Just curious has anyone even beaten a 13.5 with a tune and intake.??
Why are we not getting times posted by the mags? anyone .?..anyone??

I ran 13.4 @ 105 with a Dyno tune (not mail order tune) and New Era Intake , 13.1 at 106.8 with the addition of Powerbond underdrive pulley , stock tires .

i ran a 13.785 stock, so with an intake, close to a 13.5. It was 85 degrees out that day too so on a cooler night, car would run really well

Good point, the mags tested the car back in January/February when temperatures were nice and cool. It's now getting pretty hot outside which will easily cut 3-4mph off of your top end and probably add .2-.3 seconds to your ET. This fall/winter we'll start to see the G8 times drop like rocks.

i agree. when is the last time a magazine posted times of a car when they ran it in July? Very rarely since like you said, cold months produce good numbers.

For every 10º temp change there's a 1.03% change in HP.

Of course hotter=less and cooler=more

A guy on the ls1 tech forum ran 13.39 at 104 stock, tune 13.00 at 106 and 100 shot 12.12 at 115. Thats getting it. That was at ATCO dragway in April with under 500 miles on his car. Stock intake was also used.

like its been said, its all about temperatures. to run my time in 85 degree weather aint bad. now if you drive it at 10pm when it drops into the 60's, you SHOULD run faster. Not always, but should. Cold air = more speed

13.8 @ 101 all I could muster..( this is with Rotafab intake and flowmaster mufflers.and stock pipes, cats, and resontor)I hope the VMS tune will help my shifts out and get me a few more MPH...I think I was at redline at the top of 3rd at only 101 mph...it bounced of the limiter when I held it...I think I am a few MPH down with the 18" vs the 19" but maybe come outta the hole slighter faster..ie smaller diamter...effectively lowered geared??? I duno...
Regardles of HP gain, will our cars have to be in 4th at some point to trap over 110 mph...
or would 20" wheels and a 6500 rpm redline get us there?>

Overall diameter of the 18" wheel with tire is the same or VERY close to the 19". The profiles are different to make up for the wheel size.:)

Hmmm , I am pretty sure I bounced off the limiter right at the quarter...only doing 101....
What do I need to do to trap 105mph plus? Do our cars need to hit 4th to get higher trap speed? Or maybe I passed the quarter and only hit 101 mph but wasnt redlining until slighter higher speed....does anyone know the top speed in 3rd gear with the 18s?

I have tested crossing the traps in 4th and no matter what I do , it is slower than revving out 3rd gear past it's powerband everytime . Right now if I cross in 4th I trap 1 mph slower and run 2 tenths slower . I too have the 18 inch wheels . It kind of sucks for track times because I am getting the American Racing header system in about a week , and I know I am going to make much more power , but I will probably have to use the 3-4 shift in the 1/4 mile now which will slow me down , so even though the car will be much faster , I am going to have to add another shift in the time of going down the track and then cross the traps close to peak torque instead of peak horsepower which is not optimal for the best track times . Just some little quirks with how the 6speed auto and stock rear differential ratio is geared for the G8GT when you drag race it .

My Ve SS ran a best of 13.4 @ 106 in stock trim , untuned on 18" rubber full weight on a very hot day. Track temp was over 120*f

We have had 2 unopend M6 ones run 11's here in Australia. They were on DR's of course and had all the available bolt ons.

A Sydney workshop got their wifes Caprice which is a bit heavier than the G8 but has the same driveline and platform down the strip in 12.94 @ 108 mph with a SD tune and OTR intake.

Mike do you think by any chance the motor can handle more rpms? An Aussie with an SS V said he hit 6700 rpm and trapped like 117mph? Thats HElla Fast... If only 3rd gear was SLIGhtly taller....to pull a few more mph..It seems at some point with more power it will have to rev quicker/fast down the track..than have a fast 3/4 shift to get a higher mph...(powerbond pulley seems like a good mod) ...I have heard of rear end gear swaps...would 3.73s.. be a good compromise to rev the motor quicker...and get you into 4th well before..the end of the 1/4? Or can the gears be switched out in the tranny for closer ratios. in the first 1-5 gears? A modded A6 would be awesome...I definetly think the A6 couldve had closer ratios.and this wouldve been a 13.0 flat car...ive always believed theres something in the gearing.... Shouldve had a slighter less agressive 1st gear, ...and closer ratios all throughout....and then in back at least a 3.23 stock with 3.55 option..

I definitely think the motor can handle more rpms , but the power just drops up there with the stock cam . And with an aftermarket cam , you will for sure need the 4th gear shift even sooner with the stock tire size . The thing to do would be put a taller tire on the back , this will allow it to stay in 3rd gear longer at the track and run better times . I have a pretty fast 3-4 shift right now , it is still time to shift though , even it it is 3-4 tenths in the shift . I would not do 3.73's at this point , just my opinion , stick with what you got .

I like the taller tire idea....guess I will have to look for the right spare wheels and tire size combo.go with DR tires. If theres any opinions out there on this.would love to hear more...Any idea on how much taller we could go stock for just drag duty?
I wonder how much MPH we could get on the top end in 3rd..

I managed the 13.5 without a intake/tune. It was about 62ish degrees outside. [I still got sunburned. :(] I nearly shat myself when I got my timeslip.
