Just at dealer making apt for my sick baby, and they pulled a GP GXP out, just washed to give back to customer. What a sweet sounding exhaust. Nice rumble, much better than our G8's. Obviously I don't know what it sounds like on the highway and I know it doesn't have AFM. But, that's what I want my G8 to sound like. Nice V8 burble...
Wonder what the difference is to ours?

GP GXP does have AFM. The difference in sound is purely what the exhaust engineers had as a target. For the GP GXP, it was a mid-80's IROC Z Camaro. I think they were pretty close.
I am guessing they were trying to be a little more "sophisticated" with the G8 and only have the exhaust noticeable at WOT. I guess the assumption is that those that wanted more of an exhaust note will go to an aftermarket catback.

Interesting. I had a 86 Iroc 5.0 and a 90 5.7. Loved those cars.
I loved the sound of those cars too. That was a whole nother life ago.
Yea, I know, I'm really afraid of going too much. I think I'd like the new Magnaflow version 70%. :driving:
I wanta little burble at idle and low speeds, and some sound when I jump on it. And no AFM drone of course.
Wonder what all parts they used for the GXP?
Anyone out there have one? What's it like on the road?

Well, the resonator and mufflers are unique to the GP GXP if that is what you are asking.
I have one, GP GXP that is. On the road, it is fairly quiet with no resonance. You can downshift at low speeds and get that nice burble. The exhaust note is more noticeable from the outside than the inside if the windows and sunroof are closed. It sounds really good on mountain runs especially with the windows down.

The GP GXP sounds great when starting up. I still love the sound of mine as I approach with the remote start! On the road, it's fairly quiet and subdued in the car unless you fold the rear seats down. Then you get more exhaust note into the cabin. Outside is where it sounds good though.
Oh, and mine was an early one with DOD! (FWIW, I know it was only a name change, kidding here).
