As far as i can see nobody has built or is working on a torque converter for these cars yet.

What gives.???

I might have to figure something out.

Thanks

How is the 6L80E holding up to the boost?

So far so good.

Not sure if its comin out of the tranny (pretty sure it is) but when its cold out and the car hooks a good 1-2 it lets out a pretty nice sound (kind of quick screech).

If any one is gona break this car we will prolly do it first.
Once we have a fuel system in her, the wheels are gona start rolling real quick. 500rwhp is gona be with our eyes closed. I'm thinkin of getting her around 580rwhp so that car #580 can have 580.

Thanks

I think Yank has 6L-series converters. I could've swore I saw some on there. http://www.converter.cc/corvette/c6/

BTW, these are great converters. I have their Super Stock (SS) 3800 - 2.55 STR, and between shifts at the track, at WOT, the shift extension doesn't drop the RPMs below 5300-5400 and pulls like mad. With manifolds, lid, tranny tune, MT DRs, and 3.23s and full weight (almost 3900 lbs. with me) I can pull 1.6X 60'. No, I don't have a G8, but wanted to offer an idea of how sweet these converters are :)

Yank makes a quality product. Had a SY3500 in my last car and loved it. I put 70000 miles on it without any problems.

Anyone know what the stock stall is? Seems to be about 1600. Just wondering.

Lingenfelter has one for the vette that is 200-300 rpm higher stall and 40mm smaller in diameter. They are working on a higher stall version at this time. The one they have should be enough for all the non power adder bolt-ons. Charlie

Whats different on them than on the G8 ??? Bolt pattern on the flywheel ???

Any dealer or parts guy out there that can pull up the specs on a C6 verter and a G8 verter and can give us the low down, please chime in...

We need a test mule for a Yank but personally I'd go w/ a PI Vig...I know they stand behind their product better if history and memory serves me correctly...

Sounds like an aftermarket torque converter will really help out 60' times at the track.

The Yank Performance Converter website is cool.

I run a Yank 3k on my SS and was more than pleased with the results. The only thing is that they are known to be a little tight (my 3k stalls to about 2600 at the most). You will notice a huge difference (probably about .5 off ET's) with a new converter, depending on which size you go with.

I have a circle D converter sitting in the trunk of my car here now and we will be fitting it on wednesday ..... so fingers crossed it fits properly. My concern is if it will bolt up to the VE/G8 flexplate and as I havn't see a flexplate for one of these yet I don't know.

I will pass on the results here if it works out.

You are correct. Their web site has been updated last week with that info and the higher stall version is now listed.

Ok guys, please don't beat me up too bad on this..I'm new to Automatics, my previous cars were mustangs with 5 speed manuals. What exactly does a torque converter do? What is the stall speeds about? Let the bashing begin!:embarrassed:

Thanks for the link...it definetly gave me an idea what a Yank converter can do...I saw the application for the A6 on the vette,,,didnt see anything if it would or wouldnt work on the G8s...After my meeting on Monday I am going to call them and see if they have an application or working on one...This seems like a VERY cost effective mod....I am looking the base one thats like 2600 stall...drops your Et .3 to .5 tenths....and still very streetable....Awesome!

No it didn't we didn't get to put it in as it wasn't going to fit without doing a custom flex plate.

We have another Circle D Stallie on the way now that will fit so fingers crossed we get a result this time.

It was the case out of a Caddy I believe apart from the bolt location we had some concern regarding the width . We could have got it to work with a new plate but as an ongoing concern for other buyers here in OZ it wasn't going to be a goer.

What warranty :) It really depends on your dealer.
Mine services my car and I have had stuff fixed under warranty but I wasn't cheeky enough to charge them for a new diff. My car has cam heads and pipes so the driveline warranty is gone but these cars have a very good driveline in them anyway.
I just had a cam sensor replaced under warranty without any problems at all.
My car is also going to get a new HVAC system installed in it too.

It would only effect driveline warranty. What ever is modified is whats not covered in most cases. If the modification can effect other components, then it voids them too

LOL. I do a lot of extended warranties and u can slip things by them with no issues. Its when it has to go in for factory warranty that these issues occur. Charlie

The car flys :) installed it yesterday and finished tuning the box last night and have to say it's made an improvement in acceleration.

My stall is a 2c Circle D converter that went to 3800 rpm well thats the highest we could get it to go.

I was all set to go to the track tonight, gear packed DR's in the boot etc etc and it started to rainjust before I was due to leave.:(

Just a few tips for box tuning we have set it up so I can pre select 1,2 or 3 and it won't kick back at all. It can now be launched in that gear to minimise wheelspin on the street. It still fries the tyres getting on it in 2nd gear though.
My tuner also set the higher gears so the converter locks up at light throttle and low speeds for normal driving around.
It's good having 3 different gearbox tuning patterns to choose from but time consuming getting them all right.

Used a Circle D 2c Converter they are in Houston.

Didn't get any pics I was only there for part of the job but it's pretty straight forward. If you have LT's you need to unbolt em as well as removing Cat back. You won't clear the starter motor and box won't clear the lt's when dropping it.
Apart from that Will my mechanic said it was piece of cake.
Checking atf level is a bit of an art we tried a few differnt ways and got 3 different results but went with atf at 50*c. There is a bung that is actually the level indicator so when it starts to run out it's full.

I bought 20lts of dextron VI so we could replace it as it was over 35000 old and had done nearly 60 passes. Found a small amount of metal on the magnet in the pan but not much.

So far havn't got a trans cooler as the stock one in the radiator works very well but will keep an eye on box temps if it needs one it will get it.
