Does anyone know if any of the 6.0 V8 VE Commodores have a "status light / gauge" that tells you if you're in 8 cylinder or 4 cylinder mode?

I'm pretty sure the 5.3 V8 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP does not have one, but I know for a fact that the 5.3 V8 Chevy Impala SS has a read out on the driver's information center that tells whether you are in 8 or 4 cylinder mode?

Does anyone know if any of the VE's have it? Or more importantly if the G8 V8's will have this type of display.....?

AFM is only avialable in the L76 (G8). The L98 in the Aussie Commodore's and exported Lumina's don't come with it.

Immortal: Good point, I forgot about that. My bad.

* Does anyone know if the Pontiac G8 GT will have that gauge (like the Impala SS) saying when it is in 4 cylender mode vs. 8 cyl mode?

I guess it would be a novelty to be cruising down the road and tell how throttle position/driving input affects AFM activation.

Here's basically how it works. It only switches to V-4 mode when you do one of the following.

-Let off the gas, although it idles in V-8 mode
-Go down a hill
-Draft another vehicle
-Have the wind behind you

In all of these instances, even a V-8 uses less gas so I would have to assume that your gas savings is really a difference between a V-4 and a V-8 during said tasks. Marginal at best.

I have an '07 Chevy Avalanche with this feature and watch the "modes" for entertainment purposes:)

The reason why I ask is I read that on the LS4 Impala SS, even if you lock in the cruise at like 80 mph it won't go into 4 cylinder mode. You then have to hit the -1 mph button a time or two to "trick" it into going into 4 cylinder mode.

Welcome aboard TR. The mpg is not known at this point. It's tough to tell because of the 2008 changes and AFM.

I wonder if via PCM tuning if you can make the car idle in V4 mode. Think about the awesome mileage you could get then!

Any idea when the 6spd will be available in 2008?

Expect it to be around 4 months after the initial release.

And the initial release is when?
It is to be released in the last quarter of 2007 but some people are saying it could be delayed to the first quarter of 2008.

EDIT: to the Admin/Mods, I like the new buttons and smilies  GJ
