: Howdie. Nebie on this board
SVonhof 06-03-2010, 08:41 AM I have been around other forums for years (AVS Forum, GolfDiscussions, BARF, Pashnit, F150, PartyofFore.....). Am trying to pull the trigger on a G8 GT and have my wife ready to cave in on it. She isn't fully against it, but likes a few other cars better. She wants me to be happy though as this won't be her car. I have always loved the G8 looks since it came out and have been intrigued by the GTO's before that.
I may be picking one up this weekend, we shall see. A dealer a few hours away has 3 of them listed on their site as being new (one says new but has 3k miles on it). They were asking $5k over list price, which is probably why they still have 3 of them. I am going to try to work a deal that we are both happy with so I can get my stryker blue G8 GT.
300King 06-03-2010, 08:52 AM Welcome to the board and good luck on your negotiation. You will find the board to be very helpful for anything G8 related.
SVonhof 06-03-2010, 08:54 AM Yeah, that's what I love about all the forums out there, people are very helpful.
Now, I need to get enough posts to be able to find out if everyone thinks it's a good deal (requires 40 posts to be able to create a new thread in there).
Rich-n-Texas 06-03-2010, 08:57 AM Welcome SVonhof! Good luck with your purchase. You'll love the GT and I think you'll find this site most helpful. Enjoy your stay.
SVonhof 06-03-2010, 08:59 AM Thanks!
I have to say, your pic in your sig would be slightly better if the Firebird was replaced with a Corvette of the same color! Or maybe a larger garage with the three of them?

I have not been on there in a while as it was just too hard to keep up with everything!
Here is what I built after being on there for a few years:

Sad to say my Firebird will soon be sold. Need the money to keep my poor DLP TV running. :( ;)
Yeah I was checking out your homepage earlier. Very nice HT setup you've got there.

How much is the replacement bulb for your DLP? My first projector's bulb needed to be replaced and it was $450, so I sold the projector on Ebay for $650 (saved the $450) and bought a new projector that was $1800 and had a brand new bulb in it and performs better, puts out less heat and is much quieter at the same time. Very good choice for me. Unfortunately, I went into the theater the other night to watch a movie and found that the last time I used it, the macro on the remote didn't turn off the projector, so it had been running for about 10 days straight... Went from about 500 hours to 750+ that quickly. :(
Rich-n-Texas 06-03-2010, 10:12 AM Well, I purchased a lamp from DLP LampSource last July for $139 second day shipped. It went out a couple of weeks ago and I think it was because there was a buildup of dust on the vent that's part of the lamp housing. DLP LampSource offers a one year guarantee on their lamps (Osram is the maker of the lamp) and one free replacement if it dies early. I installed the replacement yesterday and everything seems okay at this point from a brightness standpoint but now I've got some serious PQ issues. There may need to be an ISF cal done because I'm not at all happy with the picture.
Tough beak on your remote macro fail. I see from your post that projector lamps ain't cheap!
SVonhof 06-03-2010, 10:14 AM From what I understand, the new lamp is much less, more like $200 instead of the $450 for the old lamp.
Glad to hear you got a new lamp under warranty basically. That makes it easier to handle, but the image quality issue sucks. Do you think it has anything to do with the new lamp or something else? Did you clean the inside of your TV at all while doing the swap?
Rich-n-Texas 06-03-2010, 10:50 AM I used my vacuum cleaner and a crevice tool to suck out the dust while I was waiting for the new lamp. There's a well written tutorial over on the AVS forum that shows how to clean the light engine, so I may try that. The thing is, after about an hour of the TV being on, the PQ improves but I still notice cases of washed out colors and out of focus background images. Also, when I turned on the TV for the first time with the new lamp, my living room filled with an odor that was coming out the vent of the TV. I have to believe the odor was coming from something on the lamp lens, but I used gloves and handled the lamp very carefully while I was installing it into its housing, so I'm 100% certain I didn't cause that issue. I think next I'm going to try a factory reset after I write down some of the TV's settings. :dunno:
SVonhof 06-03-2010, 10:52 AM I wonder if the bulb had been installed before? Maybe installed by some novice and then pulled shortly after? Or maybe the odor was something that was stuck to the bulb that you didn't notice before installing it?
Rich-n-Texas 06-03-2010, 11:00 AM Don't know but I have a feeling this bulb won't last long either. Up until this recent lamp issue, I've been very happy with my Mits 57", but in hindsight, a Plasma would've been a better choice IMO. Just too damn expensive at the time I purchased this one (2007)
SVonhof 06-03-2010, 11:31 AM Hindsight is 20-20.
Sorry to hear about all this as you may be looking for a new TV sooner-than-later.
