out of these tires due to the low profile and stiff side wall. I wouldn't take them much lower than 30psi.

40psi is a bit much however. Thats what I've got mine set at for the daily drive.

I think in drive it does not hang up as much in 4th gear as it does in sport mode where it keeps it there a little while longer.

I lowered my tire pressure to 28-29PSI and got a 1.9 60' on stock tires back when I was relatively stock.

For the OP if your stock or near stock then D or S isn't going to make much difference, especially if you still have TQ MGMT enabled which most tunes do.

But once your modded there are some options. I have my Drive (D) mode set with lower shift points and some TQ MGMT, Sport mode (S) has higher shift points and some TQ MGMT, Manual mode (M) shifts when I want with no TQ MGMT. Now my quarter miles times are about .1-.15 faster in manual mode compared to Sport and about another .1 slower in Drive. Just something to think about once you do some more mods and get a custom tune.

I have the same torque convertor as you sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Along with a transmission cooler.

I think it really really depends on your mods and your tune - I haven't ran mine at the track yet but I think as long as the conditions are decent sport would net me the best results - the TM is 0 and the shifts are as quick as they could be, seems to go as close to the rev limiter as possible in sport also

It all depends on your tune......Me I just leave it in "D" and run 11s all day long.

doing the manual first launch and then slaping it back to sport is what scored me an 13.44 with nothing but cat back, but now that i have full exhaust intake and tune i just nailed a 12.656 @ 111mph last night! im ecstatic!

i do however totally agree with edmanet^^^ its all about your tune, but stock tuned what i said and what Haddadsports said worked the best for me. and now that i gut a custom dyno and street tune its still works.

True, I can run 11.7's all day long if I leave it in "D".

If you have a stock trans tune there is no difference in the up shifts for a WOT run between Normal and Sport mode. The shift points and shift times are the same. Sport mode was designed for the road course to try and keep you in a lower gear for a better corner exit. Many tuners take Sport mode amd make it more of a drag race mode by changing the shift times and such in that mode.

I ran in sport mode and got my best time. 12.84 at 109.
